I’m sorry but when okafar BLEW UP bruuuhuhhhh I was like thinking “he’s in the trailers, he’s in the interviews, he’s DEFINITELY going to be a long term character.” Boy, man, girl, woman, was I completely WRONG LIKE WHAT that part was just crazy man just plain crazy like I don’t even know what to say man all I can say is that episode was SOO GREAT and i can’t wait until the next one. Many things had me jumping, SCREAMING, SWEATING, all of the above it was so good and I thank God I got to see it.✝️
It was the kinda unpredictable death that had the right impact cuz in such a short time I did like the character and was intrigued by him. That’s something the main show lost for a bit during Seasons 6-8 (There were some genuinely shocking deaths in there but at that point it had started to become easy to predict)
I don’t remember but I think most of the scenes from the trailer that he’s in are from that first episode but he could still be in more flashbacks later on
How did I know he wouldn't be a "fan" of the Rick & Michonne dreams dreamscapes. Lol My intuition rarely fails me. ;) The yelling... 😬 ;) The dream-state Michonne scenes were a smart addition for the story that they're attempting to tell. Would a man who is trying desperately to get home to his family NOT dream about his family?? ;) lol He's depressed, tired, somewhat defeated and his dreams are trying him to his past - and yet in a more appealing/pleasing backdrop.... they ARE his DREAMS, after all. ;) And dreams are often odd - yet with an occasional message or meaning. Michonne telling Rick that he isn't "stuck" for example... kind of a heady subliminal pep talk, if you will. :) Those scenes were purpose-filled and logical. The audience should see the Michonne character outside of running around, killing Walkers and saving Rick - although one might say that these images that he was dreaming up, WERE saving him, in a way. ;) My two cents. 😎
Yes, it felt like the first hour of a movie. This show is so well-written because Andy and Danai did most of the writing and guiding. I LOVE every bit of it. It is paced like a movie, and I loved it.
Gimple seems to be at his best when he’s not the sole on in charge in creating. So it deffo is helping that Danai and Andrew are involved Cuz before he was showrunner of the main show he did write some good episodes like Clear and even during his run as showrunner he did write some good episodes in there, especially during Seasons 4 and 5
just one episode in, and it already feels like a series that has been worth the wait all of these years. everyone who jumped ship and couldn’t stick around during the lows will never get to experience the high that this series will be 🎉
Agreed completely. I finally finished the original walking dead after the last season been out for a while. Never really got into fear, or beyond but I did stick around for the last couple seasons of the original. But man this was refreshing to see and I haven’t felt this hype for the walking like I did when I first started watching the walking dead when it first came out
being as its been FIVE years since we've seen Rick on TV, when AMC+ said they'd be starting at 3am eastern today, there was no way in hell i was going to be able to sleep. So i watched it at 3am. Jerry was RIGHT! LOVED IT!
"The world is ours, and we know how to take it." Rick to Michonne (TWD S6 Ep 15) "We can make this whole damn world ours if we want to." Michonne to Rick (The Ones Who Live S1 Ep1)
whats crazy is that Rick has been with the CRM longer than he was with his normal group. He has been with Okafor longer than he was with Daryl. This episode was crazy and proved that Rick was TWD, show was never the same with out him.
Yeah if there's a nitpick for me it would be that they failed to emphasize on that point, I think it's extremely critical in conveying how Rick has changed from the Rick we knew to a willing soldier. Literally worn down his resistance by TIME. Just displaying the text "5 years after the bridge" and then "Now." just doesn't tell the casual viewer how much time has passed. You only get it if you have a general idea of the timeline.
I enjoyed the pacing, We don't get random filler that is useless to the plot or the characters or feels like a CW show. With the Daryl show and Ricks show(if it keeps around the same quality) arguably being the best possible spot the Walking Dead has been since season 2-6, now they are actually bringing back old viewers and bringing new viewers in as well. It actually seems like they looked at other connected universe media and actually saved the franchise. Going back to the movie part, if they continue on this path and revive the franchise, anything could happen?
