I got to speak to James Hong at a convention once. He said he LOVED getting to play such a loving father figure. He doesn’t often get those kinds of roles so he really enjoyed it.
I saw him around a few cons and at the after parties he was like ballroom dancing with this amazing partner, and telling old Hollywood stories from his career. An amazing level of energy for a dude his age. He jumped on the intercom and announced his own signing in a super dramatic almost crusty Lopan voice, and then we see him blazing down aisle to his booth. A real one.
What I love about this movie in particular is that it has a massive lesson to parents. You can try and make your child accomodate your aspirations, and desires. And get a Tai Lung. A world of regret for yourself and no sense of self like with Tai Lung (who, when looking at the scroll said "It's nothing!"). Or, you can accommodate for your child. Because a peach tree will remain a peach tree and will only give you peaches. A good teacher changes his teachings for his students. Doesn't force his students to understand his teachings. You can have a Po, someone that understands himself and because you believed in your child's potential.

I loved when he said he thought being up there is gonna be better than living his everyday life being himself, and everybody called him fat, useless, etc, he hated himself and don't wanna be himself. But then the secret of the dragon scroll it believe in yourself and when he fought Tailung he fought by being himself, using fireworks, chopsticks, his belly, etc. And when he said i am not a big fat panda, i am THE big fat panda, it's like him owning everything he was insecure about himself.
Let’s gooo!!! Ok not gonna lie guys the scene where he and Shi Fu are fighting over the dumpling and then bow to each other outta respect at the end is still one of my favorite scenes out of this entire series, maybe even one of my favorite movie scenes in general!
Oogway realised Po is hungry when he's upset. That moment is cool but touching, because it means he's not anxious anymore, hes happy and proud about his progress.
This is honestly one of the greatest trilogies in cinematic history personally I think they all three share a narrative and tell the story about the past present the future and are amazing sequels that continue the story and push the quality of the movies

I remember seeing Kung Fu panda when I was like 12 or 13. I'm 26 now and still love this movie to death. Regardless of how old you are. The messages in these movies are eternal.
Wait, seriously? I never recognized his voice, mostly because I'm used to the soft-mannered John Coffey more than any other role Michael played. It's almost hard for me to hear him sound so authoritative and intimidating.
I remember when they announced that he passed away and I was sad. He was one of those actors that brought a presence in every movie he was no matter the quality, like Daredevil
Can't believe it took me over a decade to realize Po and Sifu's story arcs were juxtaposed. One who doesn't want to disappoint his father and the other who has already disappointed his son.
The freeze framing of punches is definitely a more modern fighting movie thing. Tradilional Kung Fu movies tend to be very rapid-fire with the punches and kicks and weapon strikes. I'd say The Matrix is to blame, and maybe 300.
i almost feel bad for people that didn't grow up watching this. this was a classic and I feel people who didn't watch it back then obviously don't have that nostalgic feeling attached to it. So its not as great and meaningful for them.
The second film is my favorite of the trilogy but they’re all worth watching. They’re incredibly, loving well made and each has a different lesson applied to it that all feel organic, with resolutions that are hard earned.
Yeah, that also why it is one of my favorite movies together with puss and boots.Because they both have interasting villains, interasting plots and interasting stories
This is genuinely still one of my fave films about self-acceptance. Po's depression over who he is at the start of the movie, and then slowly learning to value himself and others accepting him on his own terms, rather than him having to become something else, is such a good story to have. Still makes me cry constantly.

_Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon_ (2000) may be the best film with which to introduce yourself to kung fu movies. Directed by Ang Lee, it won multiple awards from many organizations, notably four Oscars-Foreign Language, Art Direction, Cinematography, and Original Score-and four BAFTAs-Foreign Language, Costume Design, Music, and Best Director. It's a remarkably beautiful film filled with suspenseful action.
26:14 I volunteered for a music festival for 20 years, working a ton of hours in the hot sun leading teams to build tents, fences and stages. No matter how acclimated and fit I get from the work, the hills still kill me.
I love how while this movie does punch in some unexpected comedy, it never does the thing where it undercuts emotional moments with a joke that destroys the impact of the moment.
I would recommend some of the early 2D animated Dreamworks films like "The Road To Eldorado" and "The Prince of Egypt" If you haven't seen those. Both are very good and criminally underrated in my opinion.

Seconding the "all over the place" vibe. It's nice to stretch one's appreciation of different genres in almost any art form. You learn things you never expect to know and discover things you never would otherwise. 😊
Natalie, I love your reactions and prescience! You’d mentioned never having seen a Kung Fu movie. There are many more traditional classics with Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and many more, but some of the more artistic and gorgeously wire-choreographed ones that I remember are Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero (2002). You’ve mentioned accompanying music in your reviews, and these two films have striking scores.
Trust me, it's the best way to grow your channel. 1. Most movie lovers like more than one movie genre 2. You're more likely to reach a wider audience if you react to a diverse range of movie genres
Definitely watch the trilogy. They're just as good. Also, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Kung Fu Hustle are great Kung Fu movies I recommend. In that order.
Please, PLEASE, be responsible. If you're going to recommend Kung Fu Hustle, make sure that they know to watch the Cantonese or Mandarin version, not the English dubbed one. So many jokes and inflections are cut out that the movie is almost non-sensical at certain points.
This movie is a perfect example of "DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER". Also please react to Zack Snyder's DCEU Trilogy, He is also the director of 300.
What's even funnier is that most of the names are just the thing itself. Master Shifu is just "Master Master", and Chor Gom Prison is just "Prison Prison". I find it really absurd and funny. Oogway is turtle, of course.

