Jaime stared gruffly at me as I approached for my photo, and gave me a small nod, but Grant came right up to me, looked me in the eyes so kindly, shook my hand, asked my name - Gary - and said "It's really nice to meet you, Gary!" He said it so warmly and meaningfully that I was a little surprised. @@InsideOfMyOwnMind Jamie was a pretty big introvert, still is today. He just wants to build cool things and not get involved with cameras or social media
I’ve been lucky enough to meet Adam twice when he’s come to Australia. Once for the behind the myths tour with Jamie and once for his brain candy show. A true gentleman and passionate person, what you see is what you get. Always takes time to make the fans feel special. Wish I could have met Grant too, I think he would have been an amazing person to meet
Growing up it was so great to see Grant Imahara, a fellow Asian, on TV using his technical prowess and having so much fun working and Mythbusting with all of you. Definitely helped me solidify my own career path. Now, as a more-or-less fully-realized mechanical engineer, I look back and appreciate his representation all the more.
My Grant story. I was walking to get coffee in the Mission of San Francisco. Grant was walking towards me on the sidewalk. He was with a group of friends. I didn't immediately recognized but I knew he looked familiar. I was racking my brain trying to figure out how I knew him. He must have saw me looking a bit confused. He gave me this huge smile and a nod that communicated, "Yeah, I'm Grant"
"I was told his impression of me involves a lot of drumming on the table" I really believe you can tell when someone's deeply missed, because their friends will drop into present tense talking about them without thinking.
I'm not one who gets broken up about celebrity deaths... I think everyone has different capacities for parasocial relationships... But Grant is the one that genuinely makes me sad when his name comes up. He seemed like such a good dude on every level, and everyone really seemed to love him. He left such a positive impression on the world and I hope I can leave the same positivity in my wake when I leave. You're dearly missed, Grant.
Grant Tory and Kari were the greatest trio of all time. Grant was such a beacon. From his first episode, he was a bright star who exuded a passion for everything he did. Such a tragedy. He was an amazing person in every way. You are lucky to have been a friend of his.
@@chriscollins550 Don't forget about the queen of heavy metal, Scottie Chapman, who was on the original three before Grant took over. To my knowledge though, she is still alive.
Grant and Kari were walk through DIA airport, some one was like “yo, myth busters!”. I look up, see Grant and Kari. I asked them if they could say Hi to my daughter who is into science and totally idolize you two. They were so awesome and nice and said “Hi Ariel, it’s Grant and Kari, glad you’re a fan, keep doing science!” My daughter was blown away.
My college (NMT) is closely tied with EMRTC and took part in helping blow up the cement mixer. I was so psyched when the school advertised the Mythbusters were going to visit our school for a presentation (I think it was at some point between 2011-2013). Like many of us I grew up on the show and was so pumped thinking we were going to see Adam and Jamie. However, shortly before doors opened I heard that it was actually Grant presenting solo… I honestly felt *bummed*. But it ended up being the best presentation by far that I would ever see at our school. I genuinely left that night being so grateful it was him, he blew us away with how cool he is as a person. His passion and accomplishments brought me so much inspiration in a time I really needed it. I’m bummed I’ll never see him in person again, but I cherish the little piece of my life where I did.
"I heard Grants impression of me involved a lot of drumming on tables." Yeah, I'd say it would be pretty spot on because even I didn't realize how much you do that until you mentioned this.
Grant had a light in him that came through in show. It was obvious he truly loved learning and loved the folks around him. He always brighten the screen when he was on.
Man hearing Adam talk about Grant reminds me of how I always talk about my bestfriend who passed away 3 years ago. Words can’t describe how much I miss him. Rest in peace Grant and to my buddy Andrew
I am not often affected by the loss of a famous person but losing Grant really got to me. He was very active on Twitter and it was always so nice to see him live his wonderful life with such passion and positivity. When that stopped so suddenly it was like a punch in the nose. He was a good man.
I don’t usually get strongly affected by the passing of people I have watched on television- but I was so saddened by the loss of Grant, whom I was a great fan of. as well as Steve Irwin several years earlier. Both of those kind of broke me for a while.
I'm tearing up in my office. But I'm glad. Years ago, crying while thinking about Grant meant devastation and disbelief and denial. Now I just... Miss all of the good he did. So so badly. This has helped tremendously.
Grant was my idol while growing up with the show. He was just funny and nerdy. He was amazing. And now that I’m an adult I hope he is resting very well.
I vividly remember the day Grant Imahara’s death was announced and how horribly it hit me. A piece of my childhood as an Asian-American STEM-loving kid. I grew up to become a veterinarian. I cried like a baby watching this video today. Thank you, Adam, for sharing some more memories of one of my idols.
