I’ve heard a 50/50 on whether Monk straps (double strap) are formal. Tom Ford says they are formal but some people say they are not and you should stick to oxfords only. Depends on the event but I think Black Monkstraps are definitely formal looking to me and can be worn at interviews, meetings, formal events etc
Hey Antonio, I am Dinesh who asked the question. Thanks a lot this video has helped me a lot and even your previous videos have also inspired me. Love you Antonio❤️.
Great share Antonio. I was also thinking the length of your trousers is important too. Chelsea boots with high cut trousers won't work imo (the high cut is designed for a sockless look, normally with loafers)
Great video. Thank-you. My concern with wearing a boot with a suit is the lighter weight fabric (fit, fabric & function;) of the trousers could possibly get ‘hung up’ on the top of the boot or its tab at the rear and you wouldn’t feel it or be aware and it could ruin your style. Jeans or chino are heavier material and there is less of a risk of this happening. So my concern is the suit fabric over concerns about the actual boot. I find a boot with a chino is great, it upgrades the outfit and are a great addition to my wardrobe. Keep up these informative videos please sir, your work is greatly appreciated.
I actually wear black dress boots with my suits (midnight blue and charcoal). They are all leather (no elastic cloth in the center) and not as tall as the Chelsea. I like the look, and nobody has complained...yet. Blue suit...go with the Oxblood.
Here's some James Bond nerd knowledge: Bond wears black leather chukka boots with his light grey sharkskin suit during the pre-title sequence of Skyfall and a black leather cap-toe double buckle boot with his black three piece herringbone suit in Spectre during the funeral and meeting scenes in Rome. The boot models are the Crockett & Jones Tetbury and Camberley respectively. Also on an unrelated note, I'm in the US Navy and wear a black steel-toe chelsea boot from Redwings with my coveralls. Nothing quite like rolling out of your rack at some odd hour and being ready for watch in 2 minutes thanks to their slip-on nature... more time to snooze.
I have worn a pair of black Chelsea boots with a black suit for years. It’s a very clean look when polished . I have a zipper on the inside instead of the stretch fabric.
John Steed wore Chelsea boots with every outfit. He had several different colors. If it was good enough for the partner of Emma Peel, then it is good enough for me.
Absolutely! For example, Just look at the Maestro Tom Ford! Tom Ford wears his signature black Chelsea boots, with his black suit ad crisp white shirt!
I used to be quite strict on the rules when it came to suites, especially when I attended a school that had a very iron-fist policy on uniform. for example black oxfords only, white dress shirt, blue conservative tie and match the belt and watch strap with the shoes. The last time I wore a suit (I have a made to measure grey two piece suit from Jasper Littman) I wore a matching grey merino wool thin crew neck sweater with no shirt, no belt, Tan leather brogue boots (a very chunky pair of Loake Bedale's) and a silver steel watch. It felt good to break the rules, i'd defo do it again with a pair of Chelsea Boots.
I came to this video hoping for some insight in Jodhpurs…your mention of the monk straps helped, because I think it can be extrapolated. I’m thinking of doing oxblood jodhpurs with a dark green suit for a wedding (as a guest, but family so I’ll probably be in some pictures) and wondered about the clashing formality…I think I feel a bit better about it!
I got my first pair of Chelsea’s today. Thanks to you. I picked up a dark brown one from Johnson and Murphy. I went over my budget. But I’m glad I got this pair!! These are Italian made and they would last forever! They would go awesome with a dark blue or dark green suit and tie. Thanks for everything you do!!
Great video and interesting question. To me, it just looks off...dress shoes only for me with a suit. Chelsea’s are too casual, even without a tie. And...free sample won’t ship to Canada?
In fact "Chelsea boots" were originally referred to as 1/4 Wellingtons and have been worn as dress boots by British and Commonwealth officers for at least a century. One of the reasons was that they could be worn with spurs as well as looking quite spiffy with the very narrow cut, cavalry trousers. The question should be, "why wouldn't you wear 1/4 Wellingtons with a suit" ? Police departments and many branches of the military still issue these boots for formal wear and mess dress. Chelsea boots inherited their name from their popularity in Chelsea, an affluent and trendy area of London, during the fifties and sixties, particularly on the 'mod' scene. Also referred to as "Beatle boots".
