Adam is a good example of someone who has harnessed his ADD powers for good--I mean that in a positive sense. Finding this channel, years ago, even Jamie was still making appearances, made me squee with joy, I can have your enthusiasm and knowledge on demand any time I want. Even though as a young adult I curse like a sailor, I appreciate you keeping it clean on TV because I was one of those kids who watched Mythbusters (and my parents were semi strict with swear words). It was my favorite show growing up.
@@Seruphin you’re 100% right about it being Danielle Tori and Grant’s project, but I remember being really shocked cause Adam looked genuinely upset with them about it not being correct. Lol Do you remember what they did wrong?
Would absolutely love to see an episode of Tested with Jamie or Kari or even Tory. Not sure what you would do with them, just really enjoyed seeing the mesh of personalities together.
My wife and I went to MythBusters Live in Portland, and really enjoyed it. At one point Adam laid on a bed on names and pretty much immediately yelled "SHIT!" and then looked shocked and said "This is a family show!", easily the funniest part of the show.
Adam Savage could give a master class on how to construct a TV show - over and above the actual engineering that might go into the segments, the though process on how to create and the perspective he shared here is truly amazing to listen to. Thanks so much for posting!
When I see how Adam talks about Mythbusters, I can tell that he really does miss doing that show. I know they say they will never work together again, but I think Adam would be the most likely one to be interested in doing something with Jame, even if it was just a "one time" deal. I really don't know if Jamie would be up to it though. I have only seen a handful of videos from after Mythbusters ended where he even mentions the show, but he is hard to read and I can not tell if that is something he might enjoy doing even if it is only a "one time thing" .One thing is for certain, if they did, I'd watch it.
Because they have such similar experience and profession, but the disagree in a normally very mature way, I've thought it would be cool to pit their problem solving skills against eachother in fun ways. They sort of did this on the show, they would each focus on a different route to solve the same problem, and mash something together at the end. Maybe they could each direct seperate teams of guests, competing in some engineering challenge. Like each episode a different challenge. Example, build a combat robot in 1 day, using only hammers as bot weapons, and clear acrylic for armor/structure. Or, which team can build the best human powered water pumping device. Or human powered electrical generator. Most seaworthy duct tape boat. Most indestructible briefcase. Longest Rube Goldberg machine. Which team can build the best robot arm out of only wood and rope, to perform tasks. Losing creations are sent off cement truck style at the end of each episode.
I've heard Adam said once that the two of them, Adam and Jamie, don't like each other very much, but they still work together very well. I feel that describes a maturity in both of them which managed to come through when the show was being presented.
As a video pro, I want to complain about your focus but Adam, your persona and amazing stories draw me in to the extent that I could care less about your autofocus. I'm beyond happy that you make these videos and please don't stop until you die. And damn it, never die.
Some of the best tv memories I have are from watching Mythbusters with my family. Every episode, every laugh, every failed myth, they were all great no matter what happened. You and Jamie, Grant, Tory and Kari had such a great working relationship from what we could see every week. It was the most magical hour of television to ever grace the screen.
I love two things about this. One is that it's pretty cool hearing about the production process like this. Lots of shows do bonus episodes and specials where they show some behind the scenes stuff, but it's cool to hear about some of the stuff that goes on without any cameras at all, especially because a lot of these things will vary from show to show. The other thing is that I just think it's a bit interesting that Asam is one of the few people to turn a TV career into a UA-cam career, when most people go the other way. Even other celebrities that have delved into UA-cam don't usually seem to approach it like him/you (depending on who's reading). For most it's like Twitter or Facebook, an additional way to interact with their fans and stay relevant, but Adam had basically gone full UA-camr. At the same time though, I feel like if I were to predict ten years ago which TV names would wind up being big on UA-cam, Adam Savage would definitely be high on the list. He's always seemed like someone who would really flourish under this kind of platform, with more creative freedom and fewer limitations than network TV. I also appreciate the effort to keep your content kid friendly.
I remember the Jaws myth (shooting a dive cylinder to make it explode), and how the FBI sent someone to watch and learn, since someone could conceivably use something like that for terrorist purposes. Honestly, I do “get” you after watching this. Inventing more than a program and dealing with people. Listening. Learning. Doing. Wow. Best show you’ve ever done.
