Now you gotta watch "Lego Movie: The Second Part" (which I liked better than the 1st Movie). And "Lego Ninjago", a movie I watched with my daughter and her classmates just to placate them and was surprised at how good Ninjago was
@gonqueasel yes, growth is what I meant as well, he went from a recluse who focused solely on vengeance and completely ignoring all the good he could do outside of that to a symbol of hope working in the light and saving people directly
Richard “Dick” Grayson is only the first Robin Batman adopted. The next are Jason Todd, Tim Drake and his biological son Damian Wayne, after Dick became his own hero Nightwing.
Fun fact: In the comics Batman has quite a few adoptive kids! - There's Dick Grayson (who in the comics fora bout forty-ish years has gone by Nightwing after 'graduating' from Bruce's training. The sunshine boy goofball and big brother to everyone. - Jason Todd, who went by Robin too for a while but got tortured and blown up by Joker. He came back to life and was upset that Bruce didn't kill Joker and went on a drug-selling and murder spree for a while. Currently working with Bruce (I think. I haven't been keeping up). - Tim Drake, a kid who saw Bruce was becoming more brutal after Jason got Joker'd and became Robin to help him stay in the light. - Damian Wayne, Bruce's only biological child. Bruce didn't know about him for ten years, so he got raised by his mum Talia and Ra's Al Ghul. This led to him being skilled, but also having literally no sense of right and wrong. Talia then left him with Bruce, who taught him right and wrong and gave him a decent father figure that wasn't a centuries-old genocidal leader of an army of Ninja. He got character development, and loves animals (though he still acts tough). - Cassandra Cain - like Damian, he was also raised by an assassin - who never taught her how to speak. Bruce took her in and eventually adopted her. Loves Ballet. - Duke Thomas, the only one of Batman's proteges to have powers. He also has some proteges who aren't his kids for various reasons: - Stephanie brown, the daughter of one of Batman's villains. She became a vigilante and dated Tim for a while. - There's Barbara - not much like the movie version (no hate on the movie though). - Bluebird, the kid of two petty criminals who used her engineering skills to become a punk-styled Vigilante with a Taser gun. Also another fun fact: Bruce is a terrible cook. Like, he's as bad at cooking as he is good and breaking femurs with a single punch. Tim: It's okay, bruce. How can you mess up a tuna fish sandwich? *Takes a bite* Oh. That's how.
batman laughs at tom cruise's ''You Complete Me'' line (Jerry Maguire 1996) because that was the exact line heath ledger's joker tells batman in The Dark Knight 2008.
Note that Billy Dee Williams is the voice of Two Face. In Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman he played Harvey Dent. He was supposed to be Two Face in the third film until Burton got the boot. This was a long overdue consolation prize!
Since Im a huge Batman fan I watch this movie every year for my birthday. It's by far my favorite Batman movie, and somehow it always makes me cry even tho I've seen it a million times 😭
I’m a literal lifelong Batman fan, and this is one of the greatest Batman movies ever made. There were moments I couldn’t breathe because I was laughing so hard from this movie!
this movie tackled the most important topic of batman that outside of this movie has not been talked about at or even the comics don't address it, but it's an issue that is there We know why he's helping people. Other people have made their theories in the movies and the comics, and the shows on why Batman does what he does. Even his own felons have their own theories, but something that we Never seen asked in a single batman movie show video game until this lego movie was " Are they the ones you are protecting"
One of the best Batman moments is when Arnett turned up on a talk show when it had been unusually snowy, announced school closures in his Batman voice.
I remember when Lego bricks hit the market in the early 60s. By then I was too old to be playing with toys as I was in my last years of highschool. When my much younger cousin arrived from Cuba I got him a Lego set and had a ball building things with him. Even as an adult I enjoyed Legos. Raising 3 kids gave me plenty of opportunity to play with them. My eldest son became an under water welder working off shore in the Gulf for an oil company. What is interesting is that to this day he builds the most amazing things with his Legos.
I am disappointed they never made a sequel to this. It was so cleverly done. I liked that they had Ralph Fiennes as Alfred but actor Eddie Izzard playing Voldemort.
Pharrell Williams is launching a biopic about his career called Piece by Piece this October, and it was entirely made with Legos. Everyone in the movie looks adorable.
The voice of the Phantom zone computer is an actress named Ellie Kemper (I recognized her right away when I saw this in the theater long ago). She is famous for being on the Office TV show, but I really like the Netflix show Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt that she is the star of… check it out in your free time- it’s one of my favorite shows. Tell me about it, Lego Batman fans have been waiting around for the sequel for years, it may not be coming 🙃
Batman and The Joker had the best romantic tension ever in this film, and it works so well and so genuinely, that it's better than a LOT of romantic movies out there. I love this film.
Shout out to all the Cameo villains in this movie, such as Voldemort, Sauron, and the Dr. Who Daleks @30;39 "EXTERMINATE!!" This was incredibly funny, and as you said Mary I love how they touched on the fact that Batman is so dependent on the Joker, Riddler, (penguin? was he in it and I just didn't catch him?) and the rest. In fact, it was the TV series starring Adam West as Batman that I realized this dynamic myself. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, Mary, because I had never seen it myself. Now I will have to try to find it myself on Roku so I can watch it unedited.
