Another good one Sir! I have been having a hard time finding an ASTG manual for this unit and as you know time is money. I’m still a junior builder as well so these videos really help more than you might realize!
They don't have one. You will have to use the 6T70 one. It is set up the same as far as parts stack. The vb is different and there is an orifice plug in the low reverse feed passage. But pretty much identical.
great job
Thanks
Thanks a million for this, Tom! Awesome.
Thanks
@@CurmudgeonTransmission I just finished installing my first rebuilt 6f50, whether or not successful, I hope you can please help. I was careful to make sure the snap rings were in the right location. I built the clutches out using the configuration of the old ones. The one issue I had was the end cap snap ring was really hard to get in. I had to keep the diaphragm lined up to prevent it from trying to get in the snap ring groove. If I didn't have other tools holding it as I went along it would pop out where I had already got it in. Finally, I got it with the help of my brother. The diaphragm was centered, but it seems really tight. I replaced the valve body (Sonnax reman) and solenoid body (Motorcraft) as well, with no programming of the strategy yet. After letting it run for almost an hour and doing the Sonnax recommended shift patterns sitting in my driveway. The shifts felt good, and I decided to see if I could get it to do an adaptive drive cycle, all was seeming ok, with little flare from 3rd to 4th, but not too bad. The road wasn't long enough to reach 50 MPH @2,000 RPM, seems like it may have got up to 5th. I then turned around, after putting it into reverse, which was a little harsh, it seems stuck in 5th or possible overdrive. I came home, less than a mile of driving with it still in this high gear. At home I noticed a noise coming from the Tranny, like something rubbing in a rotation, every time it rotates it hit something, it stops in drive and starts right back up in N or P. I did put a rebuilt F76 reman converter in as well. Any help you may have will be much appreciated. Thanks for the video. Jon
Sorry to hear your having trouble. If it was taking off in failsafe that is probably why you have a harsh reverse, it elevates line pressure. There should be codes stored in the system and it would be good to know what they are. Killing the engine sounds like a TC problem. But having trouble with the snap ring and the rotational noise raises concerns. Does sound like it will have to come back out, unfortunately. Double check all your work and if you do not find a problem I would say you have a TC problem. Let me know what the codes are.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission Thanks, I will get the codes. Does anything spin in relation to the end cap? It is a new TC, and I was really careful to make sure it was properly seated. Thanks a bunch, for the help. Jon, Happy Holidays.
I was watching SIU, Southern Illinois University's videos on this unit. He has a power flow chart that shows the holding patterns of the different clutch assemblies. It shows the 3-5-reverse activated in Neutral and Park. I was hearing that noise in those gears, just idling. Maybe thats where the problem is, you think? Thanks, Jon
Another great video
I appreciate that
Love your content, very informative and helpful. Im barely getting into transmissions and I wish one day I could repair (not just replace) them blind folded, im sure it takes time and a lot of patience but hey thanks for your videos and the time you invest in giving your knowledge out.
Thanks. You will get there. Thanks for watching.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission how much do you have to fill them up after a rebuild and do I have to some how fill the converter before installing?
Not trying to sound like an ass but you fill them up until that dipstick says that it is full. Book says 10.3 for 6F50 and 11.0 Quarts for 6F55. May take more, may take less. That is just a guideline. You do not want to overfill or underfill, both are just as bad. Should be checked in neutral @ 180-200F. Try to put 1/2-1qt in the converter. It should be installed with the transmission sitting on the rear cover with the input shaft pointing straight up. Converter needs to be put in straight down, no tilting, or you can cut the O-ring inside and risk torque converter codes, slips and shudders.
O conversor no blindado 1 q vejo asim kkkkk eses buraco d formiga pirque no sao direto ????
This did not come out correctly in the translator. I don't understand the question.
What is the difference between 6F50 and 6F50N and how do I know which one I have I got a 2007 Lincoln MKX
They are the same. Some websites put the N after it, some don't. Now there is a 6F50 and a 6F55. The 55's are a little beefier. The only way to be positive is to look at your RPO code. On the tag in the door there will be a letter or number. Just to the right of the axle code there will be TR. Code C is 6F55, J is 6F50.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission another question I’ve gotten to rebuild my tranny 6f50 and the company I believe sent me GM version of the bigger clutches which do not fit the other smaller ones fit fine and I noticed that the Ford ones and GM have a different clutch material design is it ok if I leave those like that or do I have to change them thanks
Even though they look alike the Ford and the GM version are not the same. Maybe you might get by with the clutches. I would not risk it. You may end up with shifting issues and that is a lot of work to redo if you do. Since you are right there get the right ones would be my suggestion. Also make sure they give you the Ford 3-5-R cushion plate and not the GM. You will end up with clearance problems. The Ford one is thinner. .045 thick I believe, if I remember correctly.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission hey sorry I have another question 😅 when I removed the trans I got it out from the bottom and had a hard time getting it out and broke the black cover I even removed the motor mount and lifted the motor up a bit. to put it back up form underneath which do you think is best to face the transmission or is it the same no matter what way to rotate it. Thanks
That is the way we do it. From the bottom. Top of the transmission (linkage side) pointing straight up. Don't forget to put the torque converter in with it laying on the back cover. Make you a couple of handles to lower it in straight.
The only thing that may have made things a little better is if you would identify the clutch packs as they are assembled. Nothing crazy…….low/reverse, intermediate, 3,5,R, etc. In some of your other videos you might do a quick check of steel/friction thickness. I haven’t measured mine yet but I have kept them together and marked. I know that if they were to get mixed up and have different dimensions it would be handy to know approximately where you need to be.
If you need info like that go to my Instagram and I can send you stuff like that. The rebuild videos on Patreon will have all of that at the end of the videos also. Those take a ton of time to do so it is a slow go but I am getting them up.
Well please don’t think I don’t appreciate the time you put into the video! Just something I thought might be helpful. You do a great job and I’m sure it’s challenging to get everything anyone might be looking for covered. I normally pick up a manual for every unit but for whatever reason there isn’t one for this particular (Ford version) model. I would have had a much more difficult time without the information provided here. Thank You!!!
ATRA has one for it.
Отличная сборка крута
Thanks
How hard is it to remove and replace that TR sensor while transmission is still in vehicle? I keep getting a P1702 code. Also while the cover is off would you recommend replacing the tss and oss sensors also? I’m talking about a 2009 Ford Edge with 164K miles.
The hard part is getting the nail out. It is not terrible. I use a heel bar to get it out. Not a bad idea to replace them both while you are there.
Merci
What is the disk for speed؟
Not understanding the question. Sorry.
Stupid question: how in the world do you put gear oil in the diff? Ive read what seems like all of prodemand and scoured the internet but have not found a single clue about where the fill plug is or if it even has one. any help would be greatly appreciated.
On this transmission you don't. It is a common sump and uses the same oil as the transmission.
