- Behind the scenes of owning my bounce house business, The Jump Off!
This vlog was shot in Aug 2020 and at the time my bounce house business was doing only weekend rentals, meaning we dropped all the waterslides off on Friday and picked them all up on Monday.
We have since changed our rental procedure to a more typical 1 day rental! The reason; renting all weekend was VERY damaging to the slides. They wore out so much faster than we anticipated.
So, this was an average Friday, dropping off bounce houses and inflatable water slides, and an average Monday of picking them up.
Now that we have updated our rental procedures, this is still fairly typical of a weekend, we just do the drops Saturday morning and pickups Sunday morning.

Nick quit his 16 year "career" as as a District Manager for Journeys shoes in August 2019, and while he worked to scale The Jump Off, he drove uber, sold trash that he found on the side of the road, and picked up as many odd jobs (like building swing sets) as he could.
Then in late 2019, Nick hit "The Bounce House lottery" (originleadership.com/bounce-h...) and when the pandemic shut everything down in 2020, he sprung into action and took that moment to make The Jump Off what it is today!

I’ve been in the business for years and keep around 20-30 units. To help you keep the cleanup better start using the silver heavy duty tarps! They will last longer and don’t allow any of the mud to seep through

My best friend is starting up this business this year him and his dad own a plumbing business but I do lawncare and you remind me of myself just a straight hustler man. Thank you so much!! Yeah last year was kind of the year where employees weren’t working out and I decided to fly solo on drop offs and pick ups to save money so I could expand. It worked! I’ve got 5 part time employees now, and we run 2 trucks and 2 trailers every weekend!
I'm in PA. We have a family biz here with few inflatables.. we get 4-5+ for 20ft slides. Down to 200 for 15x15 castles. Also a couple commercial tents. We been booked solid thru summer. When you run into issues getting the slide on the trailer, have you considered using a come along to pull the dolly up the ramp?

Hey Nick, great video as always. I'm out here in Southern Cali where the humidity is low and it never rains. In Louisiana how long can you leave them rolled up wet without mold forming or smelling funky?
Usually about 3weeks is as far as I like to push it, BUT when they start to smell weird you just wash them and it’s good.
I seen another video and these people use OdoBan and sprayed the tarps and that kept the mold from over growing and smelling like butt crack

It’s happened once. It’s only an issue really for sprinklers, which we don’t have down south because the humidity takes care of it plenty well so it’s rare for us.

Not anymore no I switched to daily rentals. That Vlog day was shot last year! Now that I’ve switched to daily rentals my slides aren’t getting as worn out, they’re FAR easier to clean, and as a bonus we’re making WAY more money. Like 30% increase.

When placing an inflatable on a tarp, do you pierce your stakes through the tarp? Or how do you go about holding them down?
Straight through every time no remorse! 😈 Tarp is there to protect against mud not be water tight so the holes are nbd. We rarely put them they the same spot either. New holes every time.

This is an old ass video now but most the combos in this video are 13’ wide and 28-35’ long. Unless you have some crazy unit a 15x15 should be easy. I have a MEGA old video where I pick up a 15 x 15 scroll down you’ll see it. Not very well made. Haha

Hi nick, great video. I am wondering how much is a small bounce house and big one for rents? What is the net profit per month if you do as a side hussle?
Lots of factors BUT small bouncer $120-$150 big one $200-$250. Profit per month depends on how much you rent and how many units you got and if you’re able to rent it to multiple clients a weekend etc. if you work hard profits can be $20k a month but you need units.

Wanting to find a way to reach a broader audience and a different type of customer, what would you suggest.
@@JC-qm7mr I do A LOT of old school marketing to get repeat customers and drive word of mouth. I have flyers that every customer gets and small magnets too. Then of course I still love marketplace, and I do FB ads too.

Damaged property is VERY rare when you have great customer service, but if they do something that causes damage that’s not “regular wear” I can charge them for it. I never have had to though.

Hey bro I had a quick question I got a 22ft slide that I baught but no blower wich blower do you recommend to buy for it ?
1.5 or 2.0 hp from Ez inflatables
The vinyl my bouncer is made from is so thick. It weighs 315 pounds. So difficult to roll. Yours look easier. Where did you get them?
These are all 300+ lbs. I can handle and roll 400lb slides solo. I get my units from mostly EZ Inflatables and HEC worldwide

Ones show us no prob. I have 4 regular guys and 2 more in case of emergencies and I still did all this weekends drops alone. I like it!
And get LLC now cause you are protected that way and can’t get insured otherwise.

Do you use sandbags or just stake stuff down? What about water bags vs sandbags - seem easier to clean. How much weight do you need for anchoring down with sandbags/waterbags?
Always stake. Sand bags are a pain and you need 2-3 per anchor point. Water bags are worse that sand they take a LONG time to fill up and then you have to drain them later. Stakes whenever possible!

Oh man I’ll have to go check that out! So the spacewalk dolly is a great starter at $600 and can’t get you far in the game. I have a manual theJollyDolly.com that’s an absolute beast that I love for big slides especially. Jolly Dolly electric dolly is super legit too. I have an electric rollsall.com dolly that I have put thru hell and has been life changing.

Are you staking them through the tarp?
Yep. Trough the tarp, every weekend, over and over, never in the same spot. Tarp is for mud not water proof so holes don’t matter and you won’t ever notice that there’s holes in it.
Do you use a heavy duty tarp or light weight?
