Male, mid 40s, between Norwood 1-2, lots and lots of fine hair (non-thinning) all over head except for moderate recessions in the temples area. Temple hairs fell out sometime during the 30s ages - maybe 5-10 years earlier. (Father still has almost full head of hair at age 80 but looks closer to Norwood 2 but not 3.) Is this temple recession a trait or male pattern balding? And if I undergo hair transplant at temples only, do I need finasteride, or do I fall into your trait exception? Thank you.

I'm a Norwood 6 and my hair loss has stabilized. I'm planning on having 3000 grafts from the donor zone of the back of the head and 3000 grafts from the beard planted into my head. I don't want Finesteride and will be opting only for Minoxidil. What's your opinion on this Dr?
If baldness is not yet stable and there is miniaturisation in the scalp donor, your baldness will continue to progress. The hair other than the beard hair that were planted will then continue to thin. Beard hair being not affected by DHT, will thrive if Finasteride is not being consumed.
@@hairtransplantinindia To be honest Dr, I have lost all of the hair I will lose. I have a slick Norwood 6 hair style. With this in mind, I am planning to have this hair along with my beard hair transplanted into my hair loss region. I don't see the point in taking Finesteride. Do you agree with me on this matter?
Hello Doctor I am 40 yrs old but started losing hair in my very early 20s. My hair loss has been very slow, I have some lose on the temples and some loss on the back though with a small amount of hair fibres I am able to create the illusion of a good head of hair. If I had a hair transplant would it be possible without the use of finasteride ? When I stated losing my hair I was certain I would be a Norwood 6 or 7 at 40 but my balding process has been very slow.
If you take it just for 3-6 months it should be fine. Not that some people have not had great results without Finasteride but then their baldness gene had switched off- baldness had stabilised.

Hairloss is androgenic! There is no way to prevent further hairloss if you dont stop androgens from killing your hair. Only anti-androgens like finasteride/dutesteride can safely do that. Less than 2% of patience of finasteride get side effects. I have been on dutasteride for over 3 years and never had any side effects, it's mostly mental/being scared that it will happen.
@@SemiDurakovic I understand that but that 2% statistic is so arbitrary and a lot of people take it and suffer from side effects but don’t report it. The truest number is probably 2 or 3 in every 4 people. Just consider yourself one of the lucky ones. Why did you take dutasteride instead of finasteride?
@@martykaan860 There are many studies that show telling patience about possible side effects as compared to a control group and a regular group that wasn't told about side effects increases the "chance of side effects" 3x. Which obviously shows how much of it is just a nocebo effect since DHT is actually not a hormone that has anything to do with ED. I can send u all of the studies if you want.
That high number you quote is since people do not get investigated before starting on DHT blockers. Mind you 40-50% males in the age group 25-35 are suffering from ED and lack of libido today. In these cases Finasteride would tip the balance. Finasteride is safe to take if only in the coterie that has been psychologically and medically investigated and counseled in detail.

I have lots of money so I can pay for whatever is needed...
Hi Doctor, I am 23 and have been using finasteride 1mg/day for the past 3.5 months and it has slowed my shedding down from 220 hairs a day to 150-170 hairs a day.. I still feel I am shedding a lot more than normal(50-100 hairs).. Should I wait 3-4 months more to see full effect of finasteride or should i start dutasteride since finasteride is not working as expected.(My dermatologist checked my hairs with microscope and said i do have androgenetic alopecia but i dont have extreme miniaturization/empty follicles and hair diameter is almost within normal limits).
Why not just get a hair transplant? And forget the finasteride hormone lowering drugs? You don’t need that stuff. The problem is not your hormones, but the sensitivity of your hair follicles to normal levels of sex hormones in your blood. So, replace the weak genetically inferior hair follicles with stronger ones. Easy. Androgenic alopecia IS NOT, I repeat NOT a disease, and NO competent physician in the world will tell you that! That’s like saying having dark hair is a disease. It’s complete unscientific nonsense!! Don’t listen to these Pharma people who want to sell you hormone reducing drugs!
@@torstenheling3830 Yeah i am considering getting a hair transplant but i do not want to take finastride. Transplanted hair do not need finastride to grow hairs right?
@@badcpy5430 You’re absolutely right. Transplanted hairs are already genetically resistant to the effects of DHT. Finasteride has no effect on them whatsoever. That’s why men always grown hair without finasteride on the sides and back of the head where these super- hair follicles exist in all men and from which the transplanted hair is taken.
Doctor... Have ever met a patient had stress and anxiety side effects from finastride...? Because I have stress and anxiety afer 7 month using it .. is it from finastride, ? I don't have sex sides.
Yes people are anxious when they read about it. It could also be their nature. Need to be counseled and if this anxiety is causing disruption in life and work, the drug should be stopped or you take a break.
No it will not. It only gets absorbed into the blood and becomes systemic in very low dosage. You do not gain anything. You only lose out on precious time.

yeah mate that because you didn't have hair loss until age 50, you're a rare case, you didn't even need finasteride in the first place since your sensitivity to it is nothing. Good for you I guess, but this stuff doesn't work if you're experiencing mpb at a young age.
@@theheartofus7253 It depends upon the size of the patient's follicular unit diameter and I use 0.7mm to 0.85 mm. Beard harvest can be done also with 0.65 mm in most cases.
Does androgenic alopecia accelerate hair shedding as well? Personally I have almost no natural shedding in the donor areas but a considerable amount on the top. Also thank you for your time and quality info!
This is typical of androgenetic alopecia. The speed of balding is determined by the penetration of the gene and ofcourse by epigenetic factors- lifestyle, etc.

