"it's ok to watch everybody but don't imitate everyone's style. You might get frustrated".. this is a stray bullet to my heart. Thanks my mentor sir! I hope to see u in person someday.
Yes..
Glad it was helpful.
We'll definitely see someday..
Honestly sir....
I think that's one of my greatest challenge now 😢..
Thank you for this
I have a problem with tempo and how to fix chops in a grove. I love your mentorship
Sir
Have been practicing rudiments for long but how to use them is very challenging
Because I don't have a place of practice
Very educative
Also that problem of learning a chop and not being able to fix it into timing
Hmmmm..
Ive made so many videos breaking down so many chops, & I show you how to apply it too.
So check out those videos & it'll help you.
I also dropping another video related to this topic next week.
The rudiments are so difficult to master. I've been practicing them for long but using them is still challenging, especially the kicks
They're not actually difficult.
There are actually no kicks in the rudiments. Except if you're Substituting.
Be sure you're learning the right thing.
Take the advice I gave here, start off with learning one first then over time, add others very gradually.
Thanks sir but what do you think about rehearsal off the kit? I rarely find a kit to try out the practices on and when It's time to play in church it (rudiments) seem hard to play. So do you think off kit rehearsal (like pillow) is advisable?
The much rebound on the snare and all that.
I sir love you with all my heart ❤❤❤ especially in the part of mentorship.
So much insight..Gos bless you bro❤
Oh Glad to hear that bro.
Amen. God bless you too 🙌🏾 ❤️
Almost all things i make mistakes in.even i don't practice that much, just sunday go to church and play and get complains
It can be fixed bro.
Just try to chip in a little rehearsals into your schedule. Rehearsals doesn't have to be 30mins or 1hour or 2 hours above.
Practicing consistently for 10 - 15mins daily will help you so much more than you can imagine & those complaints will stop.
Whenever you want to practice, pick on thing you want to work on that day and stick to it. Don't get distracted. That's the way to grow. You might not notice your growth immediately but over time, it would begin to show.
@@TochSticksMusic thank you so much

You're welcome man 🙌🏾 ❤️
I want to join your classes sir
No place to rehearsal
Then i have problem applying my rudiments when playing
❤❤❤❤whoooo let's goo good one sir we really appreciate this sir
Good to hear that man! ❤ 🙌🏾
Really need a mentor 🥺
I have problem of practicing a rudiment and not able to apply it in a chop
A lesson filled with knowledge.
Thank you.
My problem is sticking to a particular tempo, but with this I'll focus more on practicing with a metronome to correct that. New goal.
I'm glad you found it helpful.
Yeah, working with a metronome will help you fix that
Same here 🥲 am really having issues with dat
Sir please could you tell me the right videos to watch on youtube, because I watch so many videos and I get confused ..😢
This man is an exceptional and experienced teacher I support you sir ❤
I'm honoured man 🙌🏾❤
❤❤
I'm struggling with the mistake of keeping to time as well as playing with other musicians but thank you for this video sir
Yeah..
I believe you already found your solution the video.
Just practice more with a metronome & try to get your other musician friends to come together more often so y'all can play together.
It's not only beneficial to you but to them also.
Gemmss
Personally need to start practicing grooves as much as my chops
Thanks fam!
Yeah..
You need to..
You're welcome man 🙌🏾
The right mentor knows what you need 💯
Yess 💯❤
Memories.. ❤❤ This is the kind of push/motivation musicians will always need at some point. Mentorship can't be overemphasized, Well done broo❤❤
Yes 😊😊
Thank you Big Broo 🙏🏼 ❤️
Yes 😊😊
Thank you Big Broo 🙏🏼 ❤️
The last point tho 📌 but its still practice nau 😩😅. Great video! Love it 🔥🔥🔥
😅😅It's not really...
Glad to hear you love it.🙌🏾❤️
I had nobody to mentor me as an early drummer so I had to mentor and coach myself
I learned different pattern and techniques of drumming from many drummers and added them together
But ever since I found you here I ain't going no where no more thank you for all you do bruvver ❤❤❤
I understand what it feels like to not have a mentor.
Glad to have you here man.
I'll do the best I can
I have always believed in mentorship... After watching some of ur videos on UA-cam some time last year.. I really loved hw u break things down n I was like boom this is who I need someone who isn't only skillful but has the knowledge of the skillfulness. From that time I have taken you sir as a mentor to me on drums and am ur student!
Oh wow...
Thanks man.
Glad I'm being of help 🙏🏼 ❤️
@@TochSticksMusic 🙏🙏
God bless you sir
God bless you too man 🙏🏾❤
Amen..
God bless you too man 🙏🏾 ❤
Mine is the Loop aspect, without the inear i go faster than the beat😂😂 And the point I focus just on the loop I don't enjoy the drumming anymore and it feels like I'm stuck to one beat by paying more attention to the loop😢😢❤
Hmmm😅
Okay here's the thing, once your playing with a loop/backing track you need to be able to hear it clearly either with you stage monitors or in ear monitors. So I think you should focus on getting them loud enough for you to hear.
