Capablanca’s effortless Ruy Lopez Exchange victory

- Featured is the chess game between José Capablanca and David Janowski from the 1914 St. Petersburg Tournament. Capablanca, the Chess Machine, makes it look too easy in the Ruy Lopez, Exchange variation. After Janowski castles queenside, we reach an opposite sides castles position. Capablanca then undertakes a simple plan of attack that Janowski knows is coming but is still unable to defend against it properly.

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. I like Lasker and Alekhine and it would be nice to see more of them.
the GOAT of chess commentary Jerry. you're the man. no click bait, no drama, just chess. I really respect that about you man.
Da classics from the classiest
Straight to the video
typically elegant and simple from Capa, who was known to be lazy, vain and invincible, I have managed the first two. thanks Jerry.
More Capablanca videos please! He is my all time favourite chess player and there doesn’t seem to be enough of his games on UA-cam.
When you can make it look easy, you are a true master.
Simple and elegant
Jerry : What did you think of this game?
Me : Jerry's freaking awesome, that all i thought.
Capablanca had a great quote about this game. "Frankly my Dave, I don't give a damn"
You get an instant thumbs up for every video. I want to see you receive the attention you deserve. Love your quality content and can't wait for the next live twitch coverage!
Great coverage of that game. I really enjoy your comments. Keep up the good work.
The great Capablanca! So direct, so precise!
That's a city in Morocco! You clearly meant Casanova
@@2eanimation thanks, darn spellchecker, after upgrades too!
I love how calm and flexible Capablancas playstyle was, for me way more interesting than Fisher's who like always followed the same plan
Thank you for your clear, wise, and very enlightening explanations
Capablanca, the master of the double check.
There’s one over the e in Jose and one over the u in Raul.
Great analysis!
The best voice of any chess analyst. You really should be doing live commentary.
I really appreciate your giving the reasons for some of the (not obvious to me) moves, such as which rook to move behind the queen. Great job as usual!
😎👍
You have a gift for teaching! Thank you. I've seen many chess content videos, but you're the first who gives a true understanding of the big picture and plans as the tactics are made.
Thank you
Great vid - Capa was a monster!
Thank you 👍
Thanks Jerry, World Class Mentoring. !!!!!!!!!
Every time i watch one of your videos my rating goes up a point or 3....thx for your great content.
💪
Capablanca continues to amaze! Thanks, Jerry.
Oh, you want some feedback? I've got your feedback right here: I love you, Jerry.
I disagree, this speed is sufficient for me to understand what's happening, others are just spitting incomprehensible lines
Very simple and Nice. Thanks
Hi Jerry it's everyone. Keep these excellent games coming as well as the amazing commentary!
Rook selection is the good lesson learnt for that matter piace selection to defend or attack.
Check out game 83 from the 25th TCEC Superfinal.
Nice one, Jerry .😊
Thanks Jerry , Excellent example for winning the game by advancing pawns !!!!!
Thx Jerry 😊
thanks Jerry!
Thanks, Jerry.
Love Capa games!
Capablanca one of the greatest
Love Capablanca
Smooth
All his games seem effortless
Capa was a master in the R.Lopez exchange. He and Lasker.
:47 well if i were playing Capablanca or someone of his ilk, id probably be like ,"yup makes sense"
If it were someone on my level... i might learn backgammon 😂😂😂😂
I chose the correct rook but not because I noticed the check a few moves later, I still pat my self on the back tho.
Simple and powerfull
Rollin
Oh it is Capablanca. That explains why I couldnt understand much of this game
Larry Bird was known to tell his opponents exactly how he was going to beat them then doing it. That's why they call him Larry Legend.
Choice of rook employment well explained though only 3 move think ahead process but mostly missed, thanks.
I think it was Vidmar who said that playing against Alekhine you never knew what to expect. On the other hand, playing against Capablanca you knew what to expect but you cannot prevent it.
He was such a genius
i feel shit every time i play chess period
Takes a lot of practice and honestly some people are just born with the skills lol
@@MrSnufullahfahgess im born with 0 talent
Well if you can still enjoy chess by watching videos that's good right? One of the many positive aspects of living in the 21st century
@@arnoudh6203 but this game literally drives me insane, like seriously i feel like im loosing my mind, i get extremely aggressive and loose my mind every time I lose, its literally the worst dementor i ever have and the least self control when playing this game.
@@Skymaaan Yeah it hard to come to terms with the fact that humans(including you and also me) are not good at being rational/logical and its frustrating to not have everything under control, but still, chess is a good game to own up to that, and if youre not having a good time playing then dont play
Always the wrong rook.
Hi Jerry.
Humiliation, showing what he was going to play and how simple it could be to win😅
On one hand it's great. I've learned a lot. Wouldn't have thought Rb1 is best. However, these days even 1500s wouldn't have played Nh6. Just about everyone and their lost cousin would have played h5 without a moment of hesitation.
Also, I personally didn't like ...Bxe3. I don't like reinforcing the centre like that. I would have played Qd6.
You have no idea how great Janowsky is, even Capablanca praise him as a chess genius. Nh6 didn't lose the game, it was the other movea that did him in.
Jerry are you an IM, or GM

I'm loving these videos - once I learned how to play them at 1.25 speed.
I used to speed up Jerry’s videos, but then I learned to appreciate their relaxing nature at normal speed. Very calm and informing. I don’t like to rush through them anymore.
@@Fajowski50 can't do it. I've moved on to Epic Chess.
Not one of your better ones: no analysis of what Black should have done to prevent this inexorable pawns march,of where Black went wrong - or how a computer would now deal with White's so predictable attack, if you will. (For instance, the bar at (12:07) shows the beginning of the end for Black with the "inaccuracy" move 14. ... b6 and you don't comment on/ analyze that)
I think you should rewatch the video. The best line was analyzed and an hypothetical reason was given for why black didn't follow it.
I feel the criticism is valid.
Yes, Jerry showed the correct alternative to 14... b6. But his summary (6:44 - 7:01) doesn't really honor the significance of the mistake.
Thank you.. But the criticism is wrong, for being imprecise. @@michaelmuller5856
I did and: You're right. I take it back. Let's just say I'm not completely satisfied. But indeed, he does explain. @@IIIrIpI7III
