Just finished replacing mine in my 03 350z, to put the time in prospective for most, should be about a hour and a half to 2 hours to do, having the regulator fully up definitely made it 1000% easier, the video was very well explained and well done
Thanks for the directions. I did everything you did except adding a new switch. I ended up putting the old regulator back on. I'm still not sure what fixed it, but I think it may have been dirty connectors. Oddly enough, all is working now. I appreciate the detailed instructions. Getting the final bolts back on the door handle pieces was a real pain. I put a little bit of curled paper to guide the bolts back in to the holes, as the ratchet extension alone wasn't working, and I'm still not very good at working on cars in general. Also, I didn't even have to run the reset procedure. Cars are crazy.
Glad I ran across this video! The details and description makes this such an easy job… My sons 350’s driver side stopped working and a week later the passenger side stopped, I hope it’s just the switches and not the regulators. I can’t imagine both regulators going out, but it’s a Nissan 🤣 Thanks for the video 🤙🏽
Dang, that was harder than I expected! I was just planning to change the motor, not the regulator, but it's kind of a pain in the rear to get the motor off and then everything back in with the regulator and window in place. But it worked. Thanks for the video!
My door handle flew off after I popped a tire during a drift event so I opened my door up to see if parts of my door handle fell into the door and ended up unbolting every bolt on the panel trying to get into the inside of the door and ended up unbolting the glass from the tracks while it was in the down position and couldn't figure out what I did wrong or how to fix it. I found your video and it really helped me get a better idea of how to put everything back together so I just wanted to say thank you. I now know way more than I ever wanted to know about how my doors and windows work, at least changing my motors will be super easy when it comes time.
I just replaced the passenger window motor in my Z last night. The window regulators in my Z seem to be good quality but the motors are cheap junk. There were foam inserts inside the plastic door panel which came loose when I removed the panel from the door. I reattached the foam inserts using gorilla glue. I installed a new Dorman window motor and I didn't have to execute the reset procedure on the new motor. It worked great after I installed it and tested it. I recommend that you watch several other videos before attempting this repair since the other videos cover other things like lubricating the window tracks before reinstalling the regulator.
I did not have the same problem. I had someone smash my window. It was still super useful to see how much of a pain in the ass it would be to replace myself. Turns out it's not $600 worth pain in the ass to have someone else do it. So thanks.
@@fullthrottleperformance I'm happy to see that support for 350z's are so great! I had a 2010 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V and support and mod parts we're minimal for it.
Yeah, I'm trying to put out more videos for the Z chassis and how they're put together. Because when I first started taking them apart there wasn't any real videos on how to disassemble or replace parts
Did you lube the track mechanism any? What was the bump noise when you showed it rolling up like it should? When it came to the top there was a bump/bang noise...does that happen everytime you roll it up? Only with door open?
Thanks!!! Just brought my new (old) 350Z home. The only thing I've found wrong is the passenger window. It went down and up... once... now it's a half-inch from the top and won't move. The switch just makes a little "relay-like" click... so I assmued the motor was out until I got to the end of your video - now I'm thinking maybe just the switch. Thanks again!
If you hit the left switch for the right window, and just here a click from the right door. Would that be right switch, or bad window motor? Thanks for the great video!
Good video. Gave you thumb up. Can you tell me how to test switch. Driver side goes up/down intermittently. Replacing motor only. Passenger side clicks but window will not roll down.
There may be a specific way to test the switch but I'm unaware of how to do so. But, in my experience when the switch is making a clicking sound it has been bad. But honestly, there's no way of me knowing without hearing it personally. Thanks for the support tho man! It's much appreciated
my car window wouldn't go down when I open the door. Then when I close it, it would close than the window would go down halfway. I tried using the switch and I would have to go down before I could go up. ( sometimes took a try or 2.) I am guessing that would be the motor? How do you know for sure if it is the window switch or the motor that went bad?
Hey all I am in the process of replacing, well, reinstalling my window motor because it two of the three bolts and backed out and the motor was so loose it had started skip and strip the 3/8" drive. The problem is I cannot get the motor drive to turn in order to align it to the window regulator hole. I tried turning the motor by hand and the regulator with an extension but neither budge. Should I just replace my window regulator or is there a way to align the two? Thanks in advance.
How badly is it stripped? If its pretty bad might wanna replace it, but if not you can put the wiring back to the motor and just use the button to slightly move the internal part that way you can align it
Damnit bro! I should have watched the ENTIRE video BEFORE replacing everything. I did fine until the window reset. I put everything together, then saw the window is 1/8 " down when i closed the door. Is there any reset that i can do without taking it all back apart?
I don't understand? Once the new regulator is plugged up, you can use the switch to raise the window guides, and slide the window in the top of the door.
Is their a way to tell whether it's the power switch or the regulator. When I bang on my door panel by the switch the window works. I am assuming it's a bad switch.
roger deo As far as I've seen, the window switch makes a clicking noise when it's bad. But I've never tried banging on the door panel, does it make any noise when it's not working?
Thanks for the reply, no noise at all when its not working. When it works is perfect, doesn't stop halfway or make any noise. It's the driver side. Maybe not the switch because all the other switch on the panel works except for the driver window switch. Just don't want to buy a new one $450 OEM and it be the regulator that's bad. My driver side regulator went bad on my Nissan truck, but the symptoms was classic, window stopped halfway, worked sometimes, you can force it up sometimes. then it when all the way down and won't come back up. LOL. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Your videos are really informative.
roger deo I doubt it's the switch then, probably the motor, you don't need to buy a brand new OEM one. The motors are fairly cheap, you can probably buy only the motor for around 40 on ebay.
H R unbolt the window, pull it to the top, place a 2x4 under it. And use self tap screws to hold the 2x4 up. Don't use that door until you get it fixed because you won't have the function to lower the window when the door is opened. And it won't rise when it's closed.
If your handle is already broken just pull on it and the bolt portion should snap off. Then use pliers to hold the backside and the 10mm on the other and it should come off
Full Throttle yea it was an entire process door handle was perfect but i asked my dad to see how he wanted to take it out he snapped it off we then tried pulling the bolt whilst turning it snapped the bolt in half so we had to take whole door apart and use channel locks on inside of door and back it out the rest of the way towards the window side then re thread the hole 😂
Eddie Jones is there a clicking sound coming from the passenger or driver window switch? And make sure the passenger lock button isn't on the driver window switch
Full Throttle yes. Just replaced the window motor and when pressing up on the window button, a clicking noise will come from the window switch. It does a long click for as long as I hold the button, and makes the noise no matter if I try rolling up the window from driver side switch or passenger
yeah lmao this didn’t help, the reset button on the motor doesn’t even show through the hole i’m having to get a flat head through that..... and it still isn’t working.....

See THATS the problem. You keepvreplacing the window motor instead of just addressing WHY it breaks down in the first place. Its such an easy fix and doesn't cost you a friggin DIME. The problem is the carbon brushes are held with a plastic sleeve an d the sleeve gets hummed up with the dust. Blow it out ..give it a blast of WD40. and you're done. The other underlying problem with the design is the springs that push the carbon brushes onto the motor are too weak as well. Such an easy fix, and costs nothing.
Are you talking about the internals of the motor? Because I've done that before if that's what you're talking about, and it's not always the issue, i've only taken one motor apart that's been having issues that actually had anything gummed up internally. Many of the motors are sealed fine and just have the factory grease inside
@@wasabikimchi7891 Yep one issue with these motors is because they are the same as many other Nissan Infiniti cars and those cars are usually 4 doored cars.
