You look so happy and confident in this video! Yay!
nearly senior citizen yeta gamer
Omg that hairstyle is so pretty on you!
yeah i'm jelly :(
liking the sexy librarian look
This was great! I had zero intention of seeing this movie, but after watching your video I am genuinely interested now. Thank you!
Had to wait until I saw it last night to watch this video. I was stunned by how good it was! Slasher isn't usually my thing but I watched both the original and then this sequel back to back and it was one hell of an experience.
I'm sure you're aware of it already but! Song Exploder did an interview w John carpenter & co where they talked about making the score for the new movie. It's just a short little episode but it's a good listen!
Michael Meyers drinking out of a pokemon mug
Hmm... Something doesnt seem right.

Here's what I kept thinking when I watched this video:
May you are just as witty and articulate as ever, you are so much like the person you were when I subbed more than a year ago. Except here's one thing, you look so much happier and I cannot say how happy that makes me in turn. I giggle at your smile, at the childlike glee in your eyes. I'm so glad you could find that level of comfort and happiness in your life. May it stay forever.
I thought the exact same thing. So wonderful to see.
It's a rare, beautiful, inspirational joy that has (as of the tearjerker of a video posted a couple weeks ago) truly changed how I look back at my awkwardly traumatic teen years and now embrace that difficult time and celebrate my uniqueness instead of letting the people who alienated and attacked me live on in my daily thoughts (and actions, wtf).
Needless to say, Halloween is my new mantra when i catch myself irrationally responding to situations from the familiar mindset of the victim, and instead prop myself up knowing i can just as well love what makes me Me.. It sets the stage for the exact authentic and contagious happiness that May shares with us. The world needs as much of that as possible.. it can be dark and evil. Doesnt mean we have to be though.. Transmutation at its finest. Lead into fabulous gold (AND flawless hair in May's case!)
"The second that some big, stupid, unpredictable, terrible thing happens to you, your life now lives in the constant context of that. And you don't get to move on. And you have to fight that forever."
I know this probably doesn't mean anything to you, but having just myself had a big, stupid, unpredictable, terrible thing happen to me this year, and having to deal with my life now existing in the constant context of that moment, I listened to that segment of the video like a whole bunch of times and it really connected with me and put words to the shit I'm going through and was weirdly cathartic. So like... thanks! Thanks for that.
those bangs, those earrings, my mother is HERE

swush thank you!! Glad to hear.

Jokes on you I only watch Halloween movies for Busta Rhymes
Just pop it in with Fear.com and Cry Wolf and you got yourself a wonderful marathon of early 00s horror cringe.
With any luck he’ll be in the sequel
I kinda laughed at this comment. Chuckled. 😆
Gonna refer to every knife killing as "do a stab now."
This morning, a man in the lower east side had done a stab on a woman. More on Channel 4 news at nine.
I honestly thought he said "do a dab" I don't know what I was anticipating
Looking at this through the lens of abuser/victim relationship is interesting. -Here's my two cents- oh god I wrote a novel i'm so sorry i'm just full of feelings
You talk about Laurie somehow "knowing" that Michael's going to come back for her, but I don't think Michael really cares or even remembers her (in the context of this movie, at least). The only reason Michael is still connected to/reunites with Laurie is because the doctor brings him there. The doctor and the podcasters consider Laurie and Michael as a pair, and Laurie also considers Michael an unfortunate and inescapable part of herself (an indelible scar of trauma) , but Michael only cares about killing what's in front him. Abusers don't hurt people because they actively hate them, they hurt them because they wanted something and didn't care what effect their wants had on anyone else. In this movie, Michael goes after whoever's in front of him, with no regard to what they've done or who they are (killing the doctor after he saved his life). His victims are a means to an end.
The persistent and forced association between abuser and victim can be likened to the real-world phenomenon of well-meaning friends/family and therapists who insist on victims forgiving their abusers, who that say that understanding why someone would harm you is somehow helpful to moving on. As someone with PTSD, I've heard this advice a lot, and it's so stupid. Trying to reconcile "hurt me" with "not a bad person" creates a lot of painful cognitive dissonance, and only prolongs the process of a victim dissociating an abuser from their damaged self-image. It makes the victim's feelings secondary, and I don't agree with that. I think time and distance and justice and support are far more helpful to a victim than forced forgiveness could ever be.
