I still can't get over that stat about Brady having a better winning percent in the playoffs when throwing three INT's than Rodgers' winning percent when throwing three TD's.

@@angelmendez9365 He ran for a touchdown, and do you remember that game saving tackle that Tom Brady once made to help his team to the super bowl?
      yeah...
That's literally what Aaron Rodgers did in that game and no one talks about it. Like I guess we only care about an amazing feat if the decorated player does it. The Bears defense that year was easily among the best in the league, and he also had a combined 283 yards. I'm willing to admit that TD:INT ratio isn't the only important stat so I hope you don't think it is (and you won't hear me purely talking about Rodgers' 2020 48:5 TD/INT ratio. Instead I prefer to use stats that compliment each other so that it gives you a more all around look at how impressive what he did was (he didn't just have a 48-5 TD/INT ration, he also had one of the highest completion percentages in history and he isn't the check and dunk (or rather dink and dunk) quarterback that Drew Brees is. For instance, Rodgers in 2020 in the red-zone had a QBR of 99.2. This is impressive because QBR is a rating on a scale of 0 ( being atrocious) to 100 (being literal perfection). What makes it even more impressive is that it wasn't just in one game, as this can cause stats like passer rating or QBR to be an anomaly due to not being a large enough of a sample-size, but a full 16 game season so that there were many opportunities to screw that near perfect QBR up). Next time, do some research because I could show you stats like how Tom Brady has a higher winning percent in playoff games where he throws 3 INT'S than Aaron Rodgers' winning percentage in playoff games where he throws 3TD's. I've debated idiots who thought winning was 60% on the QB and 40% on the rest of the team (at least 30 other players), and I'd prefer not to confuse another neophyte brain with hard data driven analysis, so save me some time and buzz off.

    • @drewpocernich2540

@@angelmendez9365 You also ignore that his average QBR in conference championships is about 62.7. Well above average, and that should be more than enough to win games, but his defense allows a QBR of over 80 (which has company with only some of the best single season QBR's to have been recorded, and that's the average. The highest QBR of that group is 95.6 and it came from Colin Kaepernick (in laymen's terms: one of the worst quarterbacks to have ever been in a Super bowl was allowed to post a nearly perfect stat by one of the Green Bay defenses Rodgers had to overcome). You also seem to forget that that one touchdown Rodgers scored in that NFC Championship game LITERALLY WAS THE DIFFERENCE IN THE GAME. He made multiple game winning plays in that game and you criticize him for it like some of the best players of all time have never won games where they played like shit (despite the fact that Brady has a higher winning percent in the playoffs when throwing 3 INT's than Rodgers' winning percent in the playoffs when throwing 3 TD's). Very scientific of you. You so smort.

Because Brady will throw a bad INT but then as bad as it was, he plays great and carries the rest of the game. He'll make a bonehead throw but then still is great enough to win the game.

    • @drewpocernich2540
      @drewpocernich2540 3 роки тому +32

@@xmontovanillix here’s the problem with Rodgers even attempting to make come backs.
The team around him plays horribly like how in 2016 there were TWO fumbles from HB’s in the red zone, and his defense gave up 44 points. Brady will put up 3 INT’s, 2 TD’s and win, while Rodgers puts up 4TD’s, 1 INT and losses. You won’t find a game where Rodgers played as badly as Brady did in the 2006 divisional round against the Chargers and still win the closes thing to that 3INT, 2 TD performance that won was his 2010 NFCCG and he’s played much better than that in NFCCG’s so don’t pretend that just because they won that it was his best NFCCG performance. There are numerous occasions where Rodgers led a clutch drive in the playoffs and the defense died on him. Then in games where his defense shows up a lot of his offense doesn’t like in this past NFCCG like how Equanimeous S.T Brown was assigned to run a pick route and failed (how? It’s the simplest route possible), or Aaron Jones giving Brady the ball at the 7 yard line, or Mike Pettine’s 20 brain cells. To make a come back you need a team that plays well, or an opposing team that completely collapses (like the Falcons in 2016, or the Packers in 2014).

I'd argue that the Saints have had two 'dynasty' periods under Drew Brees, but they've been overlooked because despite being championship caliber in the regular season, they kept having the brass ring pulled away. In the same way that people often overlook the four years in a row under jim kelly that the bills lived in the SB as being a 'dynasty.'
from 2009-2013, Saints were a force to be reckoned with, barely losing to the 49ers, getting bested by the Seahawks a couple of times in close games, and while yes they went 7-9 in 2012, the ONLY reason they weren't superbowl contenders that year, based on the roster they had and any fan who watched the games that year will tell you, was the coaching; Payton should never have been punished for that ridiculous bounty scandal, and Kromer and Vitt didn't have a snowballs chance of keeping the fire lit.
And for the last 4 years, tell me there has been a single soul that would have been surprised to see the Saints in the SB? four years, four basically last second loses, Two straight robberies. and a lot of the defense collapsing in the playoffs, and not playing to even a quarter of their own regular season standards.
The saints had to go through two rebuild periods because of the front offices inability to draft or acquire defensive pieces or an offensive line, and as a result Drew having to play catchup for most of those years, and having to throw under significant pressure, to recievers that were similarly underappreciated. These problems were seemingly fixed with the 2017 front office changes, and one can hope that maybe even in a future without Drew they can be successful. If you measure a 'dynasty' only by championships, than no. But if you measure it by long term (3+ years) and consistently dominant performances, I would say the Saints have done it twice,

