My fellow ex Brooklynite, I really enjoy your videos and watching our shared obsession with collecting fruit trees. My current in the ground avocado trees are Brogdon, Catalina, Thompson Red, Marcus Pumpkin, Nishikawa, Maria Black, OohLaLa, Utuado, Simmonds, and Donnie. The most productive tree in my zone 10a yard is the Utuado . All of my avocado trees were planted from 3 gallon size pots and have been planted less than 3 years.

The avocados in the store have also gone through high heat baths to kill anything on it or in the fruit and also being frozen to ship. Not to mention being picked very early. Any fruit in the store is better for you and more tastier to grow at your house, even if it’s something you can get anywhere. But I’m sure you already know this Paul

Great video, what exactly is Top Working? Im guessing you cut off the top of the mature tree and graft a different variety onto the existing wood? How exactly is it done? Id love to see a video on that. I have a 15 year old pinkerton i believe that i got from Excalibur and the fruit is not good was going to pull it out but if i can use the root stock for a more desirable variety might keep it. Also how was the fruit from Oro negro? Have s small one growing in a pot

Love your avocado trees, Paul! DO NOT pick Choquette until November at the earliest, or they'll be very watery-textured and you'll be disappointed. The longer you leave them on the tree, the more oil (and flavor) they'll develop. (I have a lot of experience with Choquette.) I didn't have much luck with Oro Negro either. It didn't produce much, then stopped growing. If you like sapodilla, that's one tree you can plant in the front yard near the street. (I do like them, not everyone does, as it's so sweet, non-juicy, with no acid balance.) No one will ever steal them!