But it still makes sense to me that Laurie is ready for battle, and that she and Michael end up fighting. I think her guns and her paranoia, and her alienation from her family, speaks to the lasting effects of PTSD - both voluntary and involuntary emotional/physical isolation, the disdain from people who don't understand a victim's distressed emotions and are vocal about how inconvenient they are, and most importantly, _hypervigilance._ When someone goes through trauma, it doesn't really ever end. Speaking from personal experience, the event is every time and everywhere, coloring my world in ways that a normal, unaffected person can never understand. Laurie, who exists as both a grandma and also a terrorized young woman, is primed to see threats where there are none, because in her mind, she is always being chased. She is prepared for the return of Michael, and is very anxious about him, but the fact that he is even a threat to her again is because of the doctor, who cares more about the theory behind Michael's actions that the effects of his actions.
If the theme of the movie is the attempt to reclaim life after trauma, then the villain(s) of the movie are the ones who refuse to let the victim move on by rehashing the past and humanizing the abuser. The doctor enables Michael's behavior both philosophically (with his desire to understand him) and practically (by saving him), and it's enablers like him who try to see "both sides" that revictimize abuse survivors. They perpetuate the abuse by refusing to denounce it.
In short, hey, society? Can we not romanticize abusers, can we not stigmatize victims, can we not force people to forgive when they don't want to, and can we recognize that some people don't deserve forgiveness?
Nailed it! Emphasizing with abusers only allows for psychopaths to manipulate the empathy of anyone willing to listen. Sometimes you just have to stop listening to the lies and get away, while warning others or at least educating yourself on the signs and patterns of abusers.
I'm literally applauding and cheering how good this take is! As someone that was a abuse survivor I feel this so much. Especially how people around me try so hard to make me empathize or "forgive" my abuser, but I refuse. In reaction, people make me feel like I'm the monster for not "forgiving" or moving past it. I just love your take on it so much also the films commentary on abuse relationship and society.
Well worth the read, bravo!
I know of someone who said he was kidnapped, held at gunpoint for two hours, and then dumped naked in a field. He also said one of the things to help get over the PTSD was forgiving the perpetrator, and moving on by never showing up to parole hearings or arraignments. Does forgiveness depend on the severity of the crime/abuse and/or person? Just asking as someone who's never been through severe emotional trauma and can't really relate all that much with victims.
Joe Jane I believe that it depends. I will never forgive my abuser. Some people like to cut themselves off from the experience as much as possible, like cutting away a cancerous abscess, some cope with their trauma in other ways. It depends. But the important thing to know here is that forgiveness is a gift that does not have to be given. You are not lesser if you don’t forgive.
Honestly, your video on the original Halloween informed how I read this one. And of course, I loved this new one and couldn't agree with you more!
It's about the EMOTIONAL stab that he did
"do a stab"
Girl if you trying to be cute, good job, your ways of paraphrasing are ridiculous and amazing.
I vote "Evil man who do the stab" as a alternative title. Luv you Nyx!
I honestly love your sing-song cadence and childlike glee at horror movies. It’s refreshing in a world of cynical CinemaSins imitators.
Girl you are starting to look like my grandma when she was young, especially with those glasses.

We need to keep this going all week long! Conall Cochran would want it that way.
I'm too much of a baby to watch horror movies, but its nice to hear to talk about something you're so passionate about :)
Those earrings are so hecking adorable!!!
They so are!
Michael has a very... unorthodox way of making coffee.
I'm gonna have to steal your earrings and your neon bat, May I'm sorry.
Also I really loved this analysis it really blends so beautifully with your previous discussion on Halloween.
PLEASE do a video on Halloween 3 at some point! I also love this movie sooo much and while I totally see why people are thrown off by it I’d love to hear your take because it’s so rare to see other people who like it!!
+Mads Arette
That would be great. "Halloween III: Season of the Witch" is definitely high on my list of favorite '80s horror movies, favorite horror sequels, and favorite "Halloween" movies. I also love that May is a fan of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2." Another one of my favorite '80s horror movies, favorite horror sequels, and favorite movies of it's franchise.
