Bobby Fischer’s opening TRAP

- Featured is the excellent and instructive opening trap that was played in the chess game between Bobby Fischer and Samuel Reshevsky from the 1958/59 U.S. Chess Championship. The opening is a Sicilian, Accelerated Dragon with Reshevsky attempting to exchange his knight for Fischer’s light-squared bishop on move 8. Fischer’s continuation must have been a great surprise to Reshevsky, who after only 12 moves, was without a queen and losing to the 15-year-old Fischer.
I'm a self-taught National Master in chess out of Pennsylvania, USA who was introduced to the game by my father in 1988 at the age of 8. I am a simple man, I see Jerry's video, I click it.
Simple men, unite!
So say we all
Not only simple but also jobless 😂
Anyone else been watching Jerry so long that you’re now a fully grown adult? I was 15 when I discovered him, im now 26 🤣
Same! The most surprising thing for me is that his voice hasn't seemed to change even a little bit in all these years !
Yep. He's one of the few early UA-cam content creators that's still around. I've been following him since about a year after he started. Great quality all the time, even when the quantity isn't high.
I was 15 now im 23😢
Same😂
Yup. I was in high school, now I’m 27. This was one of the first UA-cam channels I ever started watching consistently. My favorite videos were those when Jerry used to play in those online blitz tournaments and he was fishing-poleing everyone. Those were so funny 😆
I like the way you're highlighting squares to think about
I love how you highlighted those squares with neon colored lights. Really sets you apart from Gotham chess and agadmator.
The way Reshevsky held his ground after losing his queen and the amount of work Fischer had to put in to win this game astounds me even more.
I just joined a chess club.
Watching your videos has improved my chess a great deal...thanks for all your help.
👍 great to hear
9 years ago it was in the playlist . Now it reborns 😅
Thanks, I never get tired of watching Fischer's games!
Beautiful thought process here. Thanks for sharing, Jerry.
Jerry makes the *best* analysis videos, it's my top YT Chess channel. 👍
Thx Jerry😊
Superb. Every opponents move changes their control of squares.
I had the luck to have almost the same position (a6 instead of 0-0, the combination is even better with a6) one week after seing this game. It’s nice to have a free win.
I remembered the trap. It was a very fine game and a useful lesson. Thanks Jerry.
Very GOOD !! A-1 presentation !! you're a good narrator-- thanks chessworks !! do some more games !! if you please..
The highlights are a bit blinding but I really like this concept. When an opponent's piece is moved away, you should at least consider which of your pieces can effectively exploit the squares it is no longer defending!
Nice summary, Jerry, and great advice on positional analysis.
How I wish I'd had access to your videos 50 years ago! I've learned so much from them.
Fischer was Genius
In his words…’a genius who plays chess’
Hello Jerry. I thank you for all the effort you put in explaining chess games. You helped me to get a different view on many positions and moves.
I didn't find the sequence, but I did catch the pins and positional tactics, and figured on the pawn push to start. Interesting it opened up like it did!
Fischer employed this trap after reading about it in a Russian chess magazine. Fischer was a dedicated student of chess.
This was very educational, also fun to see Fischer clean up the board.
Great analysis loved that game. Keep up the good work!
Really liked the new edits! Loved your video, as always!
Very good learning lesson sir, please requesting a video about middle game tutorial and end game tutorial for your next featuring video. As always God bless...
Thanks Jerry for this inspirational video, Coooooollll !!!!!!!
Thx for posting!!
Wow. Such a well known opening! Such a subtle trap - the jaws close slowly but inexorably.
At least in the hands of a master like Fisher.
hello thanks for the video nice game, move 9 and already hitting strong with that e5 push, it must have been a surprise
Man, sacrifices are the gateway but they are so hard to see and must be rooted in non risky airtight play
Nice glowing squares
Thank you for sharing.
Fisher shot at Reshevsky's feet and said, "Dance!"
All right, you wise guy. DANCE!! (Gunshots)
*looney tunes dance music*
(Gunshot)
Take it Sam!!
*looney tunes dance music*
*Falls down mine shaft sound effect*
Poor little maroon
Hi Jerry, it's everyone.
What a shot!
Jerry the GOAT
More blitz tournaments please!
brilliant
I had this happen to me in a game on Lichess. It was a 5min blitz game, and immediately my Spidey senses went wild, but I just couldn't remember the sequence, so it took me 2min to me two minutes to find e5. I was super happy I got to replicate this game. Well not entire game, but I checkmated the dude shortly.
Um Jerry i think u already showed this game
Why didn't the algorithm recommend this sooner :D
Love for you Jerry
good
I found e4-e5 after massive hint
You already showed this game a long time ago
I get annoyed when opponents play on down a queen in rapid; can’t imagine being OTB in a classical game with the opponent playing on another 30 moves. Wonder how Fischer felt 😂
dunno about those highlights
Imagine him crying
I found it.
In the few seconds I had I found e5 and knew Bxf7+ was forthcoming. If I had the time I probably would have found the continuation. I'm your garden variety 2100 patzer.
No one asked or cares
i didnt like this new highlight-system because i cant see those pieces.
The shapes didn't change, they're just bright

Why do you post such cringe
@I think he just finds Jerry’s videos relaxing 😅
Hi Jerry.
Try watching these at 1.25x speed. So much better!
But then how am I gonna fall asleep?
Much prefer the original cadence and speed..
Great. I'll be thinking of you as I'm halfway into my next video, lol.@@MrSnufullahfahgess
@@tofinoguy have fun with that old man
hahahahaha@@MrSnufullahfahgess
You said ij the video that the professional would be seeing the way you are seeing.. so you are pro and we are not? I am filing FIR against you for rascism. Apologize before the case is filed. You are a rascist.
@mrcheeseeatingshow7286 Hey cheese, the word you're looking for is RACIST. Six letters, not seven. One S, not two. Same goes for RACISM. And no, Jerry is not a racist, you're just stupid. And btw, the word is "in" not "ij".
the 'trap'' created thru the opponents mishaps. my fav.. congrats on 2nd place @ Team ChessNetwork~! jerry i never got my gmail notify of the streamers battle just the lichess one~!! strange ... 4 and 1 at the goal... ~!!! 4-2 jerry~~ what did i say 11? = 0🏈 how bout that #95!
Oooh, my. I sure like the bright yellow/gold highlight glow. Very creative, Jerry.
As to one person's comment this game was previously covered, well, it's always a pleasure to see the genius mind of Bobby Fischer at work. I'm delighted to watch this brilliant game many times- especially with the golden glow of highlight victory.