Crying like a baby rn. I needed this so bad. So bad. My birthday is tomorrow and I’ve been waiting for this since the date was announced. I’ve been struggling bad and sometimes my “small things” to look forward to like my shows are really my daily drive. Being with some of my family for cake , and then then eating a good dinner while finally Rick grimes… I missed him so much. This was the first review and reaction ive watched. I just finished the first episode. You’re awesome and I can’t wait to watch this with you. You echoed all my ideas.
I also for real screamed. My mom yelled up to me to make sure I was alright and then promptly turned on the episode to see why I was so pumped about lol
the episode had me geeking out so hard as a hardcore twd fan. we literally had comic references, fear references, wb reference all in one episode. we learned so much about operation cobalt which in my opinion is an extremely interesting event that fear never really touched on. after the disappointment that fear became and how mediocre world beyond was, this along with dead city and daryl dixon has made me happy to be a twd fan again. andrew and danai are absolutely flawless as usual and i cannot wait to see what this series brings.
Honestly I would give anything to have been with this franchise since this start, but I was too young. I can’t imagine what people who have been here since the start are feeling, but I thought that episode was FREAKING amazing! Bravo Vince, Danai, Andy and anyone else involved!
A’s are strong natural leaders and B’s are just people that want to survive but and would mostly follow A’s. That’s why the CRM only wants B’s, they don’t want any A’s to change the system of the CRM or cause any trouble, your welcome.
Love your review but I’m curious why you weren’t a fan of Rick/michonne dream sequence? It illustrates how Rick wanted to meet michonne not this war-torn, apocalyptic minefield
Scott, Danai and Anthony worked on every episode together, if I'm not mistaken - with Episode 4 being written solely by Danai, as well as placed as the showrunner.
Okafor, during the fight scene, tells Rick that he knows about his letter, his wife (names MICHONNE), his daughter, his community and all... Letting know that if Rick tried to escape that he be found and putting his loved ones in danger as well. Let's call it what it was....
Great review like usual! We were so honored to have you , James, and Brian on our little show the other night to chat about Rick, Michonne, and all our other thoughts on the franchise! Made for such a great little moment in our TWD Family here on UA-cam. Very impressed you didn't slip up with a spoiler haha! Hopefully we'll see y'all again for the finale. nodle & dess
Oh my daysssssss finally sat and watched it!!! Then come here for your review!!! Holy fuck! That was a brilliant episode so fuckin cerebral and twisted! And all this happened in episode one! No idea how this series will wrap up! Will come back for my own thoughts later! But as just discovered your channel! Yes bro!!
Im just gonna say, we share IDENTICAL energy and passion towards this show. I watched with my gf and she loved it too but I was shitting my pants and tearing up 😂
I think this episode was perfect, it kept me entertained to the point I was worried it would be short and I have to wait for a week. The pacing is amazing of how they executed it and I don't think its rushed at all and they just told us what we needed to be told and not fuck around for a long goddam time just to see the reunion and I liked that they did the reunion in episode 1 because all of us already know that they gonna meet somehow and I love that they did that already cause it didn't waste time at all. Besides all that I do love the new vibes in this show it is very military movie kinda vibes and I like it, and I think we just got introduced to a Big world, I think the walking dead is in a point that it could run for 50 years or so with the stories they can make
Thx @jerry. Appreciate your takes of TWD. I know that you are a fanatic on all the TWD genre, and I typically agree with your assessments on the shows across the spectrum.
Hey I'm glad its out and to be apart of seeing u do the editing it all paid of loved the steam can't wait for the next one pls do this jerry with every one's who live episode a edit steam but overall yh the ep was perfect except for okafur death I don't want see flashbacks of him I wanna see him in the present 😢
For what it’s worth: I think there’s a very clear picture of how to judge the 3 spin offs. The Ones Who Live: Makes you think of PEAK TWD, like season 4 thru 6. Daryl Dixon: Makes you think of slightly past its prime/lost its touch walking dead like season 7 and 8. TWD Dead City: Makes you think of really fizzled out TWD like season 11. Not very good.