Now I want a t-shirt that says "He Do A Stab" or "I Do A Stab." Nyx, please make "do a stab" merch. Please.
What Halloween really needed was a new timeline, I can't believe nobody ever thought to do that before.
Good to see you here

🌚🌚🌚🌚🌚🌚🌝🌝🌝🌝🌝🌝
Everytime you put out a video (because I've usually never seen the movie in question before) I have this dilemma where I cant decide if I want to hear you talk about it immediately or just watch the movie first so I dont get spoiled :p
You look stunning by the way
this evil man who do the stab
Considering the potential for phallic symbolism in the slasher genre, I think a strong case could be made for this film being a relevant commentary on how we treat rape survivors and their abusers today.
For example, Lindsay Graham, and a lot of other people, putting on a mask, and letting people be harmed to protect an abuser, and making a villain of survivors.
@@KenMabie you know john carpenter has literally said laurie with the knife was meant to be phallic right? the knife is a dick? Its a penis?
How is it relevant or potent? Just because something comments doesn't mean it's done well or artfully.
I know you probably want to hear more comments about your review of the movie; but your transformation is too significant to ignore. You look absolutely beautiful. Keep doing what makes you happy
GAHHH! I love how excited you are about this awesome movie!
Jack Daniel's is awful, though. You're a classy dame, May. There's much better whiskey out there.
Girl, you're too cute. I'm glad I'm not the only one who had such a positive reaction to this film. I feel like some critics have been harsh on it and missed a lot of the more subtle aspects of this film. I loved it. Haven't been able to stop thinking about it since and I'll probably watch it again.
I brought my friend with me who barely payed attention when he watched Halloween when he was a kid, so he had no idea why I was S H A K I N G when the new Halloween paralleled the original. I don't wanna spoil it for people who haven't seen it yet, but MY GOD every few minutes there was something that I could point at and be like "THAT HAPPENED IN THE FIRST ONE". And can we talk about (this might be a bit spoiler-y so maybe don't read the rest if you haven't seen it yet) how, like the first movie, the VAST majority of kills were on completely innocent people. I can think of 2 people in the movie that deserve some kind of retribution and only 1 of them got it. Also someone made an extremely loud comical vomit sound during one of the kills which the entire theatre heard and was fucking hilarious.
Great video, really love your analysis! Also the bangs are super cute on you.
You have the look I've tried to perfect for years! I am so envious lol. By the way, your smile is contagious May...I love when people share their joy and you can't help but feel it too. Your love for Halloween hits home...it was the first horror movie I ever watched. My Mom rented all of them so we would be ready for H20...yes, she IS a badass 🤗💜
Him feeling stabbish
Though, they leave it totally ambiguous as to whether michael experienced childhook trauma before becoming 'The Shape'.
But, that doesn't imply that evil *didn't* come from neglect or worse.
It's so evil that it seems unspeakable.
Not empathizing with Michael per se, but the Slasher seems like something systemically inevitable in this structure of capital.
don't worry, Nyx. you're not alone; i know a few people who also love that 3rd Halloween movie. i can't watch it because i saw it when i was little and it gave me nightmares, which i guess it was effective?
i do love the Donovan "Season of the Witch" but apparently that doesn't count. :P
PS: i know her name is May but i like Nyx because primordial goddess of darkness. hope i don't offend.
The score is the best part of the movie. Hands down.
Every time I watch some horror UA-camr talk about this movie, it recontextualizes some element I wasn't sure about when I saw it, and makes me like it a little bit more. I wasn't completely sold on Laurie being depicted as this doomsday prepper type (because people who are like that IRL are often bigots or scary, abusive people, and I'm not sure about a movie that validates that stuff), but when it was pointed out to me how her characterization is symbolic of how women and victims of abuse or tragedy aren't believed, are disregarded, or are told to get over their trauma, while the people committing the awful acts are treated as subjects of fascination, it clicked for me ("he kills three people and he's 'a human being', I mess up my marriage and I'm crazy").
Similarly, I thought the plotline with the doctor was on the nose and unnecessary, but your explanation of him as a stand-in for the aforementioned people fascinated with "the nature of evil" and all that at the expense of victims, and also metatextually at horror movie fans and creators obsessed with the cool stabby man's cool stabs instead of character and theme, it makes me appreciate the character's inclusion a lot more. Can't wait until the movie's out on Blu-ray so I can view it again with all this new context.
