After watching your first review I purchased two of the $15 guns to use at my brother's house. I sprayed all of the cabinets and wood work with oil based paint and it went on really well. The tricks that I learned was that the paint had to be thin like milk and to use a high capacity air compressor. He had a 20 gallon one and I had to wait a long time for it to catch up with me. We got mine (designed to heep up with several framing nail guns) and never had a problem with atomization.

For Free? Nobody does anything for free my man. He gets monetized by the ads. Now it is pennies but a good (and yes he is good) content provider creates larger audiences that help him. That and his patreon and "merch" as well. Is he rolling in the millions? Not likely, but he is creating an audience. Not kicking the man just saying everyone does it.

Brian, many, many thanks for these tips. I caught the purple paint gun on sale at HF for $9.99. I couldn’t pass it up. So, I followed your instructions and I got it about as good as it could be. I painted base coats and clear and it came out great. I did the job half way outside with some wind and lots of pollen. But all things considered, I’m happy. Again, many thanks for the tips!

I painted my PT Cruiser after my wife wrecked it. I used salvaged parts. It is cool vanilla. Cover passes were 70% over lap. Wow it looks great for a 58 year old man. Shiny and smooth sir. Just like you said it would be. Wish I could send pictures! So proud of the PT Cruiser paint job. Just Remember you are the MAN SIR.
P.S. I used a $75.00 Harbor freight paint gun. Oh man I so happy.

Great content as always. Two things I'd like to see, what do you do with the paint gun while the paints flashing and what do you look for to determine the gun is deteriorating. I noticed it was hanging when you picked it back up, does it just hangout while the paint flashes. Would love to learn more. Keep the videos coming.

Hey, I got an idea for you. Since you have provided a lot of content of how to paint, then how about creating a material on budget paint colors? The paint costs a bit so it would be cool if you could do a comparison of the same color painted using 1) cheapest on the market 2) medium 3) expensive 4) most efficient bang for the buck. I think you can do the same for the primer, clear coats, hardener and reducer.

@@pepelazy3249 If possible, get some thin plastic sheets from Home Depot and make a simple (portable) paint booth. You can make a simple frame out of PVC pipe and the 90° corners, etc. Not sure how big an item you are trying to paint (full-size cars or parts) but a little bit of plastic (anywhere in the room) is going to help.

I've also had great luck with the cheap-o harbor freight spray guns. Best part is, they're so cheap you just throw them in the trash when you're done painting. Easy cleanup. lol.
These guns work amazing when spraying automotive 2k paint as long as you reduce them properly. Most of the complainers have the paint too thick or are trying to spray rustoleum straight out of the can. I've got an old GE fridge from the 1930's in my garage and i sprayed it using a harbor freight gun and rustoleum epoxy paint and 10 years later it looks brand new. The key was using a denim pad to flatten out the orange peel.

I bought this gun years ago for a back up. I ended up using them for years when they were made in Taiwan. Once they moved to China the quality really suffered. I couldn't get the fan pattern to open up and the fan control knob melted with thinner.I can pretty much make any gun "work" but this also depends on paint lines, especially base coats. Dupont is more user friendly with this gun but when I started spraying Glasurit or PPG( DBC) the game changed. These are thicker base coats and getting this gun to lay metallics and blend was a battle. I hung this gun up and never looked back. It just doesn't atomize like it should.

Back when I first started as a Painter for a fleet painting company, Didn't have money for a high end spray gun, So I purchased something equivalent to this spray gun that cost $40 dollars at a flea market.. The other Guy that would paint trucks with me had an Iwata LPH400 and I was able to produce the same paint results spraying 2.1 VOC Single stage Paint which is very thick. Back when I was in Mexico, I painted with the 30 dollar version spray gun of the Binks Model 7 spray gun.. What I'm trying to say is that if you get Good with a cheap spray gun, anything else comes in easy.

I was repainting same color, so I only used base and clear on two and base/ pearl mid/ clear on the last while spraying with 3M gun cleaner in between. Thanks Paint Society, you saved me a few hundred on guns, though if I need to paint again I'll buy another purple gun.

not sure if you read or remember my little theoretical tip/mod for that purple guns main needle. if you look closely at it , the tip is ground pretty rough. i took the needle chucked up in a drill, took some 30 micron emery cloth and polished that needle tip. theres an improvement on how the paint comes out . probably eliminated any turbulence if i had to guess. mod took 5 minutes.

Try finding an add on tank for your compressor, just a simple 10 to 20 gallon size will do. (IE Harbor Freight portable aluminum tire filing tank will do).
Two ways to set up: 1. Place a pipe “T” where your normal quick connect is set up on tank. Build a short hose (min 3/8” ID) with standard couplers & fittings and just plug in when you paint. 2. If you have a permanent set up you can run a regular PVC pipe down the wall etc., to where you are painting. Some distance is helpful, the further away the tank gets the better the water control. Juat connect to that tank and then to your spray gun instead of going back to the original tank on the compressor. Adding more volume will help your pressure to be more stable although you will have to wait longer to fill initially. It would be a problem if you were using the compressor constantly to blow off parts, etc, but for painting you wait between coats so there is plenty of time for the compressor to build back up.
PS. You can also purchase an inexpensive compressor from Harbor Freight, etc, when they’re on sale. Just hook the two together when you are painting and need the extra volume. Probably $100 will get you a decent one, for occasional use.

Teach us how to mix paint Brian? I don’t know if you did a video on that. Mix paint to paint code is what I want to learn. What do you think of battery powered Sander or should I stick with air?

Hey Brian, on another video you showed a trick to setting the fan right where you get a tiny bump up in air pressure. Is the fan totally wide open definitely better for this gun?

I was able to get a great finish with this gun, but you werent joking when you said you gotta REALLY adjust the settings and really gotta work for a good finish. Im ready for a gun that wont take 4 oz of paint to figure out an OK spray pattern

Would be interested in watching a video on the $69 Harbor Freight gun. There aren't many videos on it. Would like to know if it's worth the money over the cheap guns, or if it's trash at that price.

I have actually painted an entire car with this gun, I bought 2 guns (one for base coat and one for clear). Note that the cups for these guns are junk, so when painting a flat surface you need to watch out for leaking or better yet replace it. Brian is right, I didn't use these guns again for painting cars after the first use. They have been retired for small home projects.

I have about the same it's a parkside so it's made from the same factory anyway, I bought the cups like the 3M ones(the cheap one on amazon or aliexpress) it work better with thoses, dont have to watch for the cups to spill everywhere or moving too mast and fluid overflow on the sides. I needed to paint the undercarriage so yeah not a great choice with the OE cups! I still use it, the tips doesnt changed like he show. I spray epoxy primer, base and clear. Primer is easy and allways good, clear is tought to many variables and base not great not terrible!

I’m only a paint dreamer (always had the dream to become a professional automotive / custom miscellaneous product painter) so I have no experience at all in this field and I’m jealous of those of you who do.
With all that said we reach my question… Would I be crazy to say that the finish product kinda looked “wavy” or uneven in spots? Is that a thing or am I just a couple crayons away from the loony bin?