2012 was so historically bad. I've seen Patriots fans complain about their 2011 defense which they made the Superbowl with. While I admit their defense was pretty awful, the 2012 Saints we're so horrendous finishing 7-9 is a God damn accomplishment. The Saints defense gave up over 7000 total yards of offense. The Saints scored 28.8 points per game while their defense gave up 28.4 points per game. This is with Brees having a 5000 yard passing season, 43 TDs and 19 interceptions. Given this is a per game average, it essentially points to the Saints basically not being able to make any ground no matter how many times they scored because their opponent would score almost instantly, with one total fluke game against Tampa Bay where the defense somehow held them scoreless. 4 of their losses were 1 score or less with another 2 being by 10 points or less. But 7000 yards of offense and 48 total touchdowns surrendered to their opponents. Almost no hall of fame QB has ever had a defense that bad, even that famed 2011 Pats D wasn't that bad. They gave up 6500 yards and 39 touchdowns and 21.4 points per game. Matt Ryan's defense gave up 25.4 points per game when he was an MVP.

Basically, no qb is perfect game to game no matter what fans and the media want you to remember. This is apparent when you show games where Drew struggled. The key is coming to together at the right time so that, even if the qb only plays mediocre, the team will play well overall and win. That did not happen much for Drew. More for some other guys. I always say the easiest way to win in the NFL regardless of qb performance is to protect the quarterback and sack the quarterback.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Every QB is gonna have a bad game. They even have multiple bad ones in a row. The difference is the margin for error, however. For a guy like Brees or Rodgers, it’s slim. For a guy like Brady, as long as he shows up for 1 or 2 quarters, he can play like ass the rest of the game and still likely win.

  • @clark2501

For just bad luck in playoff losses, you could also look at his lone playoff game on the Chargers in 2004 too. Almost a 74% completion percentage on 42 attempts for 319 yards and 2 TDs to 1 interception. Pretty solid game from him, but they lost in OT because his kicker missed a 40 yard field goal that would’ve won it. They then lost on the ensuing Jets possession after they marched 60 yards downfield to kick a 28 yard field goal. I know it’s not pertinent to the video considering it’s talking about the Saints years with him, but it just adds to the amount of bad luck he’s had in the postseason.

    @CoCoa504 3 роки тому +15

Brees is the 🐐 & I'll explain why.
    - He's the most accurate QB in NFL history (Has 7 seasons with a 70% completion rate).
    - Holds more single-game, single-season, & career accoldes than any QB in NFL history.
    - He NEVER had a pro bowl/all pro WR until Thomas came along when Brees was just about out of his prime. (Peyton had Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Demaryous Thomas, & a prime Emmanuel Sanders, Brady had Moss for a few seasons & Welker, & Rodgers had Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Greg Jennings, & Davante Adams).
    - He's had to carry his defense more than any QB in NFL history. (In terms of PPG, he's had only 4 top 10 defenses in 20 seasons so only 24% of his wins came with a top 10 defense. Brady on the other hand has 85% of wins with a top 10 defense).
    - He also had A LOT of pass attempts in the seasons he threw for 5,000 yards which is one reason for the int total.
    - He is 2nd all time behind Peyton in game winning drives & would be 1st if his defense didn't just blow so many games.
    - He's came 2nd in the MVP voting 4 times & was blatantly robbed in 2009.
I could go on but moral to the story is that football is a TEAM sport so comparing QB's based solely on rings & wins is just flawed. For example, Brady has thrown 21 td's & 17 int's in 14 conference championship games but is 10-4 in them because of his defense keeping him in the game. Brady could afford to make mistakes in the playoffs unlike Brees because of his defense which is why Brady ranks 16th all time in playoff QB rating while Brees ranks 8th. Only guys ahead of him are Rodgers & QB's like Mahomes who haven't played many playoff games. If you don't AT THE LEAST have Brees in your top 5 then you're just a casual plain n simple.

Many close playoff games get undue focus put on their heartbreaking endings rather than the game as a whole. The offense was great in the clutch, but many playoff games had the team fighting an uphill battle in which both the offense and the defense had to be amazing. The SF loss coming back from 17-0 deficit mainly because of turnovers, the Seahawks and Bears shutting out the offense, the 17-0 first half against the Minnesota Miracle Vikings game, the second Vikings game with only one touchdown before the 4th, and obviously the Tampa loss were all cases where the offense either didn't score to their potential, gave up key turnovers, or both in the first half. The heartbreak finishes in so many close, close games hides why they were so close in the first place.
It's important to note that a lot of the Saints' cap during the Payton-Brees era, space was spent on their offense. Not only was Brees very expensive, but he always had quite an expensive crew around him. As a life-long Saints fan, I'd hold the offense to a higher standard because that's where our money was. Our defense playing pretty good was way more than we expected most seasons, and the games our defense was on the field most of the game because our offense couldn't cobble a drive together felt exceptionally bad. There were many games the offense was off to an extremely slow start, leaving the defense out to stem the bleeding until Payton and Brees could figure the defense out. The games you blame on "being against a better team" are in my opinion more on the offense than the defense because of this. If the offense doesn't get going, the Saints aren't going to win. Saying "these defenses were legendary" is a post hoc justification for the legendary offense not finding a way to win.
Also, the style of the Saints' offense (especially early on) makes their defense perform worse. The defense was never stellar (esp on

