I knew your review wouldn't disappoint. I loved the ending even in the manga and now I feel vindicated with the anime. I think a lot of manga readers also weren't really used to the subtle representation of love and minimalistic dialogue cause the love from Eren to Mikasa was obvious to me since he was on paths with Zeke. Also, the conversation between Armin and Eren felt to me like a friend comforting a dying partner, someone who is long gone and probably would never be seen again. So it was heartfelt and pitiful, instead of being controversial as so many thought at the time.
I feel in a way that this finale was more of a Hayashi product than an Isayama one. Well duh, he's the director, but as someone who've been following him arguably since day one, you can see everything about his style and the way he goes on about setting his projects in this, in a way it's like an accumulation of all his experience and passion, his 3DCG proficiency and studies applied here, his horror/atmospheric and action roots in every step in those two specials with a mix of uncanny outlook to it. Although I guess it's a collective love of all the staff to this series, heck even Imai came back and Sakai arguably made some of the best work in his career. From a writing standpoint, I think whether I disliked or liked the ending didn't matter since day one, I always felt a certain way about how he wrote the story in a very grounded manner, even reflecting irl. More show than tell to what Isayama gets credit for. However, I did love the changes he made in the Armin/Eren convo since it was practically his biggest regret and said he wasn't able to portray it in the way intended in the Manga.

This piece of art has been the greatest story of all time that I've read. This is my number 1. To the people saying eren got character assassinated, that was erens character, his genocidal facade is just that, a facade. That was what he had to become, its not what he wanted. Ive seen this story begin 10 years ago at 12 years old, and seeing it finish at 22, it has been powerful in my own development as a person, as i became politically savvy, i became more humble, and gave me much bigger perspective on humanity.
7:34 Those memories actually take place when Armin and the Alliance are heading to the port after taking the plane from Floch and the rest of the Yeagerists. So the Rumbling is in fact taking place during that conversation.
I don’t think he’s a slave of freedom per say. He’s the slave to his idea of freedom. Like a preconceived notion that he obsessed over for so long. To the point that when he got the power to actually change things… more importantly, when he got the bigger perspective, it just confused him all the more. Also he was pathetic, obsessive, and born with a few nuts loose. Throughout the show, he kept using his powers without much thought, 9/10 times, it caused more harm than good. Even coerced his friends into dangerous conflict. Finally, the non-linear method purview of time and AOT’s deterministic timeline meant that he knew exactly what would happen. It was the most in line with his fucked up mindset. All these factors came together to cause all this and Eren, the idiot he was, had to bear that burden. He’s still not the victim here, but you understand why it all happened.
He didnt really change the ending though. You would know this if you read his recent interview. He said he always knew what the ending would be, even when he first started the manga. All he did was add a bit more context to the anime ending.
The manga ending was still a rushed, confused, incoherent mess but the anime ending actually sold the massive change in the tone of the story for me on an emotional level. I fundamentally still think the ending is nonsense, but it was quite powerful. I guess my biggest gripe is this: for thousands of years the Eldians were treated as a hostile alien entity by the rest of the world to such a degree that peace between the Eldians and the rest of the humans would never be possible under any circumstances - no exceptions. So either the first 95% of the story is just made up bullshit, or the final 5% of the story is made up bullshit. I wanted 100% of the story to be coherent and consistent and the lack of consistency we were delivered will be the only blemish against one of the greatest works of fiction ever conceived. Edit: Also on a side note, Pieck's cart titan's ability to re-titanize an endless amount of times is really dumb... and Falco being a falcon is also kinda lame...
"I don't know, I just wanted to, so very badly. I'm a slave to freedom, an idiot who got too much power. Also I killed my own mom, Ymir loved her rapey slave owner and Mikasa is the chosen one. Why? Only the Founder Ymir knows." - Eren Yaeger