It's nice hearing you so excited about an episode of TWD after the turd we had to endure from FTWD lol. I really liked it, it made be invested in the character of Rick Grimes again. I still don't follow Michonne/Rick love story, never was a fan of that pairing. But holy sht, did I feel the chemistry in the dream sequences that Rick had. I genuinely felt this is how Rick and Michonne should have met. Then when they reunited at the end, I was like "oh, it's the real world again'. Like I swear the chemistry between them in the dream sequence was a 1,000 times better than anything they want to force us. I just can't explain why that made me feel more for their relationship than anything else. I really liked that they didn't drag the show with questions like the "A" or "B" shit and gave reasonable explanations for the questions that were already being teased for a long time.
Scott had already spoke in an interview about having more than two seasons. We know the ratings are gonna skyrocket. The original walking dead was set for just two seasons. Look at it now. So who knows where this leads now.
Can't agree more, i got ten minutes in my mouth was hanging open 😮 it was a wonderful style, the effort and thought into it was absolutely brilliant. So happy and glad the years gone by have played off so well!!
Rick drew on multiple phones and it’s understandable that he could have been imagining how Judith would look at that age so I don’t think it’s that unbelievable 🤷♀️ you also see him toss the bag into the boat so we know that boat eventually moved with the tide then Michonne finds it all, so yes it would be all a bit far fetched in the real world but stranger things have happened in the real world as well and this is a tv show so it’s ok 👌 I don’t think they will bother with PP and Heath’s disappearance imo
OMGG i finally finished watching it TWICE bc i was just so shook. Im just in shock mf Rick Grimes is back on the big screen. Andys acting was PHENOMENAL, its so hard to believe Rick and him arent 2 different people. Also im glad i had my shittin pants on bc that fucking helicopter scene stole my soul, i don't think weve seen that much gore in twd. Im so pissed Okafor's dead man 😭 i was really liking his character. I liked the back and forth between Rick and Thorne, and the his friend ship with Estaban was simply refreshing. And seeing Rick basically wearing a domestic murder jacket in the dream sequences with Michonne was so sweet to me 😭 I have no idea what path this series is gonna take next but Im so excited and deathly nervous that this ends with one of them dying.
Agree agree agree! It was amazing. I stopped watching after Ricks last season.Didn’t even see Michonnes last episode until recently to prep for the Ones Who Live. And can we talk about how hot Rick looks in an all black uniform! Fire!
The Episode was wicked. Just think how much better it would all be if Corol was out there still. It’s dope how Andy Lincoln can literally jump straight back into Rick after all this time.
The first episode of TOWL had Avatar 2009 vibes. With Rick narrating throughout the episode and being against the Civic Republic Military similiarly to Sully narrating the movie and being against the military.
Great episode. As you kind of point out the pacing was my only issue. It felt like they took a 90-minute episode and cut it down to an hour. There was kind of too much going on one moment, then it slowed down so much. You were almost bored for a few minutes. Hopefully that's just in the first episode.
For the most part, this was a great episode. It was so good to see Rick again. The reunion at the end was not only deeply moving, but deeply satisfying to all of us die hard TWD fans. The thing I had a problem with was how they wrote Rick. I was surprised when I found out that Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira were involved in the writing, because I found Rick to be written kind of dumb. It was dumb that he cut off his hand for absolutely ZERO reason. That's just dumb, and Rick wouldn't do that. It made no sense. It was dumb that he contemplated suicide. It's just not how Rick's character is. He's not a quitter, he's a survivor. Maybe it was written like this to show how desperate he was to get back home, but I still thought it was dumb. Other than that, everything else was excellent. The special effects, the acting, the sets, everything was really well done. Looking forward to seeing the next 5 episodes!
