Steam punk shenanigan pants! 😃
I love these pants, this video and the thought of seeing Bernadette's shenaniganpants!
I would love to see shenanigan pants on your channel!!
This is the most perfect item of clothing I could ever imagine. My early 2000's middle and high school self is crying out how amazing this is, and I would wear it every single day now at 31.
Same oh my god it looks like something people here in Japan would wear to some kind of party
I’m 41…. But my high school self is feeling this too!!! I graduated high school in 1998 and my junior and senior years were literally LIVED in JNCOs!!!!
It is! I love it and I want it!
I'm 51 and I'd rock these in a heartbeat.

“I’m a whole ass woman who can just go buy fabric and make silly pants” - this is power!
I wanted to add…these are the coolest secret pants ever!!
This hit me for sure.
Huge pockets... detachable bottoms, adjustable straps... omg this is awesome! The version with just shorts gave it Kingdom Hearts vibes like Sora's outfits. This is so versatile. Overalls, suspenders, skirt, pants..... this is amazing.
Omg yes I thought this reminded me of something
the best pants to ever exist
It does have KH vibes!
I think the whole kingdom hearts vibe is why my child heart ADORES these pants 😂😭
YES i literally clicked on this video just because the thumbnail reminded my of kh. you're so right
Oh my gosh this is so cool. I love how convertible the skirt is. I am so inspired.
I want a pair.
Nice to see you here!
Same bro
But if Tripp pants cost like 100$ ,then I would definitely not be able to afford that 😅I don't have enough money lol

@@falon5117 super relatable
This
This is _incredible_
Not sure how I'm going to continuing living my life without these pants
Also, seamless sponsorship transition
Go down to a Singer sewing machine retailer or a quilting supply shop they tend to have sewing machines that are built for taking thicker Fabrics. So if you wanted to do it out of wool you would be buying the right equipment and they can help you figure out what sewing machine is best for you if you don't presently have one.
Not going to lie you should be prepared to drop between 150 To 200 dollars on a good sewing machine that's really worth it, that's going to do thicker fabric.
Best wishes happy crafting
Ik right?? I'll be thinking about those pants for a while
Stop that, that's not punny, you aren't punny, stop
Kinda sad ya can't buy em
Ohhhh boy this sends me back. I definitely owned a pair of the huge baggy pants complete with chains. What you made is waaaay cooler though.
Also oh my gosh, the skirt transforming into overalls blew my mind!
Ugh, teenage me would have thought you were SO COOL. I wanted those pants so badly!
💖
I’d wear mine casually with Hollister hoodies
I didn’t have a style I just wanted to be Amy Lee lite
Omg i love your name and avatar😂😂
Okay, these are actually MILES better than any pair of Tripp pants I've ever seen. You've constructed a impressively versatile garment that truly looks excellent in every variation! Everything looks intentional and you've perfectly blended aesthetic decoration with genuine functionality! I'm blown away :) your design could straight up make these come back!
Rachel Maksy: Secret pants
Morgen Donner: shenanigan pants
I love how the idea morphs to each person’s style.
Transformative work. That's how art and culture works.
Hrmm, perhaps I should revisit my pirate-y fighting trousers a lá Professor Elemental circa 2010.
i think bernadette banner called them “victorian secret pants”
"now im an adult who can buy fabric and make silly pants."
i will be using this as my graduation quote
i've never seen a video hit this many of the weird niche things i like at once. if i knew the first thing about sewing and clothing construction i'd want to try this myself, but i guess i'll have to settle with digging out the pair of tripp pants in my closet and drawing these on one of my characters. they're absolutely amazing, i love how modular they are even compared to typical examples of raver pants.
Look. You just made me so happy???
I never seem to be able to reconcile the two goblins that live inside of me - the historical, vintage, classical one vs the street wear punk early 2000s one - and this video alone made me realize: I don't have to choose!
Idk if I will in fact make some steam-emo-punk garments to use, but this definitely made me more confortable with embracing what I like. Which is both! Thank you so much!
You made laugh so hard with "Steam-emo Punk".
Same here, I love both Victorian style and trad goth style. So it’s really fun just to combine the two!
It's great to have more than one persona; it just makes you a more interesting person. Many years ago my co-worker used to call me a " Victorian Hippy." I rather liked that idea.

They're suspenders!