Completely agree with you. Payton seemed to overthink himself in the postseason, especially during the final 4-year stretch. The offense would scorch the earth for 16 games then come out ice cold in the playoffs. The defense screwed up a lot, but 17-20 the offense looked like they had to pull out all the stops to even score 20 points. The 17 vikings had an amazing defense but getting shut out until halftime was pretty awful, the 18 Rams didn't even have a good defense and the Saints couldn't score more than 23 at home, the 19 vikings barely snagged the 7 seed and the Saints scored only 20.

Maybe the spotlight should be put on Sean Payton/Mickey Loomis for not having won more than one Superbowl with Brees. After the 2006 draft, free agency - way more swings and misses. Not until they brought Ireland on did they get better in the draft (2017). But not to be outdone, Payton came roaring back reaching in the draft, negating Ireland. Then when things were turned around, Playoff Sean Payton returned, choked in the playoffs abandoning the run time and time again.

I think adding time of possession as well as average drive time are important. When the defense is forced to 180 after a short 2-3 minute drive, they’re going to be exhausted and be more likely to give up yards and points. You may trash TB for dinking and dunking but the fact is that generates first downs which gives defenses rest. I don’t know the actual stats but what I remember about drew Brees is him getting downfield quick. Idk just a though 🤷‍♂️

14:59 The broncos player who returned the kick clearly stepped out of bounds but it wasn't called back. The officials explanation was something along the lines of "his cleats are white, so it blends in with the sideline, making it hard to tell." Mf if he was inbounds there would be a gap where you could see the green of the turf. But whatever.

Also, that chart of defensive rankings really puts into perspective how lucky Brady was to have a functional defense year in and year out. That basically never happens, and you you know what else never happens? Going to another team with another amazing defense and winning a super bowl in your first year. At 43 years old, might I add. The majority of the Saints' history was sort of a parody of even a mediocre team. We've had some few notable to dominant people on our historical rosters (prior to 2006, The Sean Payton Era), such as Archie Manning, the Dome Patrol, Morten Andersen, Deuce McAllister, and so on... If I'm being honest, it's a miracle this franchise was never relocated from anytime between 1967 to 2005, as we've only appeared in the payoffs 5 times, with 1 win and 5 losses. It took us 32 seasons to get our first playoff win. I feel very lucky and grateful to have been born in the early 90s, being able to witness the best era of the Saints as a young teenager, and growing up with it to now, and having little true feeling of how it felt for older members of my family and friends who've followed the Saints since the old baghead days.
We've had plenty of playoff woes, plus a robbed NFC Championship. Despite this, I still see the entirety of the Sean Payton Era with fortune. We've become a notable and feared franchise. I see having a single ring as the icing on the cake. Plenty of legends who were on great teams never had that opportunity, such as Dan Marino, Randy Moss, and Barry Sanders. While I find it unfortunate that we never appeared in a second, third, or fourth Superbowl on otherwise legendary seasons, I'm just glad our team managed to get one.

2007: Shot poorly, committed as many turnovers as assists and was outplayed by Tony Parker.
2011: Looked extremely passive and disappeared in nearly every 4th quarter.
2014: the raw stats look decent but a lot of the points came out of reach. I don’t think he should get too much criticism for this finals. I’m pretty sure you put any other superstar in LeBrons position and the result would remain the same.
2015: obviously losing your 2 best teammates hurts tremendously. Losing that Game 4 was huge and then Curry going nuclear in Game 5 gave the Warriors all the momentum to close it out.
2017: facing arguably the greatest team of all time. Had an opportunity in Game 3 but Warriors are just too OP
2018: same thing except LeBron as a one man show can only do so much.
So while LeBron is 4-6 in the Finals which is obviously not something to be proud of. The teams he faced and some of the circumstances he himself faced were far too much to overcome hence why he was a massive underdog in 14, 15, 17, 18.

We can't Guage success by Tom Brady standards. What he did is INSANE. He played in a super bowl ever other year for 20 years. He won 7 out of 10 appearances. That's so much success its suspect. It's sketchy. And the Patriots were caught cheating 5 times during the run. That's just what we know about. 2 superbowls is still extremely impressive. You also have to take account Joe Montana got his 4 pree free agency era. He had the benefit of a much longer window for a nucleus. Teams today have on average a 3 year window of optimum performance between rebuilds. Anyways. If you don't see my point you don't know football.