I'm sorry for any grief or pain these stories bring up Adam. As someone who grew up watching Mythbusters, I really love hearing these stories of Grant Imahara. It's easy to see the genuine friendship and love you have for this man we all miss dearly. Thank you both for inspiring and entertaining us all. ❤️🇨🇦❤️
Rest in Peace, Grant. I just found out Grant is no longer with us. Grant inspired me even being in my 60's. I was always impressed with his intelligence, and since of humor, and just a good guy persona. I hope his legacy will carry forward to the STEM program founded by mom, and coworkers. The STEM students should be inspired by his example.
If you want to take a walk down memory lane, they auctioned off a bunch of stuff for the STEM organization made in Grant's honor. Adam shows off a bunch of it from props, to the blueprints, to busted cameras.
I saw Grant at Labyrinth of Jareth years ago, but I hadn’t watched Mythbusters in a while by then. I saw him participating in old timey line /ballroom dancing and he caught my attention because his face looked so familiar but I couldn’t place it. Turns out he caught on to my trying to place him (didnt realize I was staring 🤦🏽♀️) so when the lightbulb lit up, I must have made a face like 😮, because I saw him laughing at my reaction while trying to stay in step with the ballroom/line dancing. I laughed back so it was mutual laughter in acknowledgment. I didn’t approach because he was with friends and dancing, but one of my best memories ever. RIP Grant, you’re missed.
RIP Grant. His enthusiasm was intoxicating. Also, just wanted to say I love how you talk about you and Jamie. You have no problem saying he frustrated you - but at no point did you disrespect him in how you voiced those frustrations. It's clear you have a lot of respect for who he is, warts and all. I appreciate that level of grace and honesty, and the collaboration it can help unlock.
Poor Adam. In every video he’s always joyful. But in this you can see how thinking of Grant upset him. Doesn’t take a genius to know he must miss him dearly. RIP Grant.
I know nothing of Jamie other than what we have all seen, but one of my fav reactions from Jamie is when he gets nervous and gets that nervous laugh. You just know whatever they are building is producing something crazy.
It was so fun watching Jamie in the first Star Wars episode. I'm guessing he wasn't looking forward to physically doing it but probably didn't have much choice since Adam had an injured arm. It was hilarious when Jamie wore the Luke Skywalker costume. When actress Sophia Bush came out dressed as Princess Leia and sweetly asked Jamie to be her Luke, the bashful look on his face was incredible. It may have been the only time we saw him look like that. 😊
It never gets old hearing you speak about Grant Imahara. The love and friendship, is always crystal clear in your voice when you speak about him. Your body language, facial expression, and your eyes in particular, change when you talk about him, and it really shows how deep a respect and friendship the two of you shared. You light up when you speak about him, and that speaks volumes about him - he is someone who sparked joy in you, and so many others, and it is magical to experience him vicariously, both through watching reruns of Mythbusters, and through hearing yourself and the rest of the Mythbusters team reminiscing about him
"Why were we telling this story...oh, right." I felt that so much. I am known to go off on tangents and not being able to get back to the main story for...well, some time. Love hearing any stories about Grant
I used Grant's Jamie mustache impression the other day and it killed without me even trying. I'm so glad Adam is around to tell all these wonderful stories and keep people like Grant alive in our memories.
I recently started rewatching all the Mythbusters episodes on Max and couldn't wait to get to the Grant episodes. It was sad but rewarding seeing how much he added to an already satisfying program. Just today, my wife and I were remarking about how much we love and miss Grant. Seems fitting that this video posted today. Thanks so much for the Grant stories. I think I speak for all of us fans when I say that I can't get enough of them.
Love how he tells the story about Grant impersonating him "I'm told it involves a lot of hitting the desk." Then at 9:09, while explaining the bridge, he does it. Looks like Grant won that one after all!
I’ve been watching mythbusters again and I love that show soooo much. I’m a filmmaker and what you guys do inspires me. Grant is always a joy in every episode.
a fully exceptional person can bring you to tears just thinking about the concept of them for a moment. it's not often I get fully floored by the news of a media personality passing, but ... I reacted to the news of Mr. Imahara like I did a musical artists I really admired. Charlie Watts, David Bowie, Grant Imahara. they're all artists who nailed being themselves. we miss you, Grant. thanks. sorry to get weepy. exceptional people do that. it's a pretty amazing effect, someone I never knew, never even met. that's the Grant Imahara Effect.