And another thing is, when the volume is low, you'll need to reduce your level of excitement & stick to maintaining the tempo.
If you've practiced so well with a metronome you won't struggle so much with this. Your sense of tempo would have increased.
I hope this helps.
I just got it....
Youre my mentor...
I'm a self thought bassiest im not even there yet but ill be doing good. I love drums but cant play nobody to teach me recently my church we dont have any drummer we are left with picking from ourselves. After watching this video i feel the urge to pick up the sticks
Ill definately come back to share my testimony one day
Sure you will man.
Just take it gradually & follow the things I share here.
You'll definitely grow
It's the tempo for me🤣🤣,you caught me red handed, I think I practice more on chops than grooves and then actually forget to maintain a steady tempo when playing, it has been very hard
I got a lot from the video thanks a bunch
I also wanted to ask what I can do when the band I'm supposed to practice with doesn't have time for rehearsals at all and so I end up having to practice alone and I find it really affecting me just like you said because I see myself playing better at rehearsals than when I'm actually playing with the band??
😅😅My man. Yeah stick to practicing grooves a little but more than practicing chops and you'll see a huge difference in your playing.
About your band members, if they can't fix their schedule for you all to rehearse (which they should try to do if it's important to them), there are two things you can do. You either find another set of people to work with(going to be hard though) or listen more to drummers that play lots of tasty grooves with their band. By doing that, you'll begin to build the sense of knowing what to play & how to approach the music in better ways.
You can also get some drum less tracks and practice with them.
These few tips should help.
@@TochSticksMusic thanks sir, this was very helpful a lot I really appreciate 😊👌
Wow 😲😲, you were part of the boys brigade 🥰🥰
I'm also part of the boys brigade here in Cameroon
Yeah..
I was far back then
my biggest issue is usings sextuplets over certain grooves kinda like 6/8 timing and i struggle to keep in time, what advice would you offer?
Okay..
Try using a metronome, & play all those sextuplets very slowly & gradually build your way up.
Now you might have to cram some of your favourite sextuplets grouping and play very frequently while playing. Over time you'll be able to create more from that one that you have.
Generally, just practice more.
Can You told me wich type of drum sticks you use? Ex: 7A or 5B
OK man.
I make use of 5A/5AX & 5B primarily.
Mr Tosh, mistake no. 4, i do that alot ooo 😢...
Thank God I'm watching this...
It's well😅
Now you can correct it.
@@TochSticksMusic plz I need help in terms of playing praise... Are there any playing patterns for praise... I totally lost my confidence anytime I play praise.. 🥺🥺
Sir, do you have a drum community on WhatsApp or Telegram? I will like to join. Great content Sir.
Is it okay to have an online mentor that u watch his videos
Sir... My biggest problem now is that i don't have a band or a keyboardist to practice with.. the one in my church is not regular with service and doesn't cm fr rehearsals like even after service e doesn't even groove.. just play praise n worship n others once church shares benediction like he is literally out. It really hurts my bone.
Okay.. So,
About your band members, if they can't fix their schedule for you all to rehearse (which they should try to do if it's important to them), there are two things you can do. @@TochSticksMusic I making use of these advises ASAP.. so pls sir very important, how do I get drumless tracks???
The way I ignored mentorship and rudiments 😂🤦♂
😅Broo..
It's alright. So far as you discovered that it was a mistake & you're undergoing the process of fixing the mistakes
Like I said... I took you as a mentor cox ya not just skilled sir.. u have knowledge or shud I say u know what you play. My challenge with some persons I wanted them to put me tru was the fact that they can't break it down and they don't even know what they play. They will be like I just play others will be like "e just enter hand".
😅😅😅 ...
It's very important as a drummer to know the things you play & be able to explain it.
It increases your creativity on the drums.
@@TochSticksMusic thank you sir
That story ehh...may we not pursue our destiny helpers oo😢😂
😂Amen!
Thanks sir @Tochsticksmusic 🙏
You're welcome man 🙌🏾
I'm struggling with the mistake of not knowing the particular time to play a groove...... 💔😭.. though I have other problems but this one aishh😔😩
Oh..
To fix this, the advice I can give you is too listen alot to other drummers & you'll be able to know the kind of grooves that match certain songs..
Yes sir 🤧🙌
You didnt talk about drummers in little churches with no form of connection
Truth is, connection isn't what makes you a successful drummer. It can be a factor, but it isn't entirely what makes you successful. The important thing is to be very skillful & then the connections will come.
But I also want to ask you man, what do you need the connections for?
I had nobody to mentor me as an early drummer so I had to mentor and coach myself
I learned different pattern and techniques of drumming from many drummers and added them together
But ever since I found you here I ain't going no where no more thank you for all you do bruvver ❤❤❤
