No. It's a high temperature tape. It is not a thermally insulating tape. In fact, its thermal conductivity is very good and that's why it's used as thermal pads for power transistors.
@@rogeronslow1498 Standard kapton tape has a relatively low thermal conductivity (~0,12W/mK, about the same as wood). There are thermally conductive variants but that is not the norm. On the other hand it's very thin so it's not great for insulating applications.
what about kapton voice coil formers? are they made of tape or are they more of a molding? can they be made of tape? I've seen kapton tubes made spiral wound kapton tape, like a toilet roll tube is made of diagonally wound card layers, but I'm not sure voice coil formers are made like that. kapton or 1145 aluminium... idk, what can I get for 1" VC former?
James webb telescope is why im here lol
Kapton Tape is also indispensable in Optical Coating applications.
Good stuff,helpfully explained 😏
Thank you for explaining!
i assume when you say 2 and a half mil you mean millionths and not millimeter?
How do you know if your kapton tape is real or not? I hear that a lot of the kapton tape on ebay is fake.
Everything, everywhere, is fake.
@@Namrevetahw Yeep! I hear it's all synthetic! Sheeeeit, that's fake AF since it's not natural.
When he said 'mil' I thought milimetres, then I realised Americans call a thousands of an inch,
mils. in the UK a mil is slang for mm.
Be more American..
This is an OVERVIEW, not a REVIEW.
Noted! We edited the title. Go figure, our Englishman expert made an English mistake...
what is better in conducting heat: Kapton tape or electrical tape (vinyl)?
I'm guessing it's this Kapton shite...🤷
Can it be used for thermal insulation of car engine parts like to cover air intake and ac cooling pipe ?

It is also great for fixing international space stations after deliberate sabotage attempts ; )
Stay high!
mil is slang for a unit. Its better to say millimeter or whatever you are talking about.
In America, a "mil" is a thousandth of an inch.
He is saying what he's talking about, a mil.
@@louf7178 , better not confuse units.
No way is that a mm thick!
yep thats what i thought
He might have said "Mil" (a thousandth of an inch).
A dislike for using nonsense units like the Fahrenheit and the *thousandths* (d e c i m a l s) of the freaking inch.
[METRIC PLEASE]
This is Murcia spek it
"Nonsense"
@andywho56 They just aren't up to standard, it is a sub-par system that is out of use in every major industry.
Awe. So sad and sensitive you are
@@HeyItsEmilyLove yep, you're right, I'm sensitive to nonsense. "Cubic feet per minute" is nonsense.