As a person who speaks in other person's voices when I'm taking about them, I feel this deeply. It's not an impersonation, it's a reverent retelling. Even if it's not the best. It comes from deep watchung and knowing and loving.
The guy was a fucking real one. The incredible outpouring of love and respect after his passing for days on end just goes to show how much people cared about him. It's a good legacy to leave behind.
Being on the spectrum myself, i relate to jamies way of coping with conflict way too much, finding something that you can default to in a conflict with another person gives us a truckload of comfort and feeling save with that person. Realizing not all conflicts can be avoided is something i still struggle with even now at 30 years old and as a father of my toddler son.
Hopefully not overstepping or coming off as condesending here. My best advice for dealing with children is to remember that their brains are not fully developed. Yeah I get thats a silly thing to say to a parent but it always helps me when I am struggling around children. Remembering that they dont fully understand their actions or have the ability to cope like an adult. But I am fully on board with not liking things without solutions. Those are the worst. Especially when they involve someone you care about. I promise your kid is going to do awesome with such a thoughtful Dad (Allthough hopefully you allready knew that!)
This is such insane timing, I was literally thinking about Grant yesterday and this came up in my feed. Thank you Adam for sharing these anecdotes, it is heartwarming to see how you light up when retelling these stories. Grant was clearly an excellent human being.
I'm pretty sure Mythbusters was a decent factor in my eldest son becoming a mechatronic Engineer. When free-to-air TV was a relevant thing (today not so much), we as a family lapped up everything from Grand Designs to Holmes on Homes, with Mythbusters, Battlebots, and so many others in-between. Cheers Adam, $0.02 from Tasmania.
I was lucky enough to see Grant give a talk at my university. Dream come true, as Mythbusters was a BIG part of my childhood. And at the end of it, he teased that he was working on something big with Disney. Sure enough, about 6 months later, they revealed their stunt performer robots. So now everytime I see a video of Spiderman flying over Avenger Campus, I think of Grant ❤
I was fortunate to have met Grant when he was at a convention in Sydney that I was working at, and I remember that he was just such a sweet, lovely person.
I remember pitching FIRST robotics to Grant through Myspace when I was in high school. I could've easily seen it on his page but I was too impatient to check and when I read his reply as a kid, I was thoroughly embarrassed and never told anyone. As an adult, I see it as an experience where I got a reply from someone I truly looked up to. RIP Grant! Thank you for inspiring so many of us!
I respect the attitude you mentioned Jamie carries towards wanting to prevent future conflict. I work really hard to do the same. Especially for those we spend most of our time with, like coworkers and family, it's important to me that we all maintain composure and have that mutual respect for each other regardless of agreement/disagreement. For me personally, I find getting hot with someone about anything just ruins the rest of my day and I have a tendency to ruminate on that for too long. And honestly, as an aircraft mechanic, it's really important we have adequate rapport with each other to be able to do our jobs to the level at which they must be done. Not a single soul deserves harm just because two A&Ps couldn't get along. Not a one.
I was so shook when he died. His presence was so kind gentle and generous. He just was always happy and brought that happiness to others. I really do think Dumbeldore is right. “Do not pity the dead. Pity the living, and. Above all, those who live without love.” I really feel that says it all. Still hurts though. These past few years. We have seen so much death, pain, and suffering. We need people like you in our lives Adam. Seriously there absolutely has to be balance. And you provide that balance. ❤
There is only two celebrities whose passing have ever affected me and Grant's was one of them. I grew up watching MythBusters and he was far and away my favorite cast member on the show. It was so inspiring watching the things he'd make and what he'd accomplish with just his brain and engineering skills. He was humble, and easy to like to boot. There is probably a whole generation of engineers who got their first inspiration as a kid watching him. I ended up a developer myself, but even I can look back and say watching Grant had a big eventual impact on me going for a STEM career.
RIP, Grant. We previous fans of Mythbusters will always remember you. Take comfort from the fact that those episodes with him in it are out there, on TV, still.
I really appreciate that you and Jamie, despite your differences, were always able to come to an agreement and admit your flaws in a process or plan. It's a very healthy and professional relationship that others should follow.
I have seen every Mythbusters episode Grant was in and loved his... Quirks, shall we say. But when I really got into BattleBots, and saw his impact on the sport, especially when they mourned his loss, I felt I saw the full side of Grant. I wish I could have met him. RIP Grant! You'll always have place in the heart of this proud nerd!
I miss talking to Grant on RPF. When he got excited about something, you just couldn't help get excited too. I remember going back and forth with him about how BB-8 worked (he nailed it of course 😂). Miss you man.
