  • Welcome back to The Green Yard and a How is it Growing update for our beautiful Hall Avocado Tree! I did a planting video 2.5 years ago when this tree was only three feet tall ( • Planting a Hall Avocad... . It has been thriving in it's spot in our Tropical Food Forest, which is just over four years old. You can view a tour of our whole Tropical Food Forest here, • Touring a THRIVING Fou... .
Avocado trees can do very well here in the Phoenix area, especially once they become more established. These trees require a certain microclimate in order to survive through our hot, intense summers. Generally they require morning sun and then shade starting around 10am. This can be done through natural (a tree) or artificial (A shade cloth) shade. One of the nice things about our avocados is that they do very well through our winters and do not require any cold protection. In The Green Yard, we have our Hall Avocado position behind the trunk of our large Male Mulberry tree. This trunk provides the necessary shade for our tree, although some afternoon sunlight does sneak through from time to time and I still have a few sunburned leaves. I have found success with heavy mulching of our Avocado tree as well as the application of agricultural sulfur and fish emulsion.
This tree did flower and hold onto a small avocado until it got to the size of a dime. I'm hoping that with it's increased growth this fall, our Hall Avocado will actually flower and fruit next year. If you have any questions about our Hall Avocado or any of our other fruiting or flowering trees please comment below. It was nice to see you're not above the cheap bastard sales at Green Life Nursery. Would be interested to hear what you picked up today and what the best deal you've ever gotten at any of our local nurseries/growers.

Hello @chosen2030, thank you for watching and commenting! I am definitely not above the cheap bastard sales at Greenlife, in fact, those sales are where I've purchased a lot of my trees. I did actually go today and I purchased a big 7g lemon drop Mangosteen, a 3g Canistel and a 3g Jamaican Cherry tree. I think the best deal I have seen at a local nursery were today with the 25g Jaboticabas for $145. I did not purchase one of those trees, even though I wanted too. I will have to think about the best deal I've gotten and respond later.

Hello @aliciahernandez2285, thank you for watching and commenting! I appreciate you subscribing to the channel! That is amazing that you have an avocado tree in a 3 gallon pot. I don't blame you for being scared to move it outside. Personally, I only have experience with growing Avocados in the ground so I may not have the best advice for you. If it were me, I would put it outside now, in a spot that still gets shade starting around 11am. I have found that even in October, my avocado can get sunburnt if we have a really hot day. I hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.
