This band has the potential of being pretty good. All these guys need to do is make a few adjustments. With a different singer, guitarist, and drummer, these guys could really improve
If I could travel back in time and give myself advice, it would probably be "consider it a miracle if you can ever get more than 4 people to so much as show up to a place at the same time" Parties were never a pain in the ass for me because they didn't want to show up or hang with me, it was always just stupid bullshit making friends unavailable, and them just flat out sucking at arriving somewhere within a given time frame. Edit: OK there's a LOT more advice I would give younger me, but that's one legitimate piece that I've had in the back of my mind for the longest time(and the only one relevant to your comment)
Well if the drums stop then the life of the music stops... killing it pretty much instantly. We are quite valuable us drummers!! Not enough to go around it seems. I took it up just so we could have a drummer as I also played guitar. Now I am always condemned to be behind the kit man I really miss playing guitar for real!
Had a show a few years ago, guitar player kept trying to lose me on purpose, I kept playing thru his mistakes then making sharp stops and was turning the intention fuck ups against him!! Was beautiful!
Bass can replace drums until they catch back on. If the bass is gone too, a good rhythm guitarist can usually hold it (especially if they’re singing). If everything fails, it’s acapella time and we’ll try again on the next song.

Honestly just give the guitarist a pick, give the vocalist a mic, get the drummer and guitarist to synchronize, and tape the sticks to the drummers hands, and they'll be good to go.
The guitarist has a pick. If you watch he has it between his index and middle finger then after the opening he transfers it to his thumb and index finger
They sounded pretty good for a few seconds, and didn't argue about starting over. If you've ever been in a garage band you wouldn't think this practice was terrible.
I got that beat. 3 weeks after I got my first guitar, my bass player buddy (who had years experience) wanted to start a band. I told him no. I hadn't even learned my first chord yet. But he badgered me and insisted. Like a young, impressionable kid I finally agreed. At our first practice I fumbled through a bunch of power chords and just as I thought I was getting the hang of those, they decided they wanted me to sing, too. I protested, but they hit me with the peer pressure and I finally said okay. They setup a gig for that very weekend........... less than a week after our very first practice. We did the gig, it went about as bad as you'd expect, and then the band RIDICULED THE SH*T out of me. "You're awful. Why are you even here? Jesus you suck. You ruined the whole thing. You are out of the band!" Quickly I realized that might have been their plan all along. They cooked the whole thing up just to embarrass me. THAT is the worst band practice ever.

I'm with a new band and we audition to be in this small local music festival my city puts on every year. Not a huge deal, the main stage has like 200 people in the crowd, but for a tiny town, the local bands rally, all hoping for a tiny bit of exposure. I run into those old a-holes at the audition. They, for some reason, think I'm just as bad now, 6 years of experience later, as I was then. They laugh and give me a bunch of crap, "you here for the comic relief? Go home." .............we landed as the next to last act on the main stage. They didn't make the cut. Karma is a beautiful thing.

My first band practice, I was drowning the singer real bad with the drums so I boosted the volume of the mic so high that there was an insane feedback it was so intense the owner of the space came in to ask us if we were okay. Also, when the singer asked me to "put it down", I put the microphone on the floor. Today I'm a pro sound engineer :)
Lol the first band practice I have ever had we hadn't an amp for the bass nor for the mic so we plugged them both in a Marshall for guitar. Unsurprisingly we fried it
That’s awesome! What did it take to become a sound engineer? When I was aptitude tested down in Atlanta, I scored 99% on the pitch discrimination(which means I can literally hear any change in noise or pitches) test and always wanted to do something with it
Drummer here, been to more band practices than I can count. The trick to solving the dropping the stick problem is actually not “don’t drop the stick” but to have a big bag of sticks within reach to grab and not miss a beat.
I keep a couple sticks on top of the kick drum. I'm missing some fingers and half my thumb from an accident so my hand cramps up a lot from trying not to drop the sticks - I've started using grip on the sticks and it is working out pretty well , no more cramps or dropped sticks
Also important for playing live. I dropped a stock during my drum cover of "you spin me right round" toward the end and I finished the song using my instincts with one hand

Gentlemen, I can safely say, from the vantage point of having been in a few bands over the decades, that I have heard MUCH worse than this. Keep going, keep playing, keep practicing, keep learning, and at some point you'll post a video on UA-cam that will have people saying, "That ROCKS."