Adam's unending, yet endlessly interesting tangents, keep reminding me of when my grandpa told me stories about the aftermath of the Civil War and how life was back in his age... like, he would start telling you about how his father cared for his cows, and end up telling you about how he'd have lunch with the Romanis whenever they'd set up camp nearby xD
I have been watching you sense I was 12. I am now 28. You basically supplied my education outside of school, and provided me with an edge of knowledge that I believe help make me who I am today. Thank you ! Mr savage.

Adam I really love how humble you are about the experiences you had with Discovery and your production team. Also, as a fellow curser I commiserate in the struggle of communication in a public setting.
I miss seeing your MB show. I loved seeing Buster dropped at Mare Island. It brought back many memories since I was stationed there back in 1976 in the Navy. Being in CT my wife bought me tickets to your show in Hartford CT and my 2 boys went, because they loved your show as well. Because of your show my 2 boys love engineering. My oldest is a mechanical engineer working in the aerospace industry and my younger son is a freshman and wants to be a mechanical engineer as well. I too was into Broadcasting for the major sports broadcast company in CT being an Electrical/Broadcasting engineer and still mentor Robotics for our local high school, now that I'm retired. Your show was awesome and a blast! I miss it and remembered your demonstration of serial and parallel data transfer with your Mona Lisa painting on stage. That is none forgettable. Be well and stay safe.
Myth Busters did something that is sad absent in our public school system; Your crews showed inquiring minds how to think through the details of whatever caught our attention. You taught us how to to "think". And you, Adam continue to do so on the social media you release. Thank You.
Adam , lets be real for a minute. You gotta bring mythbusters back. I understand it wont be exactly the way it was but the show was SO good in SO many ways and I don't know why it ended but it needs to come back. I miss it. You miss it. Everyone here misses it. What are we doing if were not doing what we love?
Working the last 30 years for a large(est) municipality in the Bay Area, the last 12 years in a department that issues certain types of permits, the relationship you had to acquire these permits in short order, while going through proper procedures, those aforementioned hoops, is astounding. Kudos to producer Linda cuz that aint easy...Its not out of the question, and strong relationships that usually take a while to cultivate and harvest are KEY! You were blessed.
I miss Mythbusters. I'd love to see Jamie and Adam just chatting about it on this channel sometime, though I fear Jamie has no interest in it. Thanks for the wonderful answers and all the fun and knowledge you've pass on Adam!
What you said about the relationship with the bomb squad, cops, property owners and the other... that rings so true with independent film makers as well. Just showing up and gorilla style filming can make you enemies and not welcome to other locations. Building those relationships makes the difference between being a nuisance and being welcome back. I know some adults who need to learn that lesson because it's not just the high school creators and film school kids making that mistake and making it harder for the rest of us to work.
The mental joy of recognizing and solving things as they arise is sublime . It exists in so many forms including, I can report, driver instructing. Probably small-acre farming. Sports. Etc.... .
I guess you've been in television too long when you said story meetings... I understood exactly what you meant, and exactly why those meetings are *never* recorded before you even laid it out on camera!
Another reason Cops and Firefighters loved you guys...boredom. Most careers are 20-25 years of routine boredom spiced up by a (hopefully) few moments of terror and heartbreak. Having an interesting production visit and invite you, however tangentially, to participate is an antidote to boredom and greatly appreciated.
“...doing something as simple as dumping ten gallons of vegetable oil on the ground...” You know, something we all do on a weekly, if not daily, basis. :P. Love you Adam, never change.
@David Shi I suspect it was the James Bond car episode. They subbed in vegetable oil for the more traditional oil slick to see if it could make a car spin out.
The sequence around 14:00 reminds me of an old show biz cliche I learned in college: "Don't want it now, want it Thursday. Don't want it good, want it Thursday." Usually produces results "good enough." And a useful guideline for anybody who HAS TO meet a deadline.
I love that he tells us that he wishes he could have let us see the writers room process... then proceeds to go full "writers room anecdote" at Fixit Tony's user name.