Also the boots you display in the end - at first I thought “nah too casual for suit” but then I realized with a navy suit it would be a bold statement and I’d definitely rock those along with a matching leather belt
The double monk boots are are a little too casual for a suit look, especially with the broguing on it. But it isn't just the broguing, it's that monk straps and boots are a strange combination. It is eye catching, but not really in the right way: it comes off too forced, too unique without being properly unique.
Hello! Antonio have been following for a considerable period of time. Really very practical videos; something which could be incorporated with style. I got my first pair of black Chelsea boots today. 😊
The actor in the Vitaman promotion video, raised his hand, put the deo next to his armpit, didn't spray anything because the first spray usually doesn't have any liquid, his armpit spat out bad smells, that he smelled when he sniffed the deo, which is why he closed his eyes.....(watching this literally before sleeping). Nice video RMRS!!
Not to be taken too seriously I wear my Converse Chuck Taylor canvas white high tops with my tux. Great for dancing and quick get always from the usual black tie optional find raiser. Women attendees are jealous of my foot comfort.
Great video Antonio! I will go out on a limb and say that certain chukka books can also be used with a suit or with slacks but same rules apply. What do you think Antonio?
I'd advise anyone who wants to wear a pair of Chelsea's wit' a suit to to check out the Carmina brand. 'Not doughtin' what he's sayin', but they look smooth. Even the light tan I think could be worn wit' a navy suit.
I might not be to savvy on dress codes but, wouldn't a pair of chukka boots look better most look causal and dressy my opinion Chelsea boots would be more like wearing blazers, jeans like you said casual Like I said my opinion correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not a fashionis but heck when I dress up I do like to look good and that's why I take the time to listen and educate myself from you.👍
Can we dress up a black suede chelsea boots with a 2 piece suit? Sir u didn't mention black suede thats why... I'm pretty confident I'd pull this off but is it correct?
Antonio I really enjoy watching your videos. Your content has a lot of useful information and is entertaining. You are pushing Vitaman very hard though and I think it is getting to be to be too much. You can't watch one of your videos without you pushing it. Vitaman in a video about chelsea boots with a suit? come on man. Why don't you pay others to push it for you like Alpha M does with his products. You have given a lot of advice. I hope you take this one.
I also have a question, what color shoes would be best for a suit in dark, charcoal grey with a really subtle red check? Black are an obvious choice, but what about brown or maybe even burgundy, would they work as well?
@@RealMenRealStyle thank you very much. how wide should my tie be, I like wearing wide lapels as I have broad shoulders is it acceptable with my normal width tie - Danish
Hey Antonio! Just stumbled upon this channel and first of all, great video! Second, I’m a junior in highschool who wants to wear an almost red/burgundy tuxedo to prom this year and I was wondering if it would look good with Chelsea boots because I’ve been wanting a pair for a while now and I figured it would be a good excuse to convince myself to do it. I picture myself with a burgundy blazer, a black undershirt and a white bow tie with just some plain black pants on the bottom, would you say I could wear Chelsea boots or should I just stay with oxfords? Thanks!
Could you make a video of the best Chelsea boots on the market? I’m looking for a black leather sleeker pair that I can dress up or down. Any recommendations. Price point isn’t necessarily an issue.
I am yet to buy a Chelsea boot 😭. Just asking, is the occasion with semi-formal, business casual or smart casual suit ? Then double monkstrap also works❤️. Please correct me , if I am wrong
If we're talking about the traditional Semi-Formal dress code, stroller suit/tuxedo. If by semi-formal we only mean kind of dressed up (no strict dress code), either business casual or smart casual should do the job; along with a good pair of double monkstrap :)
Totally have this. Looks sloppy. Can still put them back over but sometimes fuck it
In Australia, wearing chelsea boots (Black RM Williams boots) with a 2-3 piece suit is very common and widely accepted in most circles.
great at least I do not have to buy normal shoes with ties
like the feel and height with a suit and once creased in on side of boot they give comfort. cover socks well also
Very true!
If John, Paul, George and Ringo can do pull it off.... so can you! 🎙🎸🎸🎸🥁