Good video but I find you added too many images and some of them were too goofy and didn't fit the tone of the video. It was too distracting. Anime ending made me appreciate the story more. Initially I wasn't a big fan of the ending. It was an amazing episode. I don't regard Eren as neither a villain nor a saviour. People have a hard time not sticking to one of these. He's a tragic character with flaws. He's a slave to freedom but it is clear that the world took his freedom away. One can't entirely blame Eren because the world is not in the right as well. More often, people want to paint him as a monster and a slave to his nature. That is true but not in its entirety. One also has to look at the circumstances of Eren's life. He was born inside a circle of walls with humanity constantly threatening him and his people. Diplomacy was not working. One cant understand why he made the decisions he did even though they were monstrous. It would be wrong to paint any of the characters in the story as true villains or heroes. Defeats the whole purpose of exploring the perspectives of both sides. Few exceptions to this is King Fritz and maybe some Marley govt officials. One element of the story I didn't like is Eren's decision to kill his mom. This was excessive and did not needed to be added. It tries to paint him too much of a monster but even still, I can't see him entirely as a monster or true villain. It contradicts the nuance the author is trying to establish.
eren breaking down was never the issue it is the dialogue and the plot holes that got created are the issue even ppl who hate the ending and are ANR ending fans eren still breaks down in ANR as well but the context is just better

Misconception of most people regarding EREN YEAGER Most say eren lied to floch and yeagarists and eren was a hero from the start and was only doing rumbling so that his friends could kill him afterwards and have a code geass ending…….ITS WRONG Eren isn’t lelouch He wasn’t intending to be lelouch His goal wasn’t to sacrifice himself when he started out the declaration of war on Marley and basically massacred people in liberio Eren didn’t lied to floch He intended to complete the rumbling Him sacrificing so that his friends could kill him was his EXCUSE and even when armin point out that they can’t be the heroes like helos …what was eren’s reply ? He ignored and started talking about ymir When he said to armin in the last beach scene that all population is same so paradise can come up with a solution Armin literally told him That ‘are you telling a joke’ You can see from eren’s face that he was slowly realising that he did the rumbling for HIMSELF And eren’s baby scene is also shown to conclude the fact that being free was his BIRTHRIGHT that’s why he said he didn’t knew why he did it It simply was in his nature I am not saying ‘it was in his nature to genocide ‘ But what I am saying that it was in his nature to be FREE If Marley didn’t did those atrocities on eren then eren wouldn’t have genocide on them because he would have been free at that point and not caged by walls and that is why in the end armin also took responsibility because not all was eren’s fault as I said before And historia also says this in the end It’s just not eren’s fault rumbling happened but because of culmination of the world’s fault Eren was just the victim a slave of freedom

The anime ending didnt need to make things more clear, but it did. Yams is pretty based as always, rather than "change" the actual ending, he heard the community discussing the language used and felt inspired to clear up the important things.

Ah yes please tell me more about how I said that AOT's ending is the best ending.
Please tell me more of how you are able to write a better story than AOT.
Please go on sir, you sound like an intellectual person who it very rational.
Loved the ending
Not the glizzytron 9000 edit
Love the ending ❤ been following you since before the name change my man, thank you for your coverage of some of my favorite series!!
Remember while back, sufferent made a "last video" talking about AOT, and you said you probably won't talk about the series ever again due to the toxicity that brings. Glad you you came back, after the anime ending was fairly and positively accepted worldwide. Anime onlies were in shock, why the hell a good portion of Manga readers were so negative about the ending. Very happy AOT went out with a bang