Seriously, these are SO impressive Morgan! Your creativity on this project is mind blowing 🤯
That description reminded me of the Pajelehoocho from Victorious.
She needs to develop a pattern
MORGAN I CANNOT EVEN WITH THOSE PANTS 😍😍😍 You're so creative and I just love everything about this video (and you, obvi)❤️❤️❤️
😁 You know, I'd be very curious to see your take on Secret Pants....
Oooh. 🤣 sounds like a challenge!
Didn't Bernadette Banner just do a take on a Victorian split skirt? Like in the last 4-6 weeks? Sounds like a TREND!
@@doris1826 yup. After a bunch of them finished constructing a Spencer jacket from that Hamilton pattern, CosTubers have now started a Secret Pants Society lol
@@doris1826 welcome to the rachel maksy cinematic universe :)
The overlap of people in this community that grew up with places like Hot Topic, remembered how much they spent there, and said “I can do that without the middleman.” Is staggering. 😂
Hot topic was cheap knock offs of actual fashion from first class boutiques. Why wear crummy clothes when you can make a truly quality copy?
If you think Hot Topic was legit, you need to go walk through a designer salon at Nordstrom or Saks and see the quality standards those clothes were originally made to.
I skipped ahead and combined thrift with sewing instead. Admittedly we didn't actually get a hot topic until after I'd been doing it a while. But yeah...😆
@@elizabethclaiborne6461 Not disagreeing with your sentiment, but would like to point out that the answer to your "why?" is because most teens, and in fact a very many adults, cannot afford to shop at Saks or Nordstrom, nor can they afford that quality/quantity of material and often enough don't possess the ability to produce something of that quality.
One can make the absolutely valid argument that practice makes perfect, but sometimes there are pretty valid reasons for that not happening.
@@elizabethclaiborne6461 This is such a classist take lmao I'm sorry that my poor family couldn't afford to shop at a first class boutique Elizabeth I was lucky to get one new shirt from HT each school year to go with my Walmart jeans
To me it's funny we made our own phat pants before hot topic and when hot topic was popular we developed the word "posers" 👩🏽🦳
Victorian Tripp pants were never something I thought I would see, but something I needed. I wanna make some for myself now
This speaks to every part of the high schooler in me.

I wholeheartedly agree 😌
“pockets large enough for a crime” love that
Pro tip: Always wash the zip-off part when you wash the rest of it, so that all the parts age at the same rate. Otherwise, in ten years, the parts won't match when you zip them together.
Learned that the hard way with a pair of zip jeans. Faded shorts, very pigmented legs 😭
Never would have thought of that! Great tip!
I knowwwww i did this 🥺 the "shorts" re worn and bottoms are looking new, they are all 13 + years old
Things I wished I'd known in highschool
When you got to the fact that they can also be worn as an over-all look....oh stop! What an amazingly creative project!!! You completely achieved the Victorian goes early 2000s goth! I love them! All the details & style ways...10 out of 10
honestly this vid was a subtle masterpiece. the absolute amalgamation of the two aesthetics, the versatility of the garment, possibly the smoothest sponsor transition i've ever seen... this was just impressive across the board. I also want to compliment you for including all the problem solving you did while working out the pattern. as a teacher it makes me so happy to see someone persist through a project rather than scrapping it and starting over as soon as you hit a roadblock. a lesson i hope i can pass along to my kiddos :)
"I'm a whole ass woman who can just go buy fabric and make silly pants!" is my new motto. I love how this was clearly a project that kept evolving as it went along, and that's what made the result so awesome. The suspenders are my favorite part. Oh, and of course you made it particolour :D
Oh, yeah. People are ABSOLUTELY going to use this to make their own. I've already started pricing hardware. My oldest and dearest friend will faint dead on the floor from the excitement when I present her with these. I cannot imagine a more perfect gift for her. Morgan, you're a genius.
Film it! and show us!!
Yes. We want to see it.
If they one out as nice as Morgan's will you be making them to order? Tell me now and I will start saving up
@@blacksheep6365 Shoot, I'll have to see how the first one goes. It will likely be a long process of messing up the order of how things get assembled, cursing profusely then taking it apart, dropping pins all over the floor repeatedly and constantly searching for where on earth I put down the scissors. I've learned to embrace it as "my process".
@@christiehardaway4446 that exact process is what I find so frustrating about sewing. I regret not having learned it by now, but I have other strengths :)
This is the most AMAZING piece of clothing I have ever seen in my life. I lived in those pants in highschool ,I've been playing with the idea of making myself historical clothing.
And just like that, EVERYONE makes a historical bounding Tripp pants, and there will be peace 😉🥰
I was planning a steamPUNK costume based off of Bernadette's secret pants. Tripp NYC inspired split skirt pants. I was so excited to see this!
Im thinking of taking my old pairs of tripps and seeing if they could be side panels.
Literally this could create a trend
@Elani Arkady if you have more than one pair I’d think you would be able to reassemble them into a similar pair of shenanigan pants
And I can't wait to kick back and watch all of the videos once they're made!
I'm a large, Santa-shaped man, and I would LOVE to have that in my wardrobe, skirt front and all!
That's a really sharp outfit and looks amazing no matter how you wear it!
Lots of work to sew my own, but I'm seriously thinking about it!

