Well, it's actually a prequel to the first game. Caesar saying he has powerful friends is probably a reference to Curien in HOTD1. That, and G in Overkill is described as a rookie. He's survived all the way through HOTD3.

The whole 'they're mutants' thing is just a poke at how a lot of zombie media refuses to actually use the damn word in said media, probably due to the myth that George A. Romero never used the word in his original trilogy (which he did, in Dawn there's a point late in the film that Peter clearly uses the term).

And it draws attention to the fact that that you're refusing to say the word that the vast majority of your audience will just casually use without a care about whether the term exists in the fictional universe. It's something of a thorny issue either way. Personally, I just say 'screw it' and say 'zombie'

Unintentional humor that is the voice acting from House of the Dead 2 is gold. That kind of humor is everyone's type. The so bad it's good humor is powerful stuff The intentional humor here in Overkilled is well just different. In the sense of if this is your type of humor then this is top notch and you appreciate the direction they went with and like Gman himself said it saves the game at times
Blue Estate is another rail shooter that bares some similarity to Overkill that I think is definitely worth a check out. Someone on the Steam community said it was made by the same team but I can't confirm that, after having played it though, I'd believe it. One of it's selling points is how many ways you can control it which is not only with a Mouse or controller but also USB Light Guns and even this hand tracker called the Leap Motion.

I have 2&3 and overkill director's cut on the Wii. So much replay value it's unreal. If they were the only Wii games that system would still be in my top ten of all time.
Recently played through the Wii and PC/PS3 versions again. It actually bothers me how much content was removed from the PS3/PC version which was in the Wii. Nothing game changing, but it does change the atmosphere of a few of the levels. For example, in the first level, in Papa Caesar's House of Pain, there are corpses strung up from the ceiling all over the basement. There are also Zombies feeding these corpses into the meat grinding machine and feeding of the contents coming out. All of which was removed from the PS3/PC version. However they did add a better UI and more level content to the PS3/PC version, along with the two bonus Varla/Candy levels which are quite fun to play through. The only thing I don't know is if the American Flag still waves whenever you get a GoreGasm on the PS3/PC. When your reach Goregasm on the Wii, your HP/Combo bar becomes a wavinbg American flag until you take damage. Since I only have a controller for PS3, I've never really reach Goregasm, or reached it for long.

Hell yeah, its about damn time this game got some proper recognition! Between Overkill and those two Resident evil rail shooters (although darkside chronicles felt kinda weaker than umbrella chronicles from what i remember), i had an absolute blast getting through them alongside my brother

Remember this like yesterday, how I spent all my rubles (Russia currency) playing on a shitty arcade machine with House of the Dead 3, with these badass shotguns in a shitty shopping centre. Even when I ran out of money, I was spending some time aiming with those shotguns at invisible zombies and doing "tschk-tschk" reload sound.
Great game, played it to death on my Wii, one thing that might be missing from these newer versions is the dual gun mode the wii had (you play with two wiimotes but only have one health bar).
Late comment, but I've had this on wii for years and still love it. I've also got the magnum attachment that the control goes into so you're holding a "gun". Works really well
I think my favourite single scene in this game is how you actually get the miniguns for the final boss. Also "One night in the Bayou" is the best song on the soundtrack as it's a song about a guy telling his son how he fucked a zombie and accidentally ate it's lips while kissing it.

My parents even have a old picture at the Canary Islands when I was young with house of the dead arcade machines in the background. I did not play the first game as much as the second game because I had the second game on xbox and I still have the lightgun controller for xbox after all these years.
Yeah, honestly I agree with you. I play the pc version on steam and it's pretty serviceable, especially since it's kinda your best rail shooter on steam. I really hope more get added, especially beacuse it's a perfect example of a modern rail shooter with the gun upgrades. Especially when you get the secret guns later on like the explosive crossbow and gwendeloin.

Little late, but just wanted to say this. Those giant mutant titans aren't the boss together. Two enter the room in the cutscene, then one (Brutus) flat-out murders the other and you fight Brutus.
This game was absolute perfection on the Wii, and i remember getting such a crazy high score on the swamp level, that i couldn't actually beat it when i went back, with the hardest level being the hospital as maintaining a goregasm was really hard, but it was so insanely fun on the Wii!

Literally Planet Terror the videogame. The shooting is fine but I prefer playing the typing version because it is more challenging and I actually have improved my typing skills
The life system is implemented during the Directors cut levels. Also the roided out zombie comes in during the Carnival level first. The camera isn’t random. You just have to replay the levels and learn the timing for each section. That’s how you’ll get your combos high.

Little late, but just wanted to say this. Those giant mutant titans aren't the boss together. Two enter the room in the cutscene, then one (Brutus) flat-out murders the other and you fight Brutus.
This game was absolute perfection on the Wii, and i remember getting such a crazy high score on the swamp level, that i couldn't actually beat it when i went back, with the hardest level being the hospital as maintaining a goregasm was really hard, but it was so insanely fun on the Wii!
Ngl i always used to think those black curtains over game cabinets in arcades were meant to make the cabinet more private so you'd be scared more

the typing of the dead version is pretty unique, fun if you like typing on your blue switch keyboard.
I swear, every time he gives a joke about "ya mum" reminds me to like the video. Thos mum jokes hit every time.
Did I just hear him call someone "Diaper Sh#t"? Haha..I don't know what's worse, the thought of someone actually writing that line, or the thought of him saying it during an improv session, lol..both are equally as hilarious to me, lol..
Definitely warrants a warning for the constant flashing lights; my head was killing me when you were playing clips of the old game. Heck, the curtains in Australia might have been there to protect the kids from it, lol.
The main thing I love about this game is how it is a love letter to grindhouse cinema from start to finish.

I actually beat this game both times the regular version of the story, and the Director's Cut version of the story with the regular un-upgraded version of the starting Magnum

Literally Planet Terror the videogame. The shooting is fine but I prefer playing the typing version because it is more challenging and I actually have improved my typing skills

Hardest I've ever laughed at a game was seeing "JESUS CHRIST FENTON" lurch towards me in TOTD Overkill
Fun fact: This game did at one point hold the world record for most f bombs dropped in a video game.

The life system is implemented during the Directors cut levels. Also the roided out zombie comes in during the Carnival level first. The camera isn’t random. You just have to replay the levels and learn the timing for each section. That’s how you’ll get your combos high.
I remember playing this on the Wii and I absolutely loved it. Such an amazing B Snuff film I never knew I wanted.
Overkill is House of the Dead if Michael Bay was the script writer.