My only issues, and I hope you have some thoughts/insight about this, were that the opening scene felt extremely insensitive and out of touch w it’s representation of mental asylum patients, and that the reporters, especially them being British, felt so out of place and awkward and made the movie feel cheesy to me. Thanks in advance for any input you have on this (:
Something about the way the various patients were kinda laid out on a giant checkerboard felt like it was commenting on how these patients are seen as objects of study/playthings for the researchers. Especially in contrast to how the Doctor is bragging about how great his facility is for the patients. It felt like one of those "we zeroed in on the abuse and dehumanization to make a statement on why abuse and dehumanization was bad!" kind of statements, where it's like, "OK but you could have conveyed that message any other number of ways???"
So yeah, it would have been nice to have updated the way mentally ill people are portrayed, and not just have them used as props to create atmosphere. I did like the one mention about how later they found three of them just chilling and holding hands, though that begs the question of why these harmless people in need of treatment were also being transferred to the mega-prison?
I actually kind of liked the absurdity of those two British podcasters actually going all the way to Illinois. They must put out about four episodes a year, with that kind of process. I bet their itunes ratings are terrible. It was totally goofy and bizarre, but I prefer that over horror films that take themselves super seriously, personally. I totally get why they feel pointlessly weird if that's not your thing, though. My guess is they either wanted to take a dig at podcasters, or show how ridiculous Dr. Sartain was, through his association with them. Or maybe how far some folks will reach to justify their rationale - he had to bring in two rando podcasters from another CONTINENT to show off how "legitimate" his defense of Micheal Myers is.
I kind of had the same sort of issues with the boyfriend at the beginning, who hecks up and then gets all shitty and whiny about it. I kept expecting that to go somewhere, or have him come back and do a die, but it felt like a subplot that just kind of ended, like he was an elaborate contrivance for why Allyson doesn't answer her phone?
Though in the context of the whole victimhood theme, maybe he's just supposed to embody that kind of false-victim gaslighty behavior, and having accomplished that, was summarily shuffled off-screen, never to be seen again. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
But I am not the Trans you're looking for. Hopefully May weighs in on this too.
May, you look incandescent!!! Be my goth gf pls
No but srsl you look so much happier than before! I'm so glad to see you making such positive changes in your life!
It's TRUE
Whoa, loved hearing your insights on this and the commentary the film might be making! I learned about you because of your Halloween (the first one) analysis, so it's great seeing you enjoying the recent one and doing some great talking about it! Also, the phrase "he do a stab" is now engrained in my mind, thanks
You look like a librarian or teacher
Oh god I'm trying to focus on what you're saying but its hard because y'all cute af. I also really, really thought this was the only worthy sequel to Halloween. I also really loved Season of the Witch, but it should never have been part of the series.
I saw this movie in theaters too, and it was amazing. I was not disappointed in the least and I was Donald Pleasantly surprised LoL I also love the" do a stab" that's hilarious. I love your earrings you adorable creature of the night, and I want a neon bat too! Also May, have you seen the movie "May" ? I'm sure you have, but if you haven't I HIGHLY recommend it
Yeah, the Halloween movies were always supposed to represent the inherent terror of the suburbs. That the legacy of exploitation and hatred that created the crime and violence suburbanites fear is the exact same thing that created the suburbs at all.
Leon from Renegade Cut summarized it perfectly when he said that Michael Myers is the ultimate refutation of the idea that “this kind of stuff isn’t supposed to happen in places like this”. That he represents that no matter how much you try to ignore the injustices of society, that they’ll always catch up with you.
Similarly, the quiet antagonists of these movies are people or institutions who fail to truly grasp the gravity of the danger. In the original, people are too set in their own ways to ever assume that they could be in danger in this community they have.
And in the remake, in attempting to “understand” Michael Myers, they end up enabling him to cause violence, and harm people. Additionally, Laurie’s family, in minimizing her trauma, alienates her and isolates her.
This rings similar to when people try to force survivors of trauma to forgive their abusers, and how this can sometimes be not only be unhelpful and demeaning, but give the abuser an opportunity to continue doing harm.
