Nicola you always have such important and interesting information regarding Samplers. That you share your expertise so generously with us, is very much appreciated- thank you. May Berties surgery, and the administration of anesthesia, be very successful, and the outcome provide him with many years of good health ahead.
I love the perspective you offer on why we should put our own names and/or years on reproduction samplers we stitch. Thanks for that information, Nicola.
Such an interesting flosstube, thank you. Bertie will be in my thoughts on Wednesday. I know how worrying anesthesia for dogs can be, we were told our dog could never even have undergone it because he carried the Leishmania virus, goes to show what their bodies go through and with it worrying doggy parents as well. Positive thoughts everything will be well.
Thanks…interesting about the color purple thread, question if it was also not stable with wool threads? I am thinking of needlepoint or petit pint in chair seats or the back of Victorian chairs. I will definitely say some prayers for Bertie…great book as well. Looking forward to stitching Pollie Gay and your newer projects.
Oh Nicola!!!!!! Jane Backhouse!!!!!! STUNNING!!! I absolutely LOVE those motifs AND the different stitches! I must stitch that. 🤗😍🥰 Really great video! Thank you! XOXO Heidi
Beautiful new sampler Jane is!! Prayers for Bertie wishing him well, I also go through this with my Airedale Terriers very troublesome my heart goes out to you & Ray 🙏🏻🤗🐾
With all the points you make about the sampler which was up for Auction (and many more huge clues) it is why I do NOT believe we should be instructed to put our initials and the year we stitched on our work. You only have to do a reverse image search to find out this isn't a Georgian sampler. So, when you were talking about academics driving this, in a flosstube a few months ago, it was really your belief as well.
No Justine - the point I was raising previously about academics was the use of the word reproduction. I have always promoted putting at least the year that the sampler was actually stitched visibly on the sampler. This particular sampler was easily recognised by needleworkers as many have stitched it. The auctioneers were fooled and there would have been samplers collectors who were too.
merci d'avoir insisté sur la nécessité de mettre la date et notre nom ou initiales, mais surtout la DATE sur nos reproductions, c'est tellement important
This is the link but they are now sold out. I expect that Sue will have more in the future. www.etsy.com/uk/shop/MinnieMcBeans?ref=own_favorite_shops_page

Good lucky to your Bertie boy, and prayers sent! Thank you for the tips on recognizing a stitched reproduction vs. originals.

Really interesting how you talked about the colour purple being unstable. Something to look out for on buying second hand samplers
