This is how I always hoped the Crab King fight would eventually be, and how I imagined the devs probably hoped it would wind up too! The idea is just so cool, a modular boss fight that encourages variety since things get DANGEROUS if you use any one gem color too heavily, but if you have a way to deal with that buff easily, then you’re rewarded for that too!
I do wish cks geyser was still a thing before the ice phase, as long as it isnt with another attack it would be awesome to dodge (without the awful boat clamping claws)
@@galp3048 geysers were a problem due to claws stopping you from moving at all at 500 health per and 2 claws at least at the start os phase 2. It ISNT when you can freely move your boat around, now that claws dont stop movement and are a lot less tanky. You can also just reduce number of holes as its just a numbers tweak, to make it 2-3 small holes with 1-2 gems that are linked to geyser, 3-5 has 4-5 etc. Not to mention that these would have to be spread across and area, meaning unless you dont move your boat at all you wont even take more than 1 leak at a time. This sorta makes me think of 'if you tank klaus you will die'. Like yea, you can dodge

I agree with you on green gems making fight the best. Moreover if you're using regular boat, you can row towards crab king until you hug him and stand in the middle. Claws are actually unable to reach you and cannon towers are ignorable with any armor. Now of course people usually spend green gems on more important stuff but green gem is probably the best to use for easy crab king.
The fact that if you use one of each gem and take any random gems after makes it really good for beginners too, they don't need to reed the wiki or watch a tutorial to have a good setup and the veterans can use these to make it faster for speedruns, great fight overall in my opinion and I can certify that it is a fun fight now.
Did my first solo crab king yesterday. Was really fun pearl, purple and green gems. No flute and worked really well. Only 2 of my boats did not make it back home
Wait were these changes added on the live version? Or in the beta version? Because just yesterday or the day before i went testing CK on live for like 3 hours trying to find a solid way to beat him. Because when the threshold was 4, any single gem + pearl just made it all level 2 (except for orange gems). The only possible combination i found was 1 orange + 7 green + pearl after 3 whole hours of testing. Changing the threshold to 5 makes it a much healthier boss fight.
It's really interesting that two lines of balance changes were all it took to make crab king a customizable boss fight. (You know, like it was supposed be). Also, it's funny how both customizable boss fights have 6 customizations now. (Even though one of them has 8002 othed combinations that no one will use)
Hi jazzy! I have a question about input delay. I mostly play with my friends on a dedicated server with ping 50-70ms at max or using my own pc for hosting. Even when i host for myself without dedicated server i get a slight input delay. And while don't starve alone kinda fixes that it also somehow reduced my fps in the caves by, like 20 frames (with the game capped at 60) Is there a way to fix that delay without lag compensation? Or might it be in theory something else?
My favourite character is Wormwood. Either in full bloom to pacify killer bees, or with the talent that does the same thing, bring like 3 stacks of killer bees. Then go all purple gems. It literally does not matter about break points or whatever, sleep resistance and health does not matter. On each intermission phase, drop a stack of killer bees and ignore adds. The killer bees will hold the add aggro, so you can throw damage on boss. During main phase, play defense. Take out towers, heal your boat, heal yourself, replace broken armour. Bada bing, bada boom. It'll be a bit easier if you throw a houndius shootius on your boat, but it's not necessary.
I still think this right is fundamentally broken. Players who do not read the wiki have no way of knowing how the boss's mechanics work other than failing over and over again with very little feedback to go off of. DST doesn't like to give players information in-game, but the only way to really succeed is if you do have that information. You'll notice the only players who are doing really well at the game read the wiki, and also read all the patch notes of the game to learn all the tiny changes between versions so they can come up with new strategies.
I mean, yes and, that’s sort of been the nature of DST since lategame progression was first introduced. There’s little intuitive about the progression of Fuelweaver and Celestial Champion isn’t much clearer. So while I get your general qualm, I don’t really consider it a valid criticism of the mechanics of this fight. This is an indie game. Community sharing of info is to be expected.
@@JazzysGames I'd honestly say that Celestial Champion is even less clear than Fuelweaver. It is such a long chain of events you need to do covering the ruins, ocean, archives, and mainland. I'm saying that and Celestial Champion is my favorite boss. Honestly I'm just bitter with how things are being handled right now. I've always been a wiki reader and guide watcher. That being said, I have friends who can't really enjoy the game to the same extent that I do because they don't like reading the wiki. Reading the wiki takes some of the joy of experiencing things yourself away, and in the endgame, it's not really an option to just experience things without knowing about it going in. Don't get me wrong, this version of Crab King is INFINITELY better than what we had before. Being that no one ever wanted to fight him, and many people just used bees. I'm happy they bumped the thresholds of the tier two gem changes to 5 gems instead of 4. It makes the fight much more bearable. DST is my favorite game. No game has persisted in my main rotation as long as this one has. I just feel a bit disappointed with some of the decisions in the updates.

I think the orange level 2 is bugged, I brought 15 bunnymen and with just 5 oranges we could not break the rock, it just kept staggering his healing animation. Over a third of his health was gone, but the rock dosnt break, which does not feel intentional to me.
Sadly still a trash bossfight, 0/10, because it gives you a stupid impossible dilemma: either you take care of the towers and CK regens ALL HIS HP, or you don't and they absolutely wreck your boat even with just Pearl's pearl and nothing else boosting them. I used my archaic boat, and it took 250 damage and lost half its crab king bumper sticks in just a single rotation, this is stupid. As long as boats can't get 80/90% armor like the player can, they should not be able to be targeted, it is legitimately so stupidly dumb, the devs clearly do not play the game at all. The only strategy I have found is to cheese the boss by bringing 20 merms as Wurt, nothing else can work, the design is still gutter trash. STOP MAKING THINGS ATTACK BOATS THAT CANNOT BE ARMORED IN ANY CAPACITY KLEI. BOSSES SHOULD FIGHT THE PLAYER, NOT BOATS.
You absolutely do not need to take out every single tower, I assure you. Not all towers will be in attack range of your boat when you go to cancel his healing, just those close to where you park. The time to destroy towers is immediately after the healing phase, not during. Make a general safe space for your boat and then go for the boss again. If you don’t like dealing with towers then you don’t need to boost them. Use other gems, that’s kind of the point of this video.

Fight is simply very unintuitive in its priority and mechanics, guess i'll have to wait for a Jakey video or something to see the fight, it's a typical example of a fight that isn't doable with a normal character without training dozens of times in practice world or looking up guides. When will Klei understand that CK is supposed to be a midgame boss, not as dangerous and complex as AFW...

The problem of the geysers is the instakill thing, it is hard to deal with many holes in time.

update: 4 stacks of killer bees in a bundling wrap and then burning it decimates the ck in under 3 minutes.

What Is alone mod?
It makes it so the caves are not active while you're on the surface to lower input lag and improve performance
The mod is for solo only

Yeah it’s weird, it just resets the arm lifting animation but there’s no rock breaking animation like when you land enough hits to cancel.