Michael Myers’ acts of violence are very deliberately framed with having no particular cause. Yeah, he goes after Laurie, but that’s less because he holds an actual grudge so much as he just sees her as being connected to himself, and is fascinated with her as a result.
Like plenty of abusers, his acts of violence are a means to an end. When he stabs somebody to death, he doesn’t scream, or curse, or anything like that. He just turns his head, inquisitively. Hell, during the first murder we ever see him perform in the movie, he isn’t even looking at his victim. He’s staring at the KNIFE. He’s curious. He’s completely disassociated from the consequences of his actions. He’d really kill anybody. For this reason, out of all the famous horror movie slashers, Michael Myers is the one that was is probably the most deliberately uncomplicated.
All in all, these movies have a bit of a thesis regarding things from your past coming back to hurt you, and about how society can misunderstand or enable those things to harm you further.
Me more and more willing to die for May everyday- its more likely than you’d think!
In all seriousness though I really enjoy your commentary on the film and the idea of victimhood becoming something that isn’t passive is a strong message. I truly admire the work you put into your videos and the depth at which you can really tell you analyze film.
Thank you for provided much needed content!
My favorite part of watching trans you tubers is watching them just get happier and happier after they come out. Look at this girl! So fucking proud of you!!
That haircut really works for You. Maybe it's just Me, but I think You found Your look.
Loved this, comment for algorithm 😊😊
Laurie Strode rocked the boat by refusing to look away. Everybody hates that because they can't see what she or someone in her place sees and it makes them feel powerless and like there is no reality to the problem. Like it is a nightmare that invades their Elysium. They often intuit what is warned about but, they don't want to have to worry about "could be" or "very realistically could be" and go on in the dream. Instead of coming to terms and learning from the past, they atrophy and wind up having no future. Horror is a lovely genre. It speaks on every aspect of life, I think.
I did inadvisable drinking and am watching this instead of doing the sleep I should be for the next seven hours, but, you just do talking about movies too good.
Just found your channel because of your appearance on Council Of Geeks latest video. I've actually not seen any Halloween films yet. I only really started getting into the horror genre when I bought a laserdisc player last year. There were a few that I had always really liked that I'd happened to catch on TV by chance, but because I was one of those kids who had nightmares from things in kids shows, I didn't think I'd be able to cope with actual horror movies. Then a few friends started recommending horror films after I got the laserdisc player, based on the couple that they knew I liked and I've started really getting into the genre so I've ordered the special edition of Halloween as it's one that pretty much everyone has recommended (well, one person specifically recommended Halloween 6 but I figured I should see the first one first...although I did see Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 before seeing the first one lol).
that description though
May, you're looking so much... lighter. Not physically, but the vibe I get is just... you're exuding something really positive in this video. You're doing great, kid.
I'm 5 seconds in but I LOVE THAT HEADBAND
Um. Hi.
I love your hair it's super good and nice.
yo are you gonna review the new suspiria?? i’m curious to see what you’d think. love your vids btw! :))
But I love when Michael run around and do a stab...
Cutest haircut ! Cutest earrings ! Cutest film analysis !!!
Didn't watch this video when it first came out, but now with such a great title, I have to
WOW!! Incredible! Incredibly insightful video and I'm glad you loved the film so much, I enjoyed it too :)
Would you ever consider doing a video on the Saw series? Some of the ideas on victimhood vs empathizing with evil etc strike a chord with the first trilogy.
Tho on the note of ending the fixation with understanding the killer, this is another set of sequels that just wont quit haha
this review is so great and entertaining, but what's even better is seeing you become your best self! all power to you, you look amazing, keep doing what you do because we're all loving it!
great video! but i have something to say about your setup: idk maybe it's the way you light your face or the fairy lights behind you but the focus randomly shifts throughout the whole video between you and the background
also where did you get those earrings? they are adorable!
Rob Zombie is one of the worst directors of this century so thank you for soundly roasting his ass
do you make your own music? its fantastic
May, if you say “do a stab” one MORE TIME
Thanks for the great video, I loved the new Halloween movie too. If you get a chance, I'd love to hear your opinions on the new Haunting of Hill House, I thought it was absolutely amazing.
