Historical Lounge Wear: Making an Edwardian Tea Gown

- Tea gowns were all the rage in 1901, and were the perfect, elegant solution to hosting close friends at home. They were intended to be loose and comfortable, possible to put on without the help of a ladies made, and worn without a corset. Sweatpants are great, but when your quarantine wardrobe needs an upgrade, a tea gown is the way to go.

Oh man. Oh no. I’m going to a tea house for my birthday (private reservation yay). Do I need a tea gown? No. Do I want one? ......god yes.
Truly Victorian has a great tea gown pattern. I altered it a tiny bit so the front doesn't open and made it out of sweater fabric to give it a cozy modern feel. It has the pleats in the back and a train and I get so many compliments when I wear it out of the house. I'm planning to make another one that opens so I can make a dress to go under it.
Do you happen to have the pattern number? I’ve been dreaming of making myself one

Thank you!!!
It's gorgeous... you make a simple nightgown look elegant. Anyone else scream velvet on sand or was it just me???
It was worth it 😂 it mostly shook out!
I now want to make my own tea gown just so I could have a casual historical dress that I could wear and relax in a garden while having tea and cakes
Reloaded and found this gem newly uploaded! I need a teagown....
I really wish you had a pettern for the blue one you made! Stunning!
That is some fabulous loungewear! Thanks for the tip about this being a pretty simple project, I'm still a beginner and there's not a ton of alternatives for Victorian-inspired projects where I know I'm not going to be entirely overwhelmed.
I love that you wound up wearing such a huge and dramatic train to the beach! Also, I feel like I need something like this now.
Well now a teagown is a the top of my one day to sew list! Who knows when I will start on that list as I don't have space, time, or money to make garments from scratch right now. Either way this is fantastic and I am in love with the style!
i love how it came out!! i would also love to see a soutache tutorial if that’s something you’re interested in making:)
Oh, how lucky! I actually do have a soutache tutorial. It’s just tips and tricks since I’m not an expert or anything, but it should give you everything you need to get started :)
@@thesewloartist oh perfect!!!
That really does look deliciously comfortable 😃
Omg, it turned out so pretty! I’ve actually been thinking about making a tea gown myself so this was fun to see!
I love the colour of the dress! ❤😊 And the undergown with the lace is so 💝 romantic! The end result is amazing, be careful with the candle.🕯️
This turned out BEAUTIFULLY. love the soutache btw. So ethereal and looks hella comfy
It is an absolute dream!! Very beautiful.
I am in love with your soutache technique 😍
QUEEN. YAS QUEEN. Now I have to make my own tea gown
This is so, so beautiful!! Very inspiring! I hope the sand came out of the overgown ok! 😊
Gorgeous!!
Beautiful !
This outfit is just gorgeous, I need fifty 😍
Beautiful ❤
Beautiful result. Love the shoot location! And 87 days? Meh! It's all part of the learning curve. Have fun at your event!
So pretty. Something else to add to my make list lol.
I desperately want to make a teagown!!
I wish it wasn't so difficult to find someone to make this for me! It so beautiful but beyond my current skill.
It's a shame about the black and white, it was stunning. perhaps you can save it still by making it a shorter piece.
Velvet is easier when hand stitching but a nightmare with machines... I made a cloak with green velvet and what may have only taken three hours took six... because my machine struggled and i resorted to hand stitching the rest. but that looks amazing!
I love this. I need to learn to do buttons and button holes next. Time to practice on scraps I guess.....😅
oh wow i love this whole out
fit, it definitely came together brilliantly, especially the undergown with the lace ruffles! ✨✨what kind of dress would the under one be described as? it look so classic but i can't place it
Oh like that
❤💫
This turned out so lovely. What is the name of the tape-type material you used to create the soutache trim? Thank you for another aspirational video.
I love your soutache. Does your ever use braided ribbon? I used it quite a bit on 1860-1880 pieces. Braiding ribbon is very relaxing.
Wonderful channel. It would be great if you matched the music to the historical period. Here it’a about a century out. Some Elgar would be ideal here. :)
I love this! What fabric is the undergown made of?
It’s a cotton crepe! I think I got it at Joann 🤔
I’ve been looking for a belt just like the one you were wearing in the spooky section forever!!!!! Please please where did you get yours??
It’s adapted from the waistband of McCalls 7732! It’s lined and closes with some hook and eyes in the back
How have I never seen you before??? SUBSCRIBED!
Where did you find a pattern for this?
Sorry did I miss the bit about which pattern you used for the outer tea gown? It’s so beautiful! I loved this entire thing. I really would love to make something similar but haven’t been able to find any patterns that I could use
I think it's totally fine to postpone your projects for months if you need to gain skills and knowledge to finnish them properly.
*Why are you at the beach??* l can only imagine how much sand that train is gonna catch
Why make a gown so long that drags on the floor dragging dirt, who washes them? No thanks.
Once you’ve worn a train it’s hard not to imagine them on everything.
