Kevin Smith was one of the biggest influences on teenage me getting deeper into film. I'll admit that I don't love his entire filmography, but I always want him to succeed, and his classics still work for me. Also, extremely glad to see someone pick up Deep Cover. Went into that with no expectations and looooved it.
I guess we've entirely forgotten what a spoiler is. A spoiler is when you give out unwanted information about a narrative/plot before another person has had the chance to experience it. These videos don't have a plot, so there's nothing to spoil. Especially considering the movies they pick aren't as important as what they have to say about the movies.
Weird movie. No plot. It follows a guy on bus. They lose interest in him and start following someone else around. That’s the entire flick pretty much. They follow someone around until they cross paths with someone else then they start following them. It’s good tho. Really good
This deserved to be a lot longer. Kevin Smith is a legend. He probably has the most "nobody to somebody" career trajectory out of anyone in Hollywood in the current day besides Quentin Tarantino. Absolute inspiration for every amateur filmmaker in the world. We love you Kevin!
Slacker was a game changer for movies in the '90s, much like Nirvana was a game changer for music in that same era. The entire culture of the '90s came into fruition seemingly overnight and suddenly everything felt new and amazing. It was truly a magical time to be alive. I miss those days immensely.
For the younger generation: I was alive in the 90s and it sucked as much as every generation. You didn't miss much but beige walls, mumblecore, and like 6 bands you've definitely still heard today in a mall.

I actually picked up the copy he found this past summer and watched it again for the first time in like 20 years. This was great, Mr Smith goes to the closet.

Now that Smith has the rights to Dogma again, it should absolutely be entered into the Criterion Collection. Of any of his movies, that one deserves it the most.

I just watched Deep Cover a few weeks ago for the first time in years and forgot that the entire movie is written like a poem. Lawrence Fishburn's narration is both alluring and haunting at the same time. Jeff Goldblum is absolute fire in this movie. Such a good one.

Nick Nolte had the hardest acting job a man would ever have to do. Telling someone that THAT happened to him in his life. For a man to have to say that. And of course Nolte crushed it!! One of those movie moments I'll never forget. Like that scene in Warrior with Nolte. I think if anything is underrated it is Nick Nolte. I remember when he got famous from Rich Man Poor Man. I've watched him ever since. I saw The Deep in the theatre.
I love Dogma. And, if you've never seen Clerks 2, that whole jail scene is just such a real, stick with you, emotional working class American moment in an otherwise crazy movie.
Kevin Smith's movies and work have helped me so much. True story. I was going through a tough period once and watching his filmography got me through it. I will always be a proud Smith fan. Love ya Kevin!
As I understand it, rights were held by Weinstein, so they were tied up which is why it was free on UA-cam. But I believe I read that the situation is resolved and Dogma4K is on the table for 2025. We will see how that ends up, but that's what I could swear I read at DigitalBits a little bit ago.

It’s amazing that his own Chasing Amy is out of print through Criterion and it only got a DVD release.
It started as a Criterion laserdisc, which is why one of the first lines in the commentary is "Fuck DVD"
@ Laserdisc was so overpriced. I know that Criterion is where Criterion started, but on their website only the DVD is listed as Out Of Print.