Technique level 1000: the guitarist plays the first chords with his thumb, holding his pick with the index and middle finger, and then proceeds to play the rest with the pick. Perfect switch in dynamics. The drummer is fucking awesome with his stick tricks, and the singer...that's a hell of a high ass falsetto. Mad props to the boys.

I only play with my thumb and I can shred. Idk why its just how I learned and I like the softer sound. Plus it makes sweep picking super easy, but you can only do it with a downstroke 💀. I can play with a pick but choose not to, I have more control over the sound of the strings with my thumb.
There's definitely potential, the singer seemed to have a pretty good melody and the drummer and guitarist just need to work on syncopation. DONT GIVE UP!
I really liked the bands earlier work in the first 10 seconds of the video but their career in the last 24 seconds of video really went down hill. I would like to have seen them live when they were first starting out. They were def underrated and should have been more well known. I do hope they tour again, at least for the die hard fans.

I remember my junior year in high school. I was the bassist in my band... We were shite... Senior year came, and I realized I was better at vocals and found out my friend Sergio was better at bass than I was. We found a new drummer, and our guitarist had gotten a lot better due to practicing. Man, the difference was night and day
Yes! Civil is a good word to describe this and maybe wholesome? IF a drummer would try to restart a song because of a lost drumstick, there will be hell to pay... And yes another classic is throwing guitars at bandmates or guitar players cutting their strings in anger because their shitty equipment can't stay in tune, adding tension to the room ;D Vocalists refusing to be wrong when they very much are and just should admit it. Or bandmates just playing (usually a guitarist) what comes to mind between songs, which will be followed by alot of bandmembers screaming in contempt.
Usually par for the course. "Shut the fk up man! Play the fking song. 1, 2, 3, 4 ...." End up nailing it perfectly, harmonies, solos, etc. "yeah, it was pretty good."
keep it up guys. i didnt start playing guitar until i was 24 and had never been in a band till 28. I have a terrible ear cant read music or usually dont know what key songs are in but now i lead my own band with guys who are way better musicians than i am I also do solo acoustic/one man band gigs full time for a living now! practice and persistents pays off!!! keep it up
Honestly my band started out almost the exact same way but we were a 4 piece and after months of practice we became moderately good and yeah so keep on practicing.

Yeah it’s bad to lie and say “this sounds great!” When it doesn’t, but discouraging young/starting musicians isn’t good for “the future of music” either. I (sometimes) like things that sound rough and shitty because it means that despite not having the best skills, they have passion for music and are trying anyway, and I think that’s very cool. Or maybe they’re just having fun and not taking themselves seriously, and it could be a lot worse, but still they’re trying and that’s also cool.

Had many of those practices in my early days...trust me when I tell you that it gets better as you go. Another bit of advice: When you're playing a live show...never stop because of a mistake, keep on going just like you never missed a beat. If you stop because of a mistake...it makes that mistake that much more noticeable.
This is actually still the early stages of a band where people don’t feel pompous and entitled after being told they’re decent, and actually CARE about what they’re doing.
as a 20 year musician of mainly bass and drums, this is potential. granted it's 14 years old now, but this is how the greats get their start. This could have been the next Blink or Green Day. and just a heads up Mr drummer man: I've played for years, and even with all the skill in the world, you will always still lose a stick once in awhile and us as drummers are almost always the reason the song gets started over lol. There is a video in which Bard Kolstad (something like that) of Leprous breaks a stick and for some reason his instinct was to play with his hands a bit, totally worked and then he grabbed another stick. He's a phenomenal drummer. It was a cool moment. I believe it was on an official playthrough haha