In addition to digging out some really obscure villains at the beginning, there's also some very obscure dc heroes in the party at the fortress. They're also all worth a google. As a British person,. I love that reference to British robots.
I *LOVE* this movie. Because it's essentially a Batman movie IF: - Batman and his rogues and family were all being acted out.. - by a kid.. - who's inherently just applying all the fundamental lessons good parents hope they're passing on to their kids.. - so it's just like The LEGO Movie, except applied to Batman making it actually NOT a Batman movie at all, because it's a deconstruction and acknowledgement and lampshading of all the tropes that make Batman what it is (or has become). And it gets away with it all because it's a kid's movie.
So Eddie Lizard does the voice of Voldemort, which is like… Ralph Fiennes does the voice of Alfred, he’s fright there, why didn’t they get him to do the voice lol
Barbara Gordon is typically depicted a lot younger than Batman and is more or less like a daughter figure. She’s also primarily a love interest of Richard “Dick” Grayson.
Mary I highly recommend Batman: Mask of the Phantasm it's the definitive Batman movie. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill will always be the best Batman and Joker. In all the 85 years that Batman has been around there's only one man that truly embodied the role and his name is Kevin Conroy. When he died it felt like Batman died. He's deeply missed. It's sad we'll never hear his iconic voice in a new project again.
Lmao, I love the introduction to the villains. Bane just saying "Hello!"in the most friendly, Tom Hardy voice, kills me every time. Catwoman: "Meow meow, you're in! Meow meow." (Fun fact:Voiced by Zoe Kravitz years before she got the part in "The Batman".) 4:26 "I love it!" Lol, O'Hara looks so adorable at that line. 9:43 "What?! NO! I DON'T want to DO that!!!" XD! Sauron getting blasted and the Kraken's reaction before slinking away kills me every time.
All the villains that were in the Phantom Zone were The Joker, Gremlins, Voldemort, The Wicked Witch of The West and her Flying Monkeys, Medusa, Dracula, Agent Smith, Sauron, King Kong, Kraken, Velociraptors, T-Rex, and The Daleks (aka The British Robots).
If we’re talking about the main non-comedic version of Batman, he actually shows more positive masculinity, specifically stoicism which is self control of his emotions. He does in fact socialises with his various hero friends and family.
I could be wrong but the movie line "You complete me" is funny because it's what Joker says in the Dark Knight movie in the interrogation room when he asks joker "why do wanna kill me?"
You're overthinking it. The joke is much more simple. it's not a reference to anything. The joke is that Batman finds it funny because he's so emotionally damaged he can't even fathom the heartwarming nature of the actual scene and laughs at it instead. The four of them all laughing together at the end is nothing but a call back to that same joke to be another funny gag.
Definitely one of the best Batman movies, for sure. A deconstruction and parody that works quite well to bring the character's darkness and light in a way that brings to mind not just the live-action media over the decades, but virtually everything else in Batman history as well.
Honestly, I never would have watched this movie had you not reacted to it. I just wanted to see why you liked it so much in your thumbnail and you're right it was pretty funny as a parody. Great reaction Mary!
Batman laughs at the, "You complete me," lime because Ledger's Joker quotes it during his interrogation in The Dark Knight. Just doubling down on Bruce's closed off, under pressure, powder keg heart.
First time re-watching this film, I instantly remember if were going to be any 4th-wall breaks from Lego Batman aside from the opening intro because it actually got me thinking about Deadpool a bit.
Great reaction, I love this movie as well ❤️ It’s funny as hell… makes me miss my siblings and little cousins when they were younger, now they’re teenagers. They always loved it when I copied his voice and the Lego movie references. Have a nice day and I always enjoy your reaction videos 👍
Richard dick Grayson is the first robin. The Lego movie did the adoption differently but typically the story goes that Bruce Wayne was there in the audience the night in a circus where the flying graysons(dick’s parents) fell to their deaths doing a circus stunt because of the tampering of gears by a mob boss named tony zuko. Bruce adopted him, raised him, and trained him to become robin because dick had that same vengeful drive that Bruce had when his parents were murdered. So Bruce let him help bring the man who killed his parents to justice by making him robin because he didn’t want dick to turn out like him and so once they brought zuko to justice the story of Batman and Robin the dynamic duo begins. Eventually dick grew up and moved on to become his own man and left the robin mantle and became who we now know him as nightwing. And there is a rumor that dick Grayson robin might be in Matt reeves the Batman part 2. Which I’m so hoping its true, Grayson robin/nightwing is one of my favorite heroes of all time.
Lego movies and shows are my guilty pleasure...for me It all started with Lego Avengers:Code Red, then Lego Avengers where Loki tries to join the avengers...they were great...also I just started playing Lego Undercover the game and it's hilarious