I couldn't agree more!!!! Also, "Haunting of Hill House" was an absolute masterpiece
Jack Daniels? Come on you're classier than that.
Holy crap! No hat! Congrats!!!
Woohoo May talking about stabs!
You are always so cute! I love you!
watching you talk about a movie that had such meaning to you was very interesting and enlightening! can't wait to watch it, knowing it has the stamp of approval from the Queen of Hell!!!

-Eraserhead:(fully opening his eyes) ...?
-Well...maybe it's not my favourite movie...or maybe it's my favourite movie...
-Pantom of the Paradise(again heartbroken as hell): WHAAAAAAATTT??
-Favourite movies!
Awesome video,as allways!
I saw the first Halloween movie on HBO when I was about 12... in like 1980. 🎃 I LOVED HALLOWEEN 2018 SO MUCH, I SAW IT TWICE. Such a great direct sequel to the original. Love love love.
Loved Michael's transcendence in this... Like how Sephiroth represents Cloud's trauma in Advent Children.
'I will never be [just] a memory.' - Sephy
Also, the shots of him without his mask are masterful composition.
The new movie could have acknowledged the first Halloween 2 happened with some burn marks on his hands. It could have survived this second timeline reboot.
Wow. Every critic is hating on this film and here you are with an amazing, original, well thought analysis.
I felt the *exact* same way you described leading up up to this sequel/reboot (seeboot?); I've been... _pretty_ much *obsessed* w/all things Michael Meyers, *literally* since elementary school. I was *so. **_fucking. Hyped!_* going in. I could _barely_ wait to see it. After waiting what _seemed_ like *_forever_* (3 days after it's premiere) & *finally* getting to see it... I gotta say, I was a bit... melancholy(?), I guess? Don't get me wrong - I _enjoyed_ the new _Halloween,_ but i felt as if there was just *_soooo_** much* they could have done, even just _slightly_ differently that would've made it *not **_only_* more satisfying, but a better film altogether.
Now, there's *a-lot* to say about this film, & I feel like if there were *_anyonone_* in the world that I could talk to, _at _*_length_* about my favorite horror films, it'd be Nyx. W/that being said, I plan on going off on an *insane* tangent, but, if you hear me out, & bare w/me for a bit, you'll understand why I'm so *passionate,* even when I'm just expressing _mild _*_disappointment_* w/a franchise that's... _kind of_ a _"part of me";_ that has affected who I am as a person.
Before I get *balls-deep,* lemme just say that (IMO, _obviously)_ this was the 2nd/ _maybe_ 3rd best film of the entire franchise. The original is hard to top, & _most likely_ *never* will be; I place it at number 1, but then I'm having a hard time deciding, if this 1 was _better_ than _H20,_ or not. A lot of the negative feelings I have for _H20_ are a result of that *_horrid_* fucking follow-up, _Resurrection_ that *ruined* an otherwise _brilliant_ ending to the series. _Resurrection_ was *so* bad, that it _almos_ makes _H20_ hard to enjoy anymore, but dismissing _H:R_ entirely puts it _at-least_ on par w/this latest film.
You may be thinking, _"if you liked this latest iteration so much, then what could _*_possibly_*_ warrant such a _*_long_*_ list of complaints?"..._ Well, let's start w/the 1st thing that bugged me - the title. James Rolfe from AVGN said in his review "they should've called it 'Michael Meyers' instead!", & i have to agree; that woul've been a great title seeing as how calling it _Halloween_ when it's _technically_ a sequel to _1978's Halloween_ makes *_no_*_ sense!_ It would've made this film stand-out from the crowd of _all_ the other shitty Halloween sequels, & given this version its own _identity_ in a sense. It just seems, like... _lazy,_ & that lack of effort really chapps my ass-hole, considering how much this franchise means to me.