Thump n pluck gang. Bass tones are so powerful, fuzzed, clean, reverb, modulation? Bass is objectively just as versatile as the guitar. Have I mentioned my love for bass? Well let me tell you that groove is all you need man it just moves you. Ever see a man have a talk while thumping a nice line? You just listen, the rythm drives the speech in a way that focuses the listener like no other. Or an instrumental, a good bassist has the drums, bass, guitar, cello, and good knows what other noises at their disposal to create a complete piece. Bass is all you need.
Drummers are unreliable, crazy, or both. In fact I get the feeling in this video that the guy on drums is actually the bass player filling in for a drummer that didn't show up.
yes, the comments are right, this seems like a decent band practice. Try one where everyone is high and/drunk, or only two people show up, or everyone shows up and there is a fight, or everyone is late, or it’s late so no drums, or someone brought their girlfriend and it’s distracting or an amp breaks, or the power gets knocked out or the cops come because you’re too loud or everyone keeps playing whatever they want and not focusing. Guess what I’ve had all these band practices :)

My friends started a band. They only knew two chords. The drummer had three drums and a cymbal. I went to their gig. I found myself standing amongst the first two rows of chicks. And I started to learn the guitar the very next day.
As someone who used to have daily practices where the drummer would throw his sticks atleast once a song and the singer never showed up, I'm sure these guys were killing it after a few months
The guy who said “start over”, did it with such elegance and gesture that you could feel the class right there, it’s almost as if he was no less than Paul McCartney, what a professionalism in his craft, he is all in, fully committed! Such a poor performance by the drummer will not be tolerated in here! - you can read it in his eyes.
I still look forward to anything they release with a thousand times more interest than anything Ed Sheeran inflicts upon our collective consciousness! !
14 years later, where are they now? Probably I.T, fast food outlet, still at home doing nothing, married, the list is endless. But let's hope still playing music, because it wasn't that bad tbh.
Mate, had much worse! Problems normally alcohol related or just over -tired! Hope these guys got through it and are enjoying their music. The only way to learn how to play in a band is to play with a band. No books or online music sessions can cover that. Best of luck guys, love and peace.
Our bass player always turned up to practice with a hang-over, the drummer would then get bored and start slowing down like a steam engine coming to a halt which made us all look at each other and say " Break"! Our bass player earned the nick-name"Butter-fingers" and I must admit we had a blast and even developed a style to suit our situation, a cross between reggae/jazz/punk/funk. Inspite of our "floppy" style and manners we never missed a re-hearsal or gig, we were doing 2 gigs a night at our peak. Eventually we became a " concept" quartet and would do a set that was just 1 tune, the audience danced and really enjoyed themselves. Did whole gigs with just 3 strings on my guitar. The bottom line is that as long as the drummy stomps the bass drum in time all else will fall into place...and remember you can learn lot by looking and listening to total beginers! Have fun and make em dance
good thing my bands haven't recorded some of our practices, if this was the worst, you guys will do fine, keep practicing and rocking it out, and remember if you are playing to 5 guys in the garage having a few beers or 50000 in a stadium somewhere , bring the A game and leave it all out on the floor guys
My high school band had a worse beginning than this tbh, we were broke kids so we had really bad equipment. Our vocalist wasn’t committed to the band like me (guitarist) and the drummer, so he would just make up lyrics on the spot, our bass player didn’t practice regularly with us so he didn’t know the songs and when he did practice he would also just make up bass parts on the spot. It was pure chaos.
My first band- Suckore- took our guitarist’s dad’s old surround sound speakers and rigged it up as amps. We had to wait until he got drunk enough to attempt it. It became a live action game of “Don’t Wake Daddy.”
I remember those first couple of practices! The first band I joined was as a drummer that knew 1 beat and we all grew into an actual band. I loved every second of it.