I was not expecting to enjoy punk-historicore, but here I am loving the heck out of this whole ensemble!!!
Oh my goodness! The amount of thought, preplanning, and creativity that went into this is insane! Super impressed by how the center front moves up to the bib and the bottom of it is the perfect length still for shorts mode! Brilliant!
That slightly blew my mind. In fact it might be my favourite mode for the shenanigans pants. Though I'm also super impressed by the drawstring bottoms.

Morgan out here like “this needs to be cuter let’s add some SPIKES” I love it
As someone who only ever dresses either in punk style or in old fashioned Victorian over the top outfits, I have never wanted anything more than this
This is, no exaggeration, the coolest garment-making video I have ever watched. During the more explain-y bits I kept zoning out a little bit (my fault, not yours) and then suddenly being hit with a wave of "oh wait no these are sick!" The final piece is absolutely mindblowing!
I...I still think those TRIPP-style "bondage" pants are cool. 20 years ago, my local thrift store got a pair in & didn't even put them on the floor, they just kept them at the counter until I came in & handed them to me, saying, "these look like something you'd like, so we saved them for you" & then we all had a hearty laugh because they were right. Best part - the calf-to-ankle portion had zippers down the side seam & when opened, the pants got even WIDER in the leg with a panel of leopard print now exposed. I adored those pants, and I even still have them. Fashion trends going the way they are, it's looking like they'll be in fashion just as my daughter will be able to wear them! 😄 Anyway, I only got 1 minute in before I needed to comment this, so now off to watch the rest!
That is so precious of them!
Yeeeesssss this is how it was done! I had a pair with the zipper that made them bigger and they were soooo low rise that... when I got pregnant with my son who is now 17... I could still wear them under my baby belly 🤪
i have seen them coming back into stock at hot topic, and the Tripp NYC website looks like all that early 00s fashion may be coming back
Wear something with enough confidence and you become the fashion trend. I need a pair myself
Saving "My little goth heart has grownup and I've become a Whole Ass Woman who can just go buy fabric" as inspiration because... mood.

