In UK you can get a refund for this and seller has to pay return shipping cost if they ask for it back, I believe. Eventually if you can’t get your money back then your credit card company can refund you. By UK law, if you don’t get what you paid for then credit card company has to cancel that charge if you request it. If more people did this then more products would be advertised honestly.
Hi I totally agree, I did manage to return these rolls in the end thankfully as I bought them through eBay and they agreed when I opened a return. You’re right, if more people returned these bad products for a refund it would force them to make better products. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch the video . Honestly I really do appreciate it. Thanks rich
What is the actual "part number" for the genuine Kapton tape? There are many types of even the genuine tapes. A specific designation number or order number would be helpful. Those links you promised 4 months ago would be a great help.
This didn't quite tell how detect the difference beforehand. Before the test. I have something called Kapten tape, I hope it is not the counterfeit tape.
Unfortunately there no way to detect beforehand unfortunately, I’ve been caught out a few times but once you find someone selling genuine tape just buy from them in future. Thanks for taking the time to watch. Rich
@@GeeTrieste that’s great news it not being fake because there are alot of sellers selling the fake stuff. I been caught out a few times.it’s definitely worth testing when you purchase a new roll. Rich
The kapton tape that’s in the video was bought from cpc farnell, they have a website at cpc.farnell.com. I have bought genuine tape from other sellers in the past on Amazon , I’ll try and get a link for you. There is so much of the fake stuff going round it really is hard to find genuine sellers. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch, I really appreciate it. Rich
Sir, I`m phone repair student live in Sri Lanka. It is very difficult for me in such a country to buy genuine products such as *_Amtech, Kester, kapton_* tape exp… So that reason can you submit low cost options for *_Flux, Solder, Solder Past, Heat resistant tape_* exp… It is very valuable for students in a country like ours. Thank you.
SDG electronics has reviews of solder and flux. Episodes #79 and #86. You could buy solder from real electronics store, wherever you buy parts like Farnell, digikey, etc. Even JBC sells solder I think.
I’ll go through my purchase list on my account and try to find the link for you, thanks so much for taking the time to watch the video I really appreciate it 👍❤️
I'm also wanna know where you bought the original. I bought my original tape on aliexpress back in 2018, but now (2022) everything is flooded with Kaptan/Koptan brand and its start to shrink at 220°C. The problem is that I couldn't find any reputable seller who sells the real stuff, Tesa has 260C, 3M has 180C tape.
@@sviktor4 Yes, aliexpress is full of chinese counterfeit. 3M manufature normal capton (Polyimide) tape, just check their datasheets. Recently I bought noname tape claimed as 260°C in local "all for phone repair" market. Salesman told me "yes, its capton". Price about $4.8..$5.5 for 1cm width x 33m roll. Tested with Quick 861DW also used for actual work. Stands 350°C long without any problem (no shrinking, no holes, no any visible changes and still sticky after 350°). So, advice is - try to ask sales in local market...
Do you use a similar tape, it's a foil type but also heat resistant? Thanks again I think the real Kapton is a bit expensive compared to the ebay knock-offs. If you double or triple layered the fake tape, would that still provide protection? Is the Kapton good for covering parts from IR or not so direct heat?
I’ve tried various types of foil tapes in the past and they are good for heat protection. If you doubled or tripled the layers it would offer more protection no matter whether it’s fake or real but the fake tape is what it is. I’d recommend using the real stuff. Heat sinking components with any heat conductive metal to absorb the heat is normally the best option . Copper blocks or coins are very good for this. Against common believe its better to use more heat for less amount of time rather than less heat for a long time. Speed is your best tool. Also if you watch my other video about the JBC mod for your hot air station, those heat shields cones are brilliant and can be used on their own without the extraction tool. I forgot to mention them in this video.