I was an army engineer and in AIT we were introduced to time fuse with bodily injury risk. The DI would burn a length of fuse from a spool and time it for all of us to witness. Then cut the fuse lengths depending on an assigned position on the explosive range. The DI would individually supervise everyone crimping blasting caps, inverting it into a stick of tnt and once everyone was set, each of us ignited our fuse and set the tent at our feet. We weren’t allowed to move until everyone ignited their fuse then we orderly walked off the range. Within 10 minutes each stick blew up within moments of each other
I could listen to you tell stories all day long. Come over for dinner, we'll have a few drinks, a few laughs. Some celebrities you feel like you know, but you know in reality it is just bs. I could totally see myself saying "hey, this is my friend Adam" like we have hung out for years.
The 12 days per episode and the quality that came from it is why Mythbusters with stands the test of time. You can watch an episode from nearly 20 years ago and still enjoy it (and learn from it) -- even ones that you've seen over and over again because you can always think of new ways that the methodology improves. It's hard to say that about any other unscripted show on these channels.
Adam as someone who just bought a 2015 Fiat 500c Pop I can't tell you how much relief you just gave me. I'm still taking that warranty renewal they offered just in case though.
My dad, a safety engineer before he retired, used the hot water heater episode in some of his training sessions (and with some of his more stubborn clients) after I made him watch it. It managed to surprise people every single time. Good memories.
As a fellow person who paces around the room waving arms and shouting/cussing about new exciting ideas during brainstorming sessions; I knew exactly what you meant by, "I was the reason."
I didn't realise me and Adam had the same taste in cars. I used to own a 1980 124 spider and I currently own a 2013 abarth 500. Both the best cars I ever owned.
You will notice his nature he is talking about when Simone pulls a dirty joke or a curse word. Adam doesn't show a trace of a negative reaction while some people around are shocked.
I grew up on Mythbusters. Thank you for all the memories Adam! I miss you Jamie and all the gang making me laugh and teaching me all kinds of cool and wacky things, and most of all, the explosions.
This episode definitely explains why you would show up to projects on episodes half way through and have a whole new outlook and energy, lol Also, it's nice to see someone explain science like an art

@@1FatLittleMonkey We like to blow stuff up, but fix stuff... that would be an extra show they could do, taking broken things and just put everything into making them work again.
That would have been cool to see the genuine guts and behind the scenes of "how" the show was made because part of the charm of the show was this feeling like it was just you two (or you 5) running things, filming like you didn't have a massive crew. It made the show more personal. But yes, having an episode that pulled back the curtain would have been really educational for your audience which was what the show was all about.
HI Adam. I just wanted to say, that while Mythbusters was great, I have watched far more screen time of you since discovering Tested than I ever did of MB.
You'll never see this Adam but I grew up to Mythbusters and you and Jamie are the reason I decided to join the film industry. Still just starting my career as a camera operator but I've been doing it for 8 years now. Even now I use so many of the tricks I've learned over the years on Tested
It is a pleasure to see the independent content from someone who is so successful with a similar mind and social mannerisms that I have and many people don't understand. I accidentally take over the meetings too and for some reason it consistently leads to promotions but less friends. Anyway. I hope you remember coming to Loveland Colorado, you said that it was the largest crowd you've had on your tour. I spent all of the money I had left to get good seats. I had nothing less than a smile on my face from ear to ear as you jogged past me to get a volunteer. I don't remember what you said exactly so I'm paraphrasing here, as you jogged past you said something like, "let's get someone from the cheap seats, they paid to be here too" and you physically lifted someone out of the stands at the very end of the building. My smile turned into tears of joy. I would give almost anything to share caves with you and do a one day build.
I know a Deputy who applied to go to Bomb Squad school. Just because he applied, he was put on the infamous No-Fly-List and is being spied on by the US government. Isn't that shameful of them? Point is, if anyone reading is interested in trying to go for that job, please be really careful!
One thing Adam didn't mention about getting along with bomb squads... Bomb techs love to make things go boom in a safe environment. Failing making things go boom, they love to watch other people make things go boom when done safely. Asking the bomb squad to be present and supervise would be icing on the cake. As a former bomb tech, I would equate that to a Physicist being invited to Cern.