I found adding the “grip” material wrap to the stick made a huge diff
Also practice dealing with stick drops.

Technique level 1000: the guitarist plays the first chords with his thumb, holding his pick with the index and middle finger, and then proceeds to play the rest with the pick. Perfect switch in dynamics. The drummer is fucking awesome with his stick tricks, and the singer...that's a hell of a high ass falsetto. Mad props to the boys.

I only play with my thumb and I can shred. Idk why its just how I learned and I like the softer sound. Plus it makes sweep picking super easy, but you can only do it with a downstroke 💀.
I can play with a pick but choose not to, I have more control over the sound of the strings with my thumb.

I really liked the bands earlier work in the first 10 seconds of the video but their career in the last 24 seconds of video really went down hill. I would like to have seen them live when they were first starting out. They were def underrated and should have been more well known. I do hope they tour again, at least for the die hard fans.

Senior year came, and I realized I was better at vocals and found out my friend Sergio was better at bass than I was. We found a new drummer, and our guitarist had gotten a lot better due to practicing. Man, the difference was night and day

Yes! Civil is a good word to describe this and maybe wholesome? IF a drummer would try to restart a song because of a lost drumstick, there will be hell to pay... And yes another classic is throwing guitars at bandmates or guitar players cutting their strings in anger because their shitty equipment can't stay in tune, adding tension to the room ;D
Vocalists refusing to be wrong when they very much are and just should admit it. Or bandmates just playing (usually a guitarist) what comes to mind between songs, which will be followed by alot of bandmembers screaming in contempt.
Was par for the course at practice. Few drum sticks get flown, a couple of "Alright just play the fucking song!"
Usually par for the course. "Shut the fk up man! Play the fking song. 1, 2, 3, 4 ...." End up nailing it perfectly, harmonies, solos, etc. "yeah, it was pretty good."

I have a terrible ear cant read music or usually dont know what key songs are in but now i lead my own band with guys who are way better musicians than i am I also do solo acoustic/one man band gigs full time for a living now! practice and persistents pays off!!! keep it up

Honestly my band started out almost the exact same way but we were a 4 piece and after months of practice we became moderately good and yeah so keep on practicing.
they now got 13 years of practice, surely they know atleast how to keep in time

And when i get closer with the other member of the band, we decided to form a new band and exclude him.

@@guitarttimman I’m a musician and can recognise that although it’s rough, there’s potential. And I don’t say that to “protect the feelings” of some people from a 14 year old video, who will never see my comment. I say it because I’ve been there, I know how it goes. Yeah it’s bad to lie and say “this sounds great!” When it doesn’t, but discouraging young/starting musicians isn’t good for “the future of music” either. I (sometimes) like things that sound rough and shitty because it means that despite not having the best skills, they have passion for music and are trying anyway, and I think that’s very cool. Or maybe they’re just having fun and not taking themselves seriously, and it could be a lot worse, but still they’re trying and that’s also cool.
If you’re in a band where everyone isn’t playing their own random thing and just gets right into it then that’s already an amazing rehearsal

EXACTLY. You're better off sucking during practice than onstage where performance is evaluated.
Had many of those practices in my early days...trust me when I tell you that it gets better as you go.
Another bit of advice: When you're playing a live show...never stop because of a mistake, keep on going just like you never missed a beat.
If you stop because of a mistake...it makes that mistake that much more noticeable.