The hand cut off was because cutting the chain would cause too much sound/movement on the chain. That's my take. And he wasn't "dumb", I think a lot is desperation and trying to escape ANY way possible
i loved the pacing, it was perfect. Daryl show and Dead City were too slow to get to the point. Dead City had nothing new. Daryl did, but I didnt feel as invested because a lack of things making sense or continuity. But this one episode had real urgency, i cant say "well why doesnt rick just leave" unlike Daryl show. It showed a lot in the first episode which i want, i dont want gimple dialogue for 40 mins, i want story and action
I loved everything about this episode. I stopped watching shortly after ricks death and it's like never left. It just feels like The Walking Dead has evolved or grew up and Im here for it.
As a person who just benged watch the series 2 weeks ago and Is caught up this was a GREAT EPISODE. Episode 3 is where the story progression start. Episode 2 is gonna be Michonne flash back. I loved the pacing, it didn't leave out too much and what we need to know will be in the later Episodes
I quit watching whenever the covid break happened and it delayed the show but my boy rick being back is so dope and ive actually been very hyped for the show, 1st episode was dope, the dream sequences were kinda cringe imo but the rest was awesome
I saw your no spoiler review a few days back and i was trying so hard not to believe you when you said it was one of the best eps because every time i get my hopes too high, I'm left disappointed but man oh man i know now what you meant!! This episode was wayyy beyond what i was expecting it to be and damn. It was late at night and i was trying not to scream. Also ik this might sound like I'm over excited but man it feels so light to finally have the answers that we'd been waiting for for so many years. And the fact that we have absolutely no idea where the next episodes might take us is so exciting!! Also, i think the kid in the phone was just Carl lol, people just assumee it was Judith coz they just dress the same.
A's are leaders that will die for what they believe in. They are not supposed to be let in because CRM only wants people that fall in line. B's are the average person they come across just trying to survive. Both can be fighters.
You were "confused" regarding the phones and how he knew what Judith looks like, eh? Lol. Yikes It ISNT as if he'd sketched out some detail oriented PORTRAITS of her. lol They were etch & sketch, one step above stick figure drawings. Lol Judith wearing the cowboy hat would make sense as it went to her when Carl died. Rick likely envisioned Judith wearing it just as Carl did. Let's not be ridiculous here. Lol
Don't know if youve already figured this out but I think you got the A & B thing a bit wrong. A's are leaders that are willing to fight for what they believe in. They are killed because they are considered a threat to the established order. B's are everyone else --- regular people who are content to fall in line and therefore are allowed to live in the city. Hope that helps!
As a person who came into the walking dead late and binged all the seasons,l. I can say with CONFIDENCE that the pacing of the original show was horrendous and that all the future models should be shorter like this
I guess the level of Walking Dead shows were so bad that this show was considered so great? It was alright and it was nice to see Andrew Lincoln again. Let's not overdue it and see how they keep it up or drop the ball.
Only negative is that I wish we saw more of Rick right after the bridge. But honestly, that isn't completely necessary, and this episode was jammed with enough fast paced amazing stuff as it is.
I thought the pace was great. He was a prisoner how much do you really need to see about that? Rick was telling us the important things. Yeah they could show us all the escape attempts but he was caught every time so it wouldn't progress anything.
surprised all you critics liked this? The ones who live was OK... but i was disappointed. We wait 5yrs only to get Rick to cut off his own hand FOR NOTHING!! Not for a bite, not to get away.... he is still captured but now he is one handed/ weaker for the rest of series. WHAT A WASTE. 2 handed Rick might be worth the watch, one is not Not worth my time anymore
The only thing I didn't like in the episode it's just seeing rick how old he is now I start watching this franchise in 2013 but man this is such a overwhelming episode so much emotion I had in this episode I can't compress it in to words I just subscribe to you mate 🖤
Watched it AS SOON as it came on AMC+, best Walking Dead Universe content in years, after Fear being terrible for years, World Beyond being boring, Dead City being okay and being very disappointed with Daryl Dixon, The Ones Who Live is a very big upgrade.
