This performance of the Vivaldi is so “Venetian” - just beautifully elegant and expressive but at the same time always so beautiful in tone and colour. I really like here the musically accomplished work of both the soloist Marlene Ngalissamy who is playing one of my absolutely favourite instruments with such lovely lyrical phrasing and care for best qualities of the music. I find this a memorable performance and people need to take note of this initiative taking place in Ontario which is really making a difference at many levels.

My mother was a violinist in orchestras around the world so I've always been partial to strings, but the Bassoon is right up there as all time favorite instruments. My mother also loved this piece and she said that if she had gone with winds she would've picked this wonderful instrument.

This music work of bassoon of Vivaldi is one of my favorite melodies in the classic world and it was played excellently. The artist had a good technic and nuance as well. Bravo. Plus, the orchestra was excellent, too. Thanks for uploading.
Wow. A stunning performance. I think is the best example of musicianship, and an understanding of this piece, I have ever heard. Superb technique, but qutie a few bassoonists have that. But not this level of "old soul" musicianship. Another aspect is that she tends to play "with" the orchestra rather than on top of it and even almost a playful technique at times (Sort of like how Dennis Brains played horn concertos.)
the tones alone are worth the price of a ticket! bassoon i have one tough instrument to play, like the violin is the highest pitch bassoon is the lowest! beautiful.....and no i dont play it i harmonize with it that is my best! good job
I loved this performance so much that I only noticed the lack of a _Clavicembalo_ at the end. _Bravissimi Tutti il Musicisti e Direttore_ and of course, _Bravissima Signora Ngalissamy_ !

We actually have devices to help with that. One is the hand rest to help us set up the right hand. Another is a harness/neck strap. A third is a balance hanger which lets us hook the neck strap higher, closer to the balance point of the bassoon.
The bass notes of the Almenraeder/Heckel type of bassoon are so strongly reminiscent of what one imagines a wooden saxophone might sound like. So unsuited to the clean lines of Vivaldi's music.

My favourite interpreter of this concerto is Klaus Thunemann, hard to beat. This young lady's performance is pretty damn close!!!! Brava.