Grant left behind such an incredible legacy. From all the amazing things I've heard about him as a person, I only wish I could have met him. Rest in peace, Grant. You're so dearly missed, and will never be forgotten.
Grant stories are so fun and I miss him, he was definitely one of my favourites. But the Jamie and Adam dynamic was always my favourite and it's so interesting to hear these stories in detail years later after the fact.
I was lucky enough to meet Grant like 12 years ago in college and speak with him for a few minutes after he presented something. Honestly I can't remember what the presentation was about but Grant's humor and kindness still sticks with me today. He was inspirational on a fundamental level. One of the greats 😎
Grant had a profound impact on me growing up and is a big reason I am the person I am today. My biggest regret is not being able to thank him for his inspiration in person.
Grant Imahara might be gone, but he's left so many positive memories in nearly everyone he touched, and left behind a legacy of inspiring so many. All these comments and stories are a testament, tangible proof, of the positive effects he left behind
I have a vision for developing power wheelchairs into workhorses, for snow ploughing, mowing, street cleaning, fork lifting, etc. I want to give people like me more job options that leverage their disability instead of working despite it. I always planned on getting everything I have together and then approaching Grant to see if he could help or knew someone who would. I also just wanted to meet the man for obvious reasons. I was devastated when he passed, it felt like an admonishment of my dreams. I really respected Grant and everyone who got to meet him shares so much gratitude and getting blessed to know the man. What a huge loss for the maker community.
I can just imagine Jamie's slightly-dumbstruck expression, upon realizing what Adam had just mentally unpacked for him in that moment... 🤣 It was also probably the shock which prevented an apology, as well as undoubtedly a bit of him thinking an apology was _implied_ through his admission of that being what happened. 😊 And RIP Grant ❤ But, that was a great first story!
I remember watching Battle Bots with my dad and brother, long before I knew about Grant and Adam/Jamie & Crew. I was always so blown away with his work, before I knew of his work, really. Then when Mythbusters came out I was hooked, didn't even know Grant was the creater of Deadblow at the time, he was and is one of my favorites from MB, not counting Adam & Jamie. Was a sad day when Grant left this world. But, the world is a better place because he was in it. ❤RIP Legend.
I met Grant a couple of times at Robogames. He took the time to take pictures with my kids. He was gentle and patient with them. I always remembered that.
That first story is adorable. I know it's a little weird to say that about grown adults, but I don't know how else to say it. He seems like he was such a positive influence on those around him.
"A thing is not beautiful because it lasts". No one is promised a long life. But it sounds like the man chose to live in a way that the quality of his life was not determined by the length of it. We need more people like this. RIP ❤

@@InsideOfMyOwnMind Jamie was a pretty big introvert, still is today. He just wants to build cool things and not get involved with cameras or social media
Grant is the only mythbuster I’ve been fortunate enough to met in person. I was maybe 14 or so at the time.
Oh! Where did you meet him?
Same here! He gave a talk at my undergrad university and I was so lucky to meet and talk with him for a few minutes afterwards
I got to meet Kari, Grant, and Tore at Dragon*Con in 07
@@edwardrhoades6957me too! Got signed autographs from all three.
God, I miss him. He was so much fun to watch as a kid growing up with Mythbusters.
😢 I'm old. I feel like the show was on yesterday.
It was great to watch, though, even as a child.
He was also a great Spock on Star Trek Continues
Are you fucking kidding? @@mikcnmvedmsfonoteka
@@mikcnmvedmsfonoteka Was he Spock, though?
It's been a while but, I thought he played Sulu.
Pretty grand.
"I was told his impression of me involves a lot of drumming on the table"
I really believe you can tell when someone's deeply missed, because their friends will drop into present tense talking about them without thinking.
You are missing one from the original three, Jessi Combs who also is sadly missed.
Very true! I agree completely!@@chriscollins550
I'd put them second behind Clarkson, Hammond and May but they were great.
@@chriscollins550 Don't forget about the queen of heavy metal, Scottie Chapman, who was on the original three before Grant took over. To my knowledge though, she is still alive.
@@Apophis324 Scottie is alive and works as a dentist
When he drummed I didn’t even register that Adam was doing the impression for the first couple seconds.
Grant and Jesse Combs are some of the brightest modern minds taken too soon and the most wholesome people to boot
The Albert Bridge in London UK still has a sign saying, “ ALL TROOPS MUST BREAK STEP WHEN MARCHING OVER THIS BRIDGE”.
Grant had a light in him that came through in show. It was obvious he truly loved learning and loved the folks around him. He always brighten the screen when he was on.