You felt that it'd be difficult for Andrew Lincoln to be able to back into the Rick role?? 😬💆🏽♀️ lol Yeah.. you definitely have a green eye view of all things TWD, if that was your expectation. Those of us Day 1 Walking/Talking Dead admirers, who also watched the comicon panels and interviews, throughout the years, KNOW better. Including in a recent 40 minute promotional discussion/interview with Danai & Rick, where they're walking the grounds of the Alexandria set and where Glenn & Abe met their demise,... and Rick tells Danai just how difficult it was for him to leave his "family" there except that his "REAL family" needed him back home. He said that he was SO torn, that he would up staying another year. He says that he was supposed to leave a season earlier but decided to stay because it was just too difficult to leave. He wasn't ready. All if that to say that Andrew Lincoln IS Mr. MuthuPhukkin Rick Doo-Da Grimes in his Spirit. Lol Most of us knew he was going to be right back at home - a home that he deeply loves and respects. ;)
They don't want A's at all they're charismatic, and people will follow them, they're willing to die for what they believe. That didn't make sense to me .Why were they looking for them for what, especially if they don't want A's there. People love Rick Grimes cause he's so real he's emotional and imperfect and strong. He's loyal to his family and people, and him not going with Michonne to be with his children doesn't add up ,I really hope he does. They've strung us along for so long for these people to find each other, and people are so sure there'll be another season but I'm not so sure. At least not yet.
I also found it confusing but what I understood is that Okafor is a A: great leader and doesn’t fear to kill and go to war. But at the same time he is feared and not trusted - for instance the scene when major Beal (is that his name 😅) ask if he is up to something. They don’t want any more As. I guess that’s why Jadas said that Rick was a B (we all know he is clearly a A).
Bro, i love your content, but I'm pretty sure the dude said that As are people who have been bitten and haven't turned yet, and Bs are people who haven't been bitten. I was watching it while getting ready for work, so I could have misheard it, but I don't think I did. And 80% subscribers?? That's impressive bro, I've never heard a UA-camr say that lol

Just followed! I love your RAW emotion and love for the show! WE.ARE.BACK!!! 🧟♂️
My favorite potential plot is that Rick will sacrifice the idea of his family to save the world with the crm
He is long overdue what a brilliant gifted talented man and he makes who ever he is in ascene with better
Incredible
Scott had already spoke in an interview about having more than two seasons. We know the ratings are gonna skyrocket. The original walking dead was set for just two seasons. Look at it now. So who knows where this leads now.
" look at it now " you mean, look at its reputation for going on longer than perhaps it should have? and you want more? lol
Scott damn nailed this one, we might be witnessing walking dead's 2nd peak.
And seeing Rick basically wearing a domestic murder jacket in the dream sequences with Michonne was so sweet to me 😭
I have no idea what path this series is gonna take next but Im so excited and deathly nervous that this ends with one of them dying.
I’ve never seen the actor who plays Okafor in anything before but I liked him instantly. Great charisma and great chemistry between him and Rick.
Great episode
Agree agree agree! It was amazing. I stopped watching after Ricks last season.Didn’t even see Michonnes last episode until recently to prep for the Ones Who Live. And can we talk about how hot Rick looks in an all black uniform! Fire!
10/10. Comic book Rick finally with the one hand🔥🐐
Crazy Michonne is dangerous 😂 flashes of her revenge thirsty days vs the Governor 😅
A are leaders, CRM killed them except Thorne and Rick because of Okafar and also Jadis said Rick was a B so they dont kill him.