I think part of the good relationships is that you were always doing something interesting. At my job as a contract engineer, if you came to my colleagues with a run-of-the-mill issue (pipe spec), you got a standard response. If you came in with a unique challenge and a story (vehicle mounted high airflow dust reduction) you had the person wanting to work on that issue....even if it literally wasn't their job. Blowing up cement trucks is always going to be more interesting than testing the TNT equivalency of the next standard explosive; and you always had something interesting.
@Hudson Hamman and reminding user of it's presence by making a sound is the best way to capture more details. I will go with message notification, which was delayed from door alarm because it was a message form delivery company that arrived with a delay on Adam's phone/email...
Fix it again, Tony! I had a 81 Alfa Romeo Spider 2000 GT Veloce. It had the 2.0 Fiat twin cam with dual Webber side draft carbs. It sounded great, and was a lot of fun to drive. My friends kind of made fun and called me 006 (it was silver). Edit: dunno if I needed to, but I did drive it like I was angry at it.

Ya Grant had a big role on that team..... Don't think it could have been the same with out him.. Tho all the main cast had key roles.. The new faces just never seamed to have the same click...
I always figured the bomb squad bros loved you so much was the same reason I loved the show so much. If it doesn't blow up...then you _make_ it blow up.
So true. They didn't let us down! I wonder just how many tons of explosives were detonated over the production of Mythbusters?
@@SplendidFellow You should mention that on his twitter, or some other platform. That would be really cool to find out!
@@SplendidFellow i think they could probably do a few more anfo cement truck explosion while packing it to the top with the amount of explosives... That probably would be the largest non-nuke explosion if put together... (IIRC the largest non-nuke explosion in military was the one in WWII Britain in this munition dump/ storage)
@@PrograErrorI thought the largest was the Halifax harbour explosion in WWI.
Mythbusters was probably one of the most uniquely brilliant and inspiring TV shows that has ever and will ever be brought to audiences.
Thanks for the shoutout, Adam! We appreciate the love.
If you guys don't hook the man up with one of the new(er) 124 Spiders so we can watch him take delivery of it, you're doing it wrong!
Actually, just send it to me. I'll make sure it gets to him, after a nice cross-country shakedown drive ; )
I've cried during every episode of the last season of Mythbusters, culminating in watching the last episode through tears in my eyes almost the entire time. Granted, I've had a smile on my face too. Thank you, you've made my childhood amazing, you've taught me to understand and not to fear. Finding this channel, years ago, even Jamie was still making appearances, made me squee with joy, I can have your enthusiasm and knowledge on demand any time I want. The whole team of Mythbusters and Tested is doing a great service to so many lives around the world, thank you!
Even though as a young adult I curse like a sailor, I appreciate you keeping it clean on TV because I was one of those kids who watched Mythbusters (and my parents were semi strict with swear words). It was my favorite show growing up.
I like how he proceeds to go on a tangent about FIATs after explaining his tendency to go on tangents in discussions
I thought he was going to mention “does a rolling stone collect moss” episode. That was like 6 months wasted...... if I’m remembering correctly.
You´d think you would be able to interview like a dozen people in less time, musicians or not.
Yeah, if I recall that was more Grant, Kari, Tori project
@@nilsschenkel7149 God.. damn.
@@Seruphin you’re 100% right about it being Danielle Tori and Grant’s project, but I remember being really shocked cause Adam looked genuinely upset with them about it not being correct. Lol Do you remember what they did wrong?
Can someone fill me in on what happened?
Would absolutely love to see an episode of Tested with Jamie or Kari or even Tory. Not sure what you would do with them, just really enjoyed seeing the mesh of personalities together.
in another video I forget one he said he doubted he'd ever work with Jamie again
All this talk of MythBusters made me remember the passing of Grant. RIP Grant
Rip grant, he was taken far too soon
ouch....indeed
Adam could easily sub in for Christopher Lloyd in a remake of the back to the future trilogy.
I remember the Jaws myth (shooting a dive cylinder to make it explode), and how the FBI sent someone to watch and learn, since someone could conceivably use something like that for terrorist purposes. I totally get how law enforcement would take a keen interest in these types of episode, and want to help make them happen.
