Jotun is the original word for Giant. English is a Germanic language and Jotun is the protoGermanic word literally meaning Humans' Eater, much like in the Attack on Titan anime. The English equivalent word was Eoten. The term Giant came first from the Hebrew written Holy Script, which talked about creatures of huge size. The Holy Script was passed to Europe through the Greeks, which use the word Γίγας/Gigas to describe just that. Then Gigas became the English "Giant" (French: Géant)