Great episode. As you kind of point out the pacing was my only issue. It felt like they took a 90-minute episode and cut it down to an hour. There was kind of too much going on one moment, then it slowed down so much. You were almost bored for a few minutes. Hopefully that's just in the first episode.
Love the review, brother!! This episode was fucking amazing!! Im so happy with it!
Its an amazing show. I've seen ep 2 but i wont say a thing. Only that brings the same good vibes as old seasons of twd
quality 2nd episode good too . i watched that first so nice suprise getting this today. 2 new episodes in 2 days
This first episode was pretty damn awesome, especially the second half. Ending was crazy.
I loved it. Was keeping my expectations low, but they did a great job on this.
Love your passion just subscribe good video thanks
i loved the pacing, it was perfect.
Bro your underrated asf
Thank you man ❤️
So we’re not going to talk about how Rick almost killed his self with a piece of galss
Rick is such a damn force that he pulled a Berserk just so he can get back to his family.
Wait, was it like a movie...😂
LOVED IT. Can't wait for the next episode.
What we nkt gone do is praise jist gimple when Danai was a writer as well and Andy as well
She wrote episode 4. She said it in an interview. Andy is one of the producers
@@remone2013 she’s show running episode 4 but she’s involved in every aspect of the writing, she’s also a producer and co creator
A is an alpha/ a leader. B Is a worker/ Fallower to clear up what you stated.
A's are leaders that will die for what they believe in. They are not supposed to be let in because CRM only wants people that fall in line. B's are the average person they come across just trying to survive. Both can be fighters.
You were "confused" regarding the phones and how he knew what Judith looks like, eh? Lol. Yikes
It ISNT as if he'd sketched out some detail oriented PORTRAITS of her. lol They were etch & sketch, one step above stick figure drawings. Lol
Judith wearing the cowboy hat would make sense as it went to her when Carl died. Rick likely envisioned Judith wearing it just as Carl did.
Let's not be ridiculous here. Lol
Crazy that Rick was to the point of thinking of killing himself
Don't know if youve already figured this out but I think you got the A & B thing a bit wrong.
A's are leaders that are willing to fight for what they believe in. They are killed because they are considered a threat to the established order.
B's are everyone else --- regular people who are content to fall in line and therefore are allowed to live in the city.
Hope that helps!
The female partner was also in Lucifer and looked like a totally different person.
Not bravo Scott Gimple without saying bravo Danai and Andrew cause they also have EP and story creator credits.
I thought the pace was great. He was a prisoner how much do you really need to see about that? Rick was telling us the important things. Yeah they could show us all the escape attempts but he was caught every time so it wouldn't progress anything.
I FOUND THEM
surprised all you critics liked this?
The ones who live was OK... but i was disappointed. We wait 5yrs only to get Rick to cut off his own hand FOR NOTHING!! Not for a bite, not to get away.... he is still captured but now he is one handed/ weaker for the rest of series. WHAT A WASTE.
2 handed Rick might be worth the watch, one is not
Not worth my time anymore
The only thing I didn't like in the episode it's just seeing rick how old he is now I start watching this franchise in 2013 but man this is such a overwhelming episode so much emotion I had in this episode I can't compress it in to words
I just subscribe to you mate 🖤
tbh its probably a top 10 episode in the twd universe
surprised there was more than one "f-bomb" in the episode, think there was atleast three lol
That’s coral on the phone
Too excited. 😆
Brilliant Episode!!
😬💆🏽♀️ lol
Yeah.. you definitely have a green eye view of all things TWD, if that was your expectation.
Lol
Most of us knew he was going to be right back at home - a home that he deeply loves and respects. ;)
ウォーキングデッド本編を含めてもベストなエピソードだった🎉
In World Beyond, it showed that the CRM experimented on and/or killed the As. Bs are followers and will follow orders and not cause problems.
I’m not gonna watch this show
I’m not paying for those subscriptions
So this is what I do
rick is the shows best
Amazing...fkn siiiiiick
