It almost sounds like Jeff the Killer lived in the 1950's or something. Kids out in the backyard playing cowboys and indians, the stereotypical james bond bad guy with his 2 side kicks. Just, so very vintage!

Yeah, I noticed that 1950s aesthetic throughout as well. The way the characters speak to one another, their names (minus Liu), the Stand By Me-esque gang of boys with knives. I don't think it was intended at all though because there were a number of things that also did not stick out as stereotypically 50s, such as the skateboards and hoodie.
@@jeffrey1954 idk, man, hoodies have been around for a surprisingly long time, not entirely sure about skateboards, though.
Honestly, I didn’t find it that far fetched for 12-year-old degenerate bullies to carry knives or even their father’s gun, considering it’s not completely unheard of, especially in fiction (Stephen King’s IT).
I think that's just a really common trope in media about kids/teenagers. You have the ring leader and their 2-4 jerk friends antagonizing the main character.
Cowboys and indians is kinda 50's, but I still played it a bit when I was a kid (I think the last time I played would be like 2006-2007)
@@therealCrazyJake Skateboarding did exist in the 50's, but it didn't really blow up until the late 70's & early 80's, and the boards couldn't really be popped up. All of the tricks people were preforming are like manuals & handstands & stuff.

I am pretty sure this was the first big, successful trollfic in the CreepyPasta genre. It's the My Immortal of horror: People take it seriously despite being constructed entirely out of well worn red flags.
Either way, there's a bunch of really good, creative works out there that can be rather unsettling, and also some much more genuine trash. Hope this doesn't put Nyx or anyone off a few quick reads by negative association.

I remember as a kid Abandoned By Disney scared the fuck out of me. I think there was a reading of it on UA-cam. As a then horror virgin, the sound design the guy put together for it really unnerved me

Funny enough, you actually got Liu's name right the first time. It's "Loo", like Liu Kang from Mortal Kombat. Dunno why Jeff's brother has an Asian name but I guess it can imply cool things about his family that aren't really that common.

The SyFy channel once had a series called Channel Zero, an anthology horror series which adapts a creepypasta per season. I’ve only watched the first season (which covers Candle Cove), so I can’t say much about the rest of the series, but I was really impressed with the quality of the show, and it apparently got better with each season.
Unfortunately, it’s been canceled recently after only four seasons. But if you ever get the chance, I’d highly recommend checking it out! It seems like it would fit with this channel quite well

I had never read or heard this story in it's entirety before, but I have heard Jenny Nicholson read a fanfic and wow that fanfic was only like 40% transformative content while the rest was just straight up ripping off the original story word-by-word.

You know, it’s been a while since I’ve thought about this side of the internet, but upon hearing you read this, I have to point out that, while awful and horrifically cookie cutter, this is definitely one of the better written creepypastas. Kinda want there to be more of these just to see you get to the kind of stories where you’ll be beside yourself after every sentence... if you ever get the inclination, look up ones based on/related to video games