Leading up to the film, it was implied that in doing away w/the whole _sister_ angle, Meyers now basically kills at random, & Laurie was just an unfortunate victim who was caught in the crossfire, & now instead of being the victim, she's become the _huntress,_ which *_i guess_* makes sense... but, if _that's_ *in-fact* the case, then what's the significance of the holiday, at all to Meyers? Is it just a _random "coincidence"_ that he only brutally murders *on* or _around_ the 31st of October? If so, then what was w/the methodical, _almost _*_ritualistic_* fashion in which he went about doing so in the original? While, yea, the whole mindless killing machine thing *_does_* makes him _slightly_ creepier in *some* ways, i feel like some sort of driving force behind all the butchering just makes more sense in the context of _when_ & _how_ it all began. _-If-_ *When* BlumHouse does a sequel, there has to be some element of inherent back-story as to why any of this mayhem is happening, _around/to_ Laurie, or else having them collide *_yet_** again* would be kind of silly. That's why (as much as Carpenter & a lot of die-hard's disagree) doing away w/the _sister/brother_ back-story Halloween II established was a *big* mistake, *_especially_* when you consider the possibility of a sequel... to _this_ sequel.
While, yes, Michael surviving that fire, that *w/out a **_doubt,_* would've _completely _*_incinerated_* him in the hospital explosion, a clever way to fix that could've been something like, putting in a _during the opening credits_ (you know the type I'm referring to) where emergency responders come in immediately after he falls on his face, Laurie's taken away *screaming **_"DONT SAVE HIM!!! JUSTLET HIM DIE, PLLEEEASSSEEEE!?!"_* or something, & they all spray him down w/fire extinguishers, & then to tie it together, show scars all over his arms, & part of his face when you see him in the asylum courtyard, in the opening of this new 2018 version. They go & set him on fire at the end of this 1 _anyway,_ so why not just leave Halloween II in the continuity/canon, & setting him on fire *again* & _(seemingly)_ letting him _finally_ *die* would make the ending to _Halloween: New (2018)_ *even **_better! and_* given Laurie even more _cause_ to be so obsessed, & have such debilitating PTSD, as a result.
Which leads into _something _*_else_* that bothered me: Michael Meyers is supposed to be "human" w/out any sort of supernatural elements to his character, in this timeline right? He was billed as such, at-least in my interpretation of what they were going for... but then, when he goes on his spree through that neighborhood, I was *_immediately_* thinking to myself _"Bull. Fucking. Shit, is he 'human'."_ He exhibits *all-kinds* of just, *_undeniably_* inhuman abilities in this version! He's lifting people off the ground by the neck w/1 hand, recovering from major injuries w/no ill-effects or hindrance to his mobility, at *60 yrs old,* & then he (obviously) survives being blown-the-fuck-up at the end - the mother-fucker's not a _normal_ human. He's _just _*_not,_* & to portray him as such is kind-of silly, _no matter _*_how_* you _try_ & justify it. The *only* way a sequel to this version makes _any_ kind of sense, is to follow suit of the *now* _discarded_ sequels & put in some sort of paranormal _ex-machina_ element that allows this *60 yr old man* to survive everything that most certainly should have killed him *several times over,* & to continue his infamous killing spree. Otherwise, they better make the explanation for all his blatant defiance of death fucking brilliant/ *so **_clever_* it blows our collective minds out of our urethras, because i just cannot support another sequel where Meyers is still the main antagonist, in that context. It'd just be _flat-out_ *dumb,* at this point.
W/ *_all_* that being said, if I try & look at it as a stand-alone sequel while watching, though, i really do enjoy. it, but it should end here IMO. A _sequel _*_to_* the *sequel* is a bad idea, & ruins what they were able to do w/this 1. As a die-hard, almost life-long fan of Halloween & all things Michael Meyers - who dressed as him several years in a row as a teenager, & once as an adult for the holiday associated, I hope i'm wrong, & somehow the inevitable sequel-sequel blows my goddamn dick off! because i like what they did w/this _"soft-reboot",_ & i'm _really_ rooting for the people behind it all.
There are a _few_ other things that they _could've_ done differently to make the film a bit more satisfying & a _little_ less confusing, like Laurie should've been the 1 who caused the bus crash, the daughter should've been revealed at the end to've been *_"in on it"_* the *whole* time, they should've given the _"twist"_ w/the dr more context, or just _not_ have done it at all, the humor could've been _less_ awkward, the little black boy should've had a bigger role, & Laurie should've been *_way_* more tactical at the end, considering how long she'd trained & set things up *for **_that_** specific* purpose, & a couple other minor things, but this is _way_ too long already, & I'm _probly_ a _little_ biased, & am expecting *_too_** much* out of the film, but I *_truly_* feel, as big of fans as McBride & Greene _allegedly_ were of the _Halloween_ films, they should've seen how _at-least _*_some_* of the things I've mentioned here would've made for a _much, _*_much_* better film, & I hope they address these issues in the sequel-sequel.