Thanks. I do most of the work myself- counseling, formulating a customised long-term hair restoration plan, hairline design, anesthesia, harvesting, slit making, supervision of doctor led plantation team and follow-up.
Im not sure but it’s fair to say the majority of men over 60 have BPH (benignly large prostates), which is why we get up once in the night to pee like clockwork. I’ve never met a guy over about age 55 who didn’t get up at least once per night to pee. Some get up more than that. You get used to it and think if you slept the night through, like a 22 year old, there must be something wrong! Lol. I slept the night through once, like for 7 hours once without getting up and I thought I must be sick!! Lol. Yeah, you can count on having a large prostate over age 60. it’s not that bad. You get used to it. I have. But you can take medication, like Flowmax to get rid of it. Or Proscar to shrink the prostate, and that helps with slowing hair loss too.
Hi Doc. Hope you are well. Refering to point 8: I am aged 36. My hair loss has been extremely gradual over many years and is slowly receeding at the temples and a bit on the crown. My donor area is very good and quite thick .. Do you think I can omit finasteride? I am considering a transplant but would prefer not to take finasteride if possible. Thanks for your helpful content
I frankly don’t see any point in taking finasteride at all. Have the hair transplant and it will 100% restore your hair loss forever. It did with me (well, I could still use another 3000 FUs in the crown, but I never lost any hair after my hair transplant. Finasteride would never in a million years have regrown the hair in my crown anyway (it’s not all gone as it is). No one needs drugs to fiddle with their male sex hormones just over a little hair. That’s a fools error, in my opinion.
@@hairtransplantinindia Maybe I am. But there are thousands of guys like me out there. It’s everyone’s choice to take finasteride or not I guess, as long as they are informed of the risks.

Finastreide is a Class X drug and needs to be stopped clear 2 months before pregnancy. It can be restarted after conception but is still to e kept away from your partner. Watch: ua-cam.com/video/xmj7uEWAvDc/v-deo.html
in Europe, most hair transplant surgeons will REFUSE to operate on progressive patients who are not on FInasteride for at least a year before surgery. And they will ask their patients to sign an undertaking letter pledging that they will keep on taking the drug after the surgery. They do firmly believe that HT has to be coupled with a DHT blocker in order to achieve results and to protect the reputation and efficiency of their clinic/practice. Otherwise, they will not preform the surgery.
Though most of these clinics go overboard a large number of patient do need Finastreide before the procedure. Reputation needs to be protected in all regions wherever you practice!

My Dad and my uncles from both parents side aur 60+ but they didnt even lost their hair Line. My elder brother too didnt lost a single strand of hair. Then how can i have MPB or Androgenic Alopecia.
Because genetics and epigenetics works like this. Every member of the family does not get blue eyes. This is the law of inheritance. Our lifestyles have not helped any bit. The gene through epigenetic influences gets unmasked much earlier. That may be the reason in your case.

Dr I am 28 years old, have grade 5.5 baldness, as a test I used 1mg oral finastriside for 3 days, and noticed some side effects. 1) My donor area is healthy, can I skip finastriside and get a hair transplant done for about 4000 grafts, with some from beard. 2) Can i take 1 mg oral finastriside for six months, bare the side effects, discontinue after six months (praying the side effects will go away after two three months) and maybe try a lower dose after six months.
Grade 5 baldness at 28 years of age wold likely progress further for which finasteride would be needed, even after a hair transplant. Thank you.
This is likely a trait from the history you have provided. And hence Finasteride is not required.

I am 40 yrs old but started losing hair in my very early 20s.

Postop care is described in detail here: ua-cam.com/video/DX8tSXw-K9k/v-deo.html

Should i take finasteride if my total cholesterol is high?
There is no correlation.
You should wait for a full year on Finasterie before upping the ante.

Do all males over 60 have prostate enlargement?
It affects about 50% percent men in the 51- 60 and up to 90 percent of men above 80. So not all have benign prostatic hypertrophy.

A minor hair transplant procedure will settle your problem for good. Finasteride for just 6 months following the procedure.
Wow
in Europe, most hair transplant surgeons will REFUSE to operate on progressive patients who are not on FInasteride for at least a year before surgery.