Followed you from your videos about the manga man, feels nostalgic seeing you talk about it for one last time
This piece of art has been the greatest story of all time that I've read.
I love the way you edit your videos now lmao
Yeah man keep it up, keep making more of those weird cuts mid sentence, that sure is fun for the audience.
What a great topic for a video, can't wait to see how wholesome the comments will be!
He didnt really change the ending though. You would know this if you read his recent interview. He said he always knew what the ending would be, even when he first started the manga. All he did was add a bit more context to the anime ending.
No pregnant Mikasa with Jean
I wouldn’t read too much into the recent interview. isayama contradicts himself all the time.
isayama trying to do dmg control and gaslight his past interviews XD
@aligmal5031 I do recall that he said Eren didn't see Mikasa romantically before, but he obviously changed that later.
@@raec5426 he doesn't need to say it in the story there are 0 scenes for eren being romantically in love with mikasa
9/10 story, 5/10 manga ending, 7/10 anime ending. From someone who followed the story since 2013.
Edit: Also on a side note, Pieck's cart titan's ability to re-titanize an endless amount of times is really dumb... and Falco being a falcon is also kinda lame...
lol i just realized Ymir needed to see Mikasa not love Eren but yet still Mikasa apparently never got married and never parted ways with the scarf.
Great video but your editing needs some work. Not hating or anything just thought I'd give my 2 cent worth of advice. Your voice is great but the meme transitions feel off.
If you know much about the cyclical nature of the universe in Norse mythology then the ending of AoT only makes sense.
"Eren is a slave to his freedom"
Sounded like Eren is more parallel to Ymir than Mikasa cause both their obsession are what causes them to suffer 😂
Anyone is a better parallel to Ymir than Mikasa
Great take on the final episode, but this was far from your best editing.
May I suggest stopping the random clips in the video, it’s kind of annoying
This is Attack on Retcon.
I don't think Titan powers are found again, as Eren has no memories of future inheritors he is the last attack titan.
Well this is based of norse mythology more specifically Ragnarok, it will happen again as shown in the anime.
@@mitchellbooth8435 War will happen again and contact with the parasite potentially, but that doesn't mean titans themselves will come back. The parasite was just life it can grant something different
It contradicts the nuance the author is trying to establish.

eren breaking down was never the issue it is the dialogue and the plot holes that got created are the issue

Misconception of most people regarding EREN YEAGER
Most say eren lied to floch and yeagarists and eren was a hero from the start and was only doing rumbling so that his friends could kill him afterwards and have a code geass ending…….ITS WRONG
Eren isn’t lelouch
He wasn’t intending to be lelouch
His goal wasn’t to sacrifice himself when he started out the declaration of war on Marley and basically massacred people in liberio
Eren didn’t lied to floch
He intended to complete the rumbling
Him sacrificing so that his friends could kill him was his EXCUSE and even when armin point out that they can’t be the heroes like helos …what was eren’s reply ? He ignored and started talking about ymir
When he said to armin in the last beach scene that all population is same so paradise can come up with a solution
Armin literally told him
That ‘are you telling a joke’
You can see from eren’s face that he was slowly realising that he did the rumbling for HIMSELF
And eren’s baby scene is also shown to conclude the fact that being free was his BIRTHRIGHT that’s why he said he didn’t knew why he did it
It simply was in his nature
I am not saying ‘it was in his nature to genocide ‘
But what I am saying that it was in his nature to be FREE
If Marley didn’t did those atrocities on eren then eren wouldn’t have genocide on them because he would have been free at that point and not caged by walls and that is why in the end armin also took responsibility because not all was eren’s fault as I said before
And historia also says this in the end
It’s just not eren’s fault rumbling happened but because of culmination of the world’s fault
Eren was just the victim a slave of freedom
Eren was hailed as one of... if not the best Anime Protagonist/Antagonist.
Until Chapter 139
He still is after 139. Ending tries to humanize him a bit, which works well with the nuance created with most of the other characters in the story. Why do people love to think of things as black and white?
@@adriant240disagree that the ending tried to humanize him. If you listen to the ed name of love's lyrics, you could tell the ending was foreshadowed since a while ago
Since Isayama said he was heavily inspired by the Muv Luv Alternative VN he should have ended in a similar manner, everyone dying one one by one.
only ending I would have accepted
What is with the 21st century comedy style of editing? I watched your older AoT videos when the manga was in the final arc and they were genuinely good chapter-by-chapter commentary, but this new style of editing is obnoxious and unfocused.