You can't patent an idea that you didn't originally come up with in the first place. Also, I'm fairly certain I don't need anyone pointing out that the 90s is making a come back, again. Just realised that these pants make me think of the cargo ones from Kim Possible and now I want to see a Kim Possible cosplay but Victorian style with secret pants
Ooooo I second this! Pretty please!!!
Yes!
I was just checking to see if anyone else saw what I saw.
Oh gosh, yes yes yes.
The Dropped Suspenders style always looked cool, it adds to the visual complexity.
This False-Skirt Pants/Overall combo is Jaw-Dropping, I legit melted on seeing this the first time.
Me: *sipping coffee and thoroughly enjoying video*
My 5 year old after seeing all the pockets and stash potential: Oh my gosh, I want them!!
Me: *visibly sweating*
May I suggest making the back pleat fairly deep and being prepared to replace the waistband and the zip-off legs with longer counterparts as the child grows? Because it would be a tragedy to make them only to have the child outgrow them almost immediately.
My fellow Morgan fans have the best ideas...aka my 9 yo daughter wants a pair too.
I loved watching Morgan weigh her wool pants after adding nearly 3 pounds of straps, buckles, d-rings and zippers!
Morgan Donner, you have created magic. Something absolutely freaking magical. How were we not all wearing this in high school already. Seriously. Like we're all now obsessed.
The perfect mashup of 2000s punk/goth with secret pants and quarantine "I need to be presentable for something but I'm going to be as cozy as possible while doing it."
This might become the biggest trend since everyone started making Victorian walking skirts and chemise a la reines.
They kind of remind me of the culottes that my aunts and gran wore in the early to mid 80's when I was little. I used to think they were the coolest skirts I had ever seen because you didn't have to sit "like a little lady" lol
I used to have a pair of trousers just like that in my teens, I'm pretty sure they're still hidden away in storage somewhere. I couldn't bear to get rid of such peak emo goth awesomeness, despite the fact that they stopped fitting over a decade ago. I now have a burning desire to dig them out and frankenstein them into a victorian skirt. What can I say, your videos always inspire me! :-D
Do it!!!!!!
That would be amazing, you totally should!!!
Do it, do it!!
Do as your heart tells. The bonus of goth/punk wear is that the DIY vibe makes it absolutely okay to add a piece to enlarge unfitting parts :p
It's upcycling, I say go for it. Bonus points if you find other stuff in your stash that is equally old and use that too in your alterations.
This thing you've done is the absolute bomb! I want these and I'll be seventy in a month, but I really really want these. And my mind is leaping to multiduneous variations. Gah! Thank you. You are a true artist and if you were here I'd make you a crown.
Yes you should definitely do it.
Oh I have never been limited my age in either extreme! I'm a clown - there is nothing (including nothing) that I won't wear if I take a mind to. I only said my age to show that these shenanigan pants have an appeal to all sorts of people!
@@janmorrison4141 Perfect. I wish I could see your take on the shenanigan pants.
@@chelsead6054 Exactly. From the moment one stops caring about other people's opinions and just does what one wants one will be much happier. You have your funky clothes. I like to dance around the streets while lip syncing to the music in my headphones instead of boringly walking. :D While sitting in public transport I switch the dancing with drumming on my legs (but I do that relatively quietly. I don't want to disturb people. I just want to be my weird fun-having self, not rude or anything.).
As a 90's early 2000's grunge goth kid myself, I very much remember trip pants, and the fact that Victorian pant skirts made your brain think of trip pants is exactly why I love your channel. THESE ARE AWESOME!!!!
These are the perfect combination of split skirt and tripp pants!
Me at the beginning of this video: Is Morgan okay?
Me at the end of this video: I require shenanigan pants in linen. Clearly this is just a genius at work.
I have black linen… you just gave me ideas…
I am really intrigued by how well this mash-up worked. Despite the punk aesthetic, these are very practical with their pockets and mighty morphin design elements, and that really aligns with the concept of a walking skirt. I’m still curious to see how the rear gathers intersected with the through-the-leg pants bit.
The zipper idea is an incredibly great idea, and it saved my friend's design plans when I showed her. it actually solved an idea she had for her wedding dress for after the ceremony, she could shorten the skirt of her wedding dress when it came to dancing time.
These are wonderous! I am so happy you have them! I'd make them the same except with silver hardware.
This looks so so cool! It would be a great foundation for a Victorian “Harley Quinn” costume ❤️
That was totally my thought as well.
Such strong Kingdom Hearts vibes from these, especially with the cinched hem!
This is the best thing I've seen in ages. I think everyone who watches this realizes that our lives are lacking until we have this pair of secret pants, too. And can I just applaud your stunning creativity in how versatile (and modular?) these are? You're a wunderkind for sure. Love it!
All pants, skirts, etc. need pockets, especially secret pants! 😄
I am not the person who would usually appreciate this sort of thing. Like, the style, the idea, the everything of it.
BUT I *NEED* THESE.
Morgan, I love you. This is the very excellent mash up of historical/edgy fun extra-ness that brings me such joy. These pants are straight up the coolest and I am torn between loving the Dragon ball look and the suspenders. Lol my brother used to be able to carry a whole sub sandwich in his pants pockets.
Extra-ness is an excellent way to put it! 🤣
I'll never forget the feeling of wonder when a kid in my class retrieved an ENTIRE TWO LITER of pop from his pants leg. Those pockets were truly magical.
Oh god yes!! The Tardis like nature of the jnkos and their decendents. I miss that kind of cargo space. I am glad their return in accelerating
I cannot emphasize on how much I LOOOVEEE these pants and all the combinations you have made! 17:56 I was mind-blowned when you moved the front pannel up to make it overals and the idea of the bottom shape of the front pannel is simply genious! I loved that you let your creativity flow embark you in this new journey of clothes making. ps : love the haircut too!
