Amazing video...I learn so much....thank you for taking the time to share with all of us....it really means alot to all of us that have not left the house since February 28th....
I love these little silks! How sweet! I really like research, too, and the information you uncovered about Charlotte was priceless!! And Ray popping in! ❤️ Cheerio!!
Wonderful video. I wonder how many unfinished pieces will be found hundred years from now lol. Your research on your pieces is fabulous. You should do a home wall tour. Thanks for sharing.
Nicola, I am so with you on the research and going down the rabbit hole on the samplers. That is what draws me to your beautiful reproductions of samplers. The amount of history helps to get into the time the girls stitched. Of course one needs to be careful not to spend all evening reading about the time and lose out on some stitching time. Looking into my family history I also try to keep a eye out for samplers with the name Davies’ on them. So far I have had limited luck but it’s a rabbit hole to just look at samplers. The girls were so talented and it is something that is important not to lose in this digital age. Wishing you good health!
Thank you so much Nicola for sharing your beautiful silk embroideries with us. I particularly love the combination of drawing and stitch and find the unfinished state really attractive. Lovely cameo appearance of your husband Ray but where was Bertie Boo? Well done with the walking and how lovely to have the added bonus of weight loss! We too are worried by the increase in numbers coming here to our island not because we don't welcome visitors, goodness knows some must be desperate for fresh air and a change of scene if they live in flats, for example, but because no-one is able to control the volume of traffic and people. Let's hope everyone stays safe and well. Happy stitching, Teresa 🐾🧵💕
How great to see you again. So sorry about the frogging incident. I too have been doing my fair share recently. I sometimes find it hard to concentrate during these uncertain times.
Thank you for the history lesson but thank you for sharing how you had to pick 3 days of stitching one evening. I feel like I’m the only one having to frog and I’m a perfectionist so I can’t just leave it.
So many tiny things to be aware of when looking at old samplers. Now, those round and oval works might be considered mixed media. To know the lineage of a piece and how it has moved forward with time is absolutely fascinating So much seems to be touched by sadness. Orphan girls with bed numbers instead of surnames and such a true friend that would give up a chance of happiness with her own family to faithfully serve her queen. Stay well and stitch on!
Loved the silk embroideries and the history behind the Charlotte one. I thought the round one was my favourite of the two! At the start of this video you mentioned about backing and stretching of your samplers. Is there any chance you could do a video on this because I am new to doing samplers and would like more information about how I should finish them off etc. Have a wonderful weekend and well done on the weight loss too. Nicola, I have just come across an earlier video where you show one you have already laced.
Nicola, could the border been covered (by a mat)? Looking at the work, when you are holding it up - on my tv - the background colour of the piece differs from the background of the border. As it could have been less exposed to light. Just a thought I wanted to share with you. Enjoying your flosstube as always, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
Just bought Old Scot. Your directions are so competent which will guide me into new stitch territory. Thank you for all you do. I would like to use silk for the first time. Is it worth it?
Tks for sharing that interesting story about Charlotte. I'm in love with Jane Haeth Sampler, looking forward to that release. Take care, stay safe, and Happy Stitching. Xoxo. Miriam

Oh, how I loved hearing Charlotte’s story. Thank you for sharing it. Take care.
I like the colors in Jane’s very top flower. It looks like stained glass.

What a find! I had a chatty Charlotte in my family and that made me smile.
Wonderful story about Charlotte, loved seeing your Husband.

If you can use silk.

What fabric is this stitched on? It looks like it is a really loose weave.
The model is being stitched on 52/60ct.
Nicola Parkman I meant the original fabric. It looks thin and a loose weave. Or is that an illusion with the camera?
It is Penelope canvas. It was used a lot in this period.
Missing you. Hope all is well. 🌸
Your blouse is beautiful
WOW!!!!’💕💕