Adam as Doc Brown and Tom Holland as Marty Mc Fly
Bttf 4 have we finally go to far 4 $ lol
@@AlarahCA No remake. Please do not ever mention it again. To speak of such things is a curse.
I could listen to Adam for hours.
11:20 You also very memorably rebuked any attempt at manufactured drama.
Which was very inspiring to see and hear about not too long after.
This reminds me of something my grandpa has always engrained into my brain while growing up: “A job’s never done until everything’s cleaned up.”
Can you imagine the impact you had if 5 years later people still ask you questions about it.
I NEED a complete series dvd or bluray of mythbusters! I dont have money for premium pizza, but i would buy that!
You are not alone at wanting a blu-ray set of the complete show
With commentaries!
YES I WOULD BUY FOR LIKE $500
I want it on DVD, but for reasons unknown Discovery won't take our money!
I believe Hulu has the complete series but I still want them on bluray to
I have been watching you sense I was 12. I am now 28. You basically supplied my education outside of school, and provided me with an edge of knowledge that I believe help make me who I am today. Thank you ! Mr savage.
I just imagine how fun for you must have been the collaborations with Simone Giertz! Apart for her fantastic building skills she swears so creatively!
hey Adam my name is Wyatt I've been living in California all my life i'm 21 years old now and i still love what you did and what you do. the hours of entertainment and inspiration I've gotten from watching you guys is amazing and I'm grateful for it. thank you Adam and Jamie ... and RIP grant i cried my eyes out when i heard what happen. ♥

mythbusters was my favorite show growing and shaped so much about how i view the world and who i am as a person.
I spent my summers off from school watching every episode!
Man, Adam. The energy you bring to the things you care about is so genuine and so infectiously delightful. It's a joy to see you do what you do and to hear how you've done it, and you make the days of the world better just by being in them. Thank you for everything.
Makes me wish for a "Mythbusters: After-hours!"
It's unlikely that you'll ever see this, but I just want you to know that, more than two years after posting, fans are still finding and loving these videos. Thanks for sharing: It's really interesting stuff.
Adam I really love how humble you are about the experiences you had with Discovery and your production team. Also, as a fellow curser I commiserate in the struggle of communication in a public setting.
Yup... I miss the explosions. If a little C-4 is good, more must be better.
I believe there are no bad words just words used badly.

One word I would use to describe Adam based on this channel: personable.
savage :P
Currently rebuilding my grandpas '85 fiat spider 124 for the second time, love the car and soo happy to find out Adam loved his too.
Mythbusters made learning and being smart cool. When I was a kid in the 70's and 80's, smart was nerdy and got me beat up and ridiculed.
"Left every location better than we found it" I feel a Purple Teifling is smiling down on Adam at this time.
Bidet!
The mental joy of recognizing and solving things as they arise is sublime . It exists in so many forms including, I can report, driver instructing. Probably small-acre farming. Sports. Etc....
.
I could literally listen to these myth busters stories all day.
Man do I miss the Mythbusters. I’m so glad that Adam does this...that enthusiasm never goes away!
“...doing something as simple as dumping ten gallons of vegetable oil on the ground...”
You know, something we all do on a weekly, if not daily, basis. :P. Love you Adam, never change.
I'm trying to remember, which episode did they do this?
@@davidshi451 I don't recall either, but I have a suspicion that the flaming cooking oil myth had quite a lot of potential spillage.

@@SplendidFellow Umm that's not true.
I can't imagine Adam cursing. Just suddenly tossing out an F-bomb. Funniest thing I can think about right now lol
Thanks for graciously answering questions about "your former job". The show was big and important, and folks like to hear the details from off-camera.
That was my thought as well. One of the best experiences as an expert is finding something new and fun to apply your expertise to.
Did Adam's Alexa turn on after he said "leave a bomb somewhere" 5:24. Queue tin foil hats. :P
no, it was alerting him that his package was just delivered, which he had just mentioned when his motion detector went off
@Hudson Hamman and reminding user of it's presence by making a sound is the best way to capture more details. I will go with message notification, which was delayed from door alarm because it was a message form delivery company that arrived with a delay on Adam's phone/email...