I still follow his gf/fiance on IG, and she sometimes shares posts remembering him, still. He clearly was loving, and was (and still is) loved.
Man hearing Adam talk about Grant reminds me of how I always talk about my bestfriend who passed away 3 years ago. Words can’t describe how much I miss him. Rest in peace Grant and to my buddy Andrew
RIP Grant. He will be forever missed but he left us with so many great moments
I'll never forget when Grant showed us the model shop during take-your-daughter-to-work-day. His passion was so clear to me even as a kid.
Grant was a special dude, honest, reliable and most of all humble. Miss him heaps 😢 The threesome on mythbusters simply the best.🎉
What is grief but love persevering? I think Adam would agree.
We'll never forget Grant. He had this great light about him. You can tell he was a beautiful soul.. Rest in Paradise Grant🫶🏼
Man, I love how much Adam and the entire team love Grant. RIP, man.
You light up when you speak about him, and that speaks volumes about him - he is someone who sparked joy in you, and so many others, and it is magical to experience him vicariously, both through watching reruns of Mythbusters, and through hearing yourself and the rest of the Mythbusters team reminiscing about him
You can hear in Adam's voice how much Grant meant to Adam, and how much of an amazing person he was.
I love that Anthony Daniels and Ray Park are Adam’s idea of movie stars.
Grant was simply irreplaceable. Truly a joy to watch and to learn from.
Grant is my personal hero, his passing left a hole in our collective hearts.
Grant always was one of my absolute favorite parts on MythBusters, he gave me so much joy when I was growing up. RIP
Your channel popped up in my suggested feed and as a fan of Mythbusters I am geeked to find it! Rest in Peace Grant 🤘
I never get tired of hearing the Grant stories.❤
This world never deserved Grant Imahara, but it needed(s) him intensely.
I'm not going to lie. I got teary eyed when I saw the title of this video. Grant, you will be missed dearly 😢 RIP
Grant was a very kind person. I was lucky enough to meet and hang with him at the RPF Party, Munson’s Parties and at SDCC.
I forgot how much I love Adam's impression of Jamie.
It just goes to show you how far just being a genuinely nice guy gets you.
Man ... mechatronic engineer is the coolest sounding job not gonna lie.
What a tremendous loss that is still felt and always will be.
I was fortunate to have met Grant when he was at a convention in Sydney that I was working at, and I remember that he was just such a sweet, lovely person.
He sounds like the best person… sad I didn’t get to meet him. Rest easy Grant.
Grant had the best sense of humor EVER .... & great stories Adam 👍😁😘😘
Still miss Grant, and I never even met him. His kindness, talent and passion was just so obvious, effortless and genuine.
In Jamie’s defence, those booted actuators were super cute and I’m glad we got to see them, even if they didn’t work.
I luckily got to meet Grant at a FIRST Robotics competition. What an amazing passionate guy. He is an inspiration for many.
Grant's team was always one of my favorite part of mythbusters. Its really cool to see how much respect and love Adam has for him
I know it’s hard to share these stories about Grant but it really helps us process losing him. It’s good to remember.
Man this still gets me, rest in piece Grant. You were a part of what got me into stem.
I was lucky enough to meet Grant like 12 years ago in college and speak with him for a few minutes after he presented something. Honestly I can't remember what the presentation was about but Grant's humor and kindness still sticks with me today. He was inspirational on a fundamental level. One of the greats 😎
Grant, Tory, Kary, Adam and Jamie were a huge part of my childhood growing up in eastern Europe. RIP Grant
Love you grant we miss you everyday. Take your time Adam
It was also probably the shock which prevented an apology, as well as undoubtedly a bit of him thinking an apology was _implied_ through his admission of that being what happened. 😊
And RIP Grant ❤
But, that was a great first story!
❤RIP Legend.
thank you for those fantastic stories of Grant! RIP
Loved him and miss him. He was like a personal friend who popped by my house to visit every week via TV. A great loss to us all😢
Always smiling. He seem to go that extra mile. Not only a star on mythbusters just look up late at night he’s still shining light on us. Rip
Thank you for sharing the stories, 😂 Savage Stories! ❤ Thank you for the Subscription gift!👍😎
Grant is probably one of the reasons I personally feel fantastic being a nerd!
Damn it, Mr. Savage... it made me cry a bit when you choked up.
Dammit Adam's making me cry on a weekday morning again! :D Miss Grant and his enthusiasm and smile.
"A thing is not beautiful because it lasts". No one is promised a long life. But it sounds like the man chose to live in a way that the quality of his life was not determined by the length of it. We need more people like this. RIP ❤
