Joy Machine S1 Ep4: Cowboy Camping, Motorcycle Break Down, a New Friend

- Welcome to Joy Machine, a motorcycle adventure show about camping and enjoying nature on two wheels. In this episode, Calen and Nika's plan to explore the ghost towns of northern Washington is "kiboshed" when their motorcycle has an unexpected break down that leaves them stranded on a lonely back road. However, the road was not as lonely as they thought and before long they were back on the road headed towards their campsite where they would sleep under the stars with only blankets and each other for comfort.

Some highlights for me: Nika showed us the planned route on a map, Calen’s morning walk while Nika sleeps, and dropping campground fee into the old rusty box slot. And of course, the abandoned house. Nice, helpful man reminds us there are good people everywhere.

I've always heard that if a bird crapped on you it was good luck......well I guess that went out the window with the bike and all. Glad you got it fixed. Love hereing the loons.With the fuel prices the way they are, we are parking the truck and fithwheel and getting the bikes out. We are gearing to head south to Big Bend Texas in November and then along the coast down to the Keys. Safe travels. 🐕🙋🙋♀️

@@joymachinetheshow Hello Calen, actually I meant Waschington state where you were touring , is als great. The US scenery is great over there plus of course Idaho and Wyoming. All are on my list . Last time I was in the US i visited Arizona, Texas and California.. Cheers from the Netherlands..
@@timschouten4671 Hey Tim, I have heard great things about Wyoming, it is on my list as well, same with Arizona, Texas and New Mexico. That being said, the Netherlands and other parts of Europe are also on my list. I have never been. I have wondered about renting a Triumph or something over there and touring a bit. I would like to advise you to rent a bigger touring bike like the one you have or a road king or even a BMw All good for two up riding…

I just started watching your channel again today. I appreciate your spartan style. Anyways, I live in Western Washington and ride an Electraglide. I love my big fat seat and bags...lol...but I just love your bike! I've been to a lot of these same places you've shown us here...but it's funny so many I've never seen before. I have seen that ferry on the map but never taken it. And Govan? Wth? Who'd have known that was just off the highway. This trip musta been early in the summer it's so green...great videos you guys. So glad that suspension popped back into place...❤❤❤
Oh awesome - yeah WA has so many beautiful spots for biking and camping! North of the ferry was a really beautiful ride, lush forest and beautiful landscapes. Thanks for watching and for the nice comment!

Sure is a beauty, agreed! Ya we thought we'd bring a paper map just in case no service and lone behold it did come in handy once er twice. I will post an update on it on their shortly. The new HD progressive shocks are installed and feel nice n stiff!

Thanks for showing me where my next ride will be! I was thinking of heading to Montana in August, but I'm not sure I'm up for it and this looks perfect. Plus, it's a part of the state I've never seen. I was literally filming my screen with my phone to capture some of the map shots. I'd love to know the name of that campsite if you happen to remember it. Glad your bike got figured out, but those issues generally result in the best stories, right. It's amazing how helpful total strangers are when you're on a motorcycle. I think if everyone rode a bike the world would be a better place. Ride on. 🤙
Hey thanks for the awesome comments! I am really glad you found some of it helpful. The campground is called Beaver Lake campground, it's on Chesaw road. So much to see up there, we can't wait to go back to that area again. There are supposedly some cool ghost towns in that area too, one called Bodie for example, we just didn't get to it because of the breakdown. Montana sounds amazing too, have a blast with wherever you choose. I agree with everything you said, you meet the nicest people on a motorcycle for sure. Cheers.
I really enjoy your channel. I am from British Columbia Canada. Been on all the roads your showing, if you ever have a chance go to Troy Montana and you can camp right at the bar for free it’s a old biker bar . You won’t regret it

Great video. Breakdowns, while not always fun, make for awesome stories. What happened with your shocks? Were they just totally worn out?
Completely agree! Yes just worn out I suppose, so I took them out the other day and installed HD progressive springs. I will be giving those a good test shortly.

2:06 Oh yea! Two OLD NON-ELECTRONIC BIKES. I can picture it now!!!! ....What if one was an old airhead BMW, EVEN? Can get 80's airheads pretty reasonable, and they are all great bikes, with a low center of gravity...it's what makes them great scramblers.
I like those BMWs and they do seem capable.
@@joymachinetheshow Check out the R75/5's and up. I see them going for a couple grand sometimes, still running fine. I'd like an R85/5. When I find the right one, I'm buying it.

Can you share more about your motorcycle? Was it a family members? How did you get into motorcycling?
Yes, good idea, I will share more in one of the videos sometime, but the motorcycle is a 1999 Harley Davidson, FLSTC (softail classic, evo motor). I bought it used off craigslist after moving to the states. I got into motorcycling because my brother (a big engine mechanic) was into it, so it was a way to connect with him mostly, then I grew to love it myself.
@@joymachinetheshow That's awesome, I can see it's not all original, and some customization has been done, all good, just saying, alot of character. Its a 1999 FLSTC, evo motor, and the pipes came with the bike and don't have an identifier. Thanks alot!
What year is your Harley? How many cc. How many miles can 1 liter of petrol drive?
it is a 1999 FLSTC, 1350 evo. Gets between 40-50 miles per gallon I think.
