- You can playtest the latest alpha, follow development news, and give your gameplay suggestions by visiting the official Discord server. Everyone is welcome! discordapp.com/invite/PatchQuest
You can also follow development on Twitter. I've posted loads of bonus details there this past month: / patchquest - Ігри
Sorry about the flickering in some parts of the video! There was clearly too many animated doods for UA-cam to handle... I'll try rendering in a higher bitrate next time
this video was great. Also this type of videos are really helpful to other devs trying JUST to figure out how to do something. This one was a huge mindblower for me specifically.
Thanks again!
The video looks good both on my computer and on my phone, no worries.
I am a fulltime software developer, I have some experience in gaming industry and I am fascinated about the well designed systems behind your code. Great work, keep it up! I can't wait to buy a copy when you release the game.
You can try the alpha in the discord server :D
Thanks Yusuf. I spent a lot of time working on some of them, but that's why I'm trying to share
As someone learning programming and very interested in game design, I'd love to see more videos like this!
You got it!
That is really awesome Liam, great system.
Player made monsters sounds like a really cool thing for modders I think. Though you'll have to watch people make monstrosities ha ha.
If spore has taught us anything...
@@LycheeGameLabs Goodness gracious...
Loving that good place reference! 😂 It's interesting seeing all your work behind the scenes
Thanks! 😁
First! Also those animations look good! Also also “I’m a gno-ome”! Also also also great video!
Yay, thank you!
you're a rockstar dude! keep it up!
can you do a video on your art process? it's beautiful!
Sure!
Yes that would be awesome!!
You seem more interested in the creation and processes than the game itself. I can sympathize.
Creating is fun :D
nice work liam! also, was that a hand reveal?
mods confirmed!
More like "mods wishlisted" haha
I appreciate your content so much and I’m very excited for Patch Quest!! I want to get into making games someday, and your videos are very informative. 😸❤️
I'd definitely like to see more of these Gamedev journals! Really informative.
This is really awesome! Im a Unity developer myself and freelancer for game dev, so I build a lot of systems, but this one is actually very clever! Thanks for sharing this technique, I also looked at some of your other vids, that also seem to be very useful stuff, and very inspiring, especially the AI one - keep it up!
That's so cool! :o
I like seeing developers make their own tools in order to improve the workflow.
Thanks Tantan :D
hey this is really cool! smart solution and I really enjoy the way you explained!
would be awesome to see more videos like this!
This is such a useful video. I never thought about making a master animation. I will definitely practice what I learned from your video ! thanks
That is genius :D Thank you so much for sharing! I don't fully understand since I'm not a computer science person, but it _would_ be so awesome if this system can be used in many different settings even without Spine
The chrono trigger music takes me back(4:45)
I like the minimalistic animations.
Thanks jucom!
never seen so clearly and lucid tutorial, so great!
OMG this is amazing love your videos as always
Glad you like them!
11:49 What about Blender? There are 2D drawing and animation capabilities in it, and it's got open source code + tons of scripting options. It'd be easier (at least, as a user) to have it all inside Unity, but this could potentially work as a blender add-on. I'd be pretty surprised if it couldn't generate a JSON file.
great game design, great code, great video, i've been told that some of the great thing came from suffer, its all be good soon
Nice
this game is sick! good luck with the project!
This is very cool! Did you ever make progress on building a tools that others could use in unity? I know I’d be interested in licensing it :)
I can't thank you enough for this :)
I like your funny words magic man.
Thanks for sharing!!!
by the way there is now a skeletal animation system integrated into unity. you are probably aware by now but i was just mentioning it.
DF's going to love this game... 😁
A
I've found your process of going from a take turn rouge like to what the game is now yesterday and haven't been able to stop watching these videos!
If you need someone to edit a trailer for you I'd love to help!
I've done trailer work for games like Brother Brother, Misadventures of Melon, Spooky Game Night, and Spooky Arena.
you are really good at breaking down what you did, excellent video. Maybe I missed it but I wish you went into a little more detail of how you made the 6 legged characters work with a 2 legged spine, I cvould see making each one a right leg/ left leg but wouldnt this result in them starting on the same frame?
I had the same thought. My best guess is that an animation offset can be applied to each limb, so that they wait a half a cycle before starting, or something.
dragon roost island! youre so cool
amazing
Nice video, tks ♥
Very good video
You know I kind of wish she made a Google Drive or some thing of all of the Sprite sheets I’d love to edit a few
did you make seperate bones for the wings and extra limbs, or are those also arm and leg bones?
So... We cant download and use this for our projects?
is this just stock footage or are you actively using HTML in your project?
Stock footage haha!
Second
Same comment as the first guy
Btw love your vids
Oh wow I’m “the first guy” in your comment
Why did you reinvent skeletal animation? Does Unity not have that?
Unity does not have a built-in way of transferring animations make for one skeleton onto another
@@LycheeGameLabs is this not what the animator variants are for?
But...
What bone were you using for the tails??
There's an extra bone type called "wiggle" which is animated using a sin curve, instead of using the master animations. I can add other 'automatic' bone types too - but I didn't have time to cover this feature in the video. Wings work the same way!
@@LycheeGameLabs Oh cool! I thought wings followed the arms' animations XD
Pokémon should do this for attacks
Like an attack should do « move arm+fire particles »
Or « turn Pokemon around, move tail side to side »
That’s the thing, they didn’t separate each arm and leg and tail! They just move the whole body around. Instead of having only two attack animations, they could have the animations tied to the attack itself!
I love it so fa- (how much will it cost
lol we were all gnomed
Ooooh 'ello there me old chum!
Will it work for pixel animation
what in the crap were we seeing at 9:20?
Turn this process into a SAAS and be the first to actually make money from doing indie game dev /s