Thanks for your time, _if_ you _actually_ read *all* this, & I _really_ appreciate you bearing w/me through it all.
Every time you say 'DO A KILL' or 'DO A STAB' I just start laughing uncontrollably I can't even
UA-cam went very different, and I literally lost you, and I found you again, yay and WOW some things have changed! I will link and hopefully UA-cam can't jack us again. Wow. I'm glad your happy. I missed a lot of this show, with a move to movies (were we game pals back then?) Anyway, welcome back.
First off: you look bomb.
Second: I was disappointed that in this version, Michael Myers actually ended up being arrested and put away for 40 years. The only thing that viscerally frightened me with the original was the ending, where he disappears and the implication is that he could be anywhere. Him being put away sort of cancelled that theme in my mind (of that makes sense).
That being said, I really liked how you discussed victim hood and mental illness in this, and how when something awful happens to you, it may never really leave you, and you will be constantly fighting it. ALSO, that climax was fucking amazing so....I’ll shut my big whore mouth.
chdhdhdbd i was waiting for you to make a video on halloween 2018 im so happy also YOU LOOK SO CUTE AAAAAAH 🎃🎉☺️⭐️
i'm a bit confused on the title... what is he do a stab ??? I'm sticking around though as I like your humor and views. Thanks for an awesome video and as I'm seeing now your channel. also so...KA BAAMM!
I am craving Halloween so bad, It is something I do daily throughout the year. With that being said, I couldn’t have came upon your channel at a better time. Yeah!!!
Can I just say I love you and your content so much May????? And I just wanna say you are my idol?!!????!!!?!? ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
I am SO late but I just wanted to say that you are AMAZING and I am SO PROUD of you for being yourself
I have waited 6 god damn months to watch this video. So, after your first Halloween video I decided to go to a legacy screening of the OG stabby boy film, and holy shit was it good.Tense, scary, a dude was dressed as Michael and stood outside the theatre to spook us all as we left, it was great! Fast-foward to the final screening in my city and my car breaks outside the theatre, so I missed it. I just watched the blu-ray and came to see your cooled hot take. Like so much of the movie has extra depth now. Even down to the documentary crew: they go to Michael first, they want Laurie to visit Michael so he can do something, they treat her like shes just some damaged old woman jumping at ghosts.
Laurie is basically Haddonfield's Boogeyman. An unpleasant reminder that awful things happen to people just like them, and they hate her for it. God that was a good film, we need more Slasher Slasher Movies. I really hope you do a full on ass video essay like you did for the first one! Love your analysis, May!
Ouuu baby you so cute! I love this openness you got going on at the moment💜
So I love that instead of going through the plot instead you discuss what the film is about. THANK YOU!
Ok those bangs are super cute!!!! But you look so happy I’m happy you are living your truth, I was hoping you would do this video!!! 🖤🖤 also the dead meat podcast has one on the psychology of the final girl which is very very cool everyone should check it out!! Ok everyone have a good day!
Insightful AF. I gotta go watch him do a stab.
Also, Rob Zombie could record himself taking a shit and I'd think it was a cinematic masterpiece. I'm a sucker for musicians switching to film lol
Wow, I didn't expect I'd come away from this wanting to see the movie, as I'm just not a fan of slashers in general, but the way you've described it here makes me really think I'll enjoy it even if I know the basic plot already. Gonna go this weekend!
hi! long time viewer here! i know this is an old video (6 months when i’m writing this) but i just wanted to say something. a while ago i kinda fell off your content. it seemed really forced and more of a job instead of something you enjoyed, but wow. May. you have certainly grown into someone who is so genuine and excited about your content as well as the things around you. i’m glad i clicked on your channel to see how you’ve been and i’m so GLAD this is the content i came back to. i’m excited for this chapter of your life for you! congratulations and thank you for your courage and being visible!