This is actually still the early stages of a band where people don’t feel pompous and entitled after being told they’re decent, and actually CARE about what they’re doing.
as a 20 year musician of mainly bass and drums, this is potential. granted it's 14 years old now, but this is how the greats get their start. This could have been the next Blink or Green Day. and just a heads up Mr drummer man: I've played for years, and even with all the skill in the world, you will always still lose a stick once in awhile and us as drummers are almost always the reason the song gets started over lol. Much love and respect boys.
There is a video in which Bard Kolstad (something like that) of Leprous breaks a stick and for some reason his instinct was to play with his hands a bit, totally worked and then he grabbed another stick. He's a phenomenal drummer. It was a cool moment. I believe it was on an official playthrough haha

vocalist was ladies man and her girlfriend stuck with him all the time. when she busy her phone calls and messages ruined our practices many many times lol

Thump n pluck gang. Bass tones are so powerful, fuzzed, clean, reverb, modulation? Bass is objectively just as versatile as the guitar. Have I mentioned my love for bass? Well let me tell you that groove is all you need man it just moves you. Ever see a man have a talk while thumping a nice line? You just listen, the rythm drives the speech in a way that focuses the listener like no other. Or an instrumental, a good bassist has the drums, bass, guitar, cello, and good knows what other noises at their disposal to create a complete piece. Bass is all you need.
Drummers are unreliable, crazy, or both. In fact I get the feeling in this video that the guy on drums is actually the bass player filling in for a drummer that didn't show up.

yes, the comments are right, this seems like a decent band practice. Try one where everyone is high and/drunk, or only two people show up, or everyone shows up and there is a fight, or everyone is late, or it’s late so no drums, or someone brought their girlfriend and it’s distracting or an amp breaks, or the power gets knocked out or the cops come because you’re too loud or everyone keeps playing whatever they want and not focusing. Guess what I’ve had all these band practices :)

Imagine this band went worldwide, and 14 years later this video pops up, and it blows everyone’s minds to see them the moment they started to figure it out. Nearly all musicians start at this point, it’s beautiful to see. How can you become anything without being born and growing persistently?
My friends started a band. They only knew two chords. The drummer had three drums and a cymbal. I went to their gig. I found myself standing amongst the first two rows of chicks. And I started to learn the guitar the very next day.
As someone who used to have daily practices where the drummer would throw his sticks atleast once a song and the singer never showed up, I'm sure these guys were killing it after a few months
The bass player quit because his chances of getting laid were already pretty slim, let alone if he kept hanging with these fellas
The guy who said “start over”, did it with such elegance and gesture that you could feel the class right there, it’s almost as if he was no less than Paul McCartney, what a professionalism in his craft, he is all in, fully committed!
Such a poor performance by the drummer will not be tolerated in here! - you can read it in his eyes.

The Practices:
Our bass player always turned up to practice with a hang-over, the drummer would then get bored and start slowing down like a steam engine coming to a halt which made us all look at each other and say " Break"! Our bass player earned the nick-name"Butter-fingers" and I must admit we had a blast and even developed a style to suit our situation, a cross between reggae/jazz/punk/funk. Inspite of our "floppy" style and manners we never missed a re-hearsal or gig, we were doing 2 gigs a night at our peak. Eventually we became a " concept" quartet and would do a set that was just 1 tune, the audience danced and really enjoyed themselves. Did whole gigs with just 3 strings on my guitar. The bottom line is that as long as the drummy stomps the bass drum in time all else will fall into place...and remember you can learn lot by looking and listening to total beginers! Have fun and make em dance
good thing my bands haven't recorded some of our practices, if this was the worst, you guys will do fine, keep practicing and rocking it out, and remember if you are playing to 5 guys in the garage having a few beers or 50000 in a stadium somewhere , bring the A game and leave it all out on the floor guys

This is still better than any practice I ever went to.
My high school band had a worse beginning than this tbh, we were broke kids so we had really bad equipment. Our vocalist wasn’t committed to the band like me (guitarist) and the drummer, so he would just make up lyrics on the spot, our bass player didn’t practice regularly with us so he didn’t know the songs and when he did practice he would also just make up bass parts on the spot. It was pure chaos.
Man, they have a lot of space to practice. Already better than the worst band practice ever.
My first band- Suckore- took our guitarist’s dad’s old surround sound speakers and rigged it up as amps. We had to wait until he got drunk enough to attempt it. It became a live action game of “Don’t Wake Daddy.”