Deadpool: *Positivity is confusing*
You're everywhere my dude 😭 I feel like you're my friend now
There are too accidents. Our dog had one on the carpet the other day.
You are literally the first person I've ever seen who immediately knows what animal Shifu is
I'm 23 and I just know what animal he was supposed to be
@@diegodeluquev1433 ok
I still don't know what he is ... 😂
(Im at the intro)
Took me almost an entire decade to figure out what animal he is and freakin Natalie figures it out in 0.1 second lmao
She has seen the movie before.. The way she was predicting I'm pretty sure it's not her first time watching it.
I got to speak to James Hong at a convention once. He said he LOVED getting to play such a loving father figure. He doesn’t often get those kinds of roles so he really enjoyed it.
I think it also made him happy to see someone ask about Kung-Fu Panda when he was there signing photos from his role in Big Trouble.
Yes. They’re good movies. Story evolves. They’re not just more of the same.

@@BlamoStramo Like Kung Fu Panda 2. It's still funny but the stakes are higher and more emotional/personal for Po

@@terrellthaddies7867 one funny bit. The black and white warrior that is gonna destroy the baddy can be himself not Po.
@@fjparasite1172 But here's the thing, that peacock wasn't Black and white. His main base color is whiteish grey looking with red, white, and black coloring on his feathers
That whole metaphor was strictly talking about Po hence why the villain was so scared of that fortune. He was so scared of that particular fortune coming true that he did what he did in the movie
The second movie is easily one of my favourite animated films of all time.
The second one is more dramatic and it has the most emotional moments
Right up there with Shrek 2
Kung fu panda 2 is amazing!
Genuinely one of my favorite movies ever
@@Real_Genji shrek 2 is untouchable!
I read time ago, about the reaction of the chracters to the dragon Scroll , Po Said "it's empty" becuase he didn't realize about himself... Tai Long said "it's nothing" becuase he always felt like nothing! I liked a lot this interpretation
Exactly, it was the mirror (:
It's also been used in "The Silent Flute".
The scroll was mirrored on the inside.
Natalie: I'm not expecting this series to be as heartfelt as how to train your dragon.
Actually........you'd be surprised......
She’ll probably change her tune after part 2

"Its ok you're a panda. You're whole thing is being cute and cuddly." As someone who struggled in the past with weight, that was a very delicate and sweet line. 🥰

You ABSOLUTELY should watch the others. The movies are fantastic.
It's a gift. It is your parting gift. In that it will part you. Part of you here, part of you there, and part of you WAAAAAYYY over there straight in the wall.
2nd sequel was my favourite! It goes against all "originals are better than the sequels" examples
@@CherryMxTx this statement has been wrong for a long time now, sometimes originals are better but a lot of the times as well the sequels are better.
You should watch all part of kung fu panda then you will know the origin of panda
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@CherryMxTx My favorite part too. Live how they touch on Tigresses life and they open up her character more.
Fun fact: "Oogway" is actually the English adaptation word to the Chinese word 乌龟 (Wu Gui) which means "Turtle" or "Tortoise". And Master Shifu is English for 师父 (Shi fu) which also means "Master" or "Teacher"
You can see that the filmmakers treat all the culture with respect. My favorite detail (that someone else pointed) was in the second movie when the explosion occurs at the bay and they are doing the pose that represents the move they are named after
Master Master. Or if you’d like to be cultured: Shi Fu Shifu
Tiger, Mantis, Snake, Crane
@@boredpotato6366 Actually, it's Tigress, Mantis, Viper, Monkey, and Crane.
@@boredpotato6366 how can you forget Jackie Chan?
When Po says "I'm not hungry", that's the best mic drop in the history of Dreamworks
Oogway realised Po is hungry when he's upset. That moment is cool but touching, because it means he's not anxious anymore, hes happy and proud about his progress.
And the fight is never mean spirited in any way. It is a training exercise. and doesn't de-evolve.
* Tai Lung sees a reflection of himself*:
“It’s nothing!”
It's tragic that he can't see his own worth beyond the fight for power and respect

Meanwhile Po never felt special, but when he saw his own reflection, he smiled 🥲
This is honestly one of the greatest trilogies in cinematic history personally I think they all three share a narrative and tell the story about the past present the future and are amazing sequels that continue the story and push the quality of the movies
The scroll isn't just nothing, it's a reflection, meaning the secret is 'To be great you don't need anything special just be yourself'
Also, did anyone else chuckle we she said *cater to the student* 😅
To quote Po, "There is no secret ingredient... its just you."
that Tai Lung said "It's nothing!" says a lot about how he sees himself. No accidents
Ah yep, we all got that dude.
I'm glad you jump around, focusing on quality rather than genre!
Tai Lung has one of the best Prison Breaks ever.
"This time we are diving into a trilogy, which quite honestly, never thought I'd watch". The Internet would never let you not watch such a delightful trilogy of films... :)

I love that he's named Master Oogway since it literally translates to "tortoise" in chinese. Same for Shifu = teacher 🙏
Good god, I can't believe I never realise Oogway was just tortoise in chinese.... and I'm chinese. Spelling really threw me off compared to shifu.
@@Totorosh27 lol!! Well I suppose it should've been Woogway but Oogway sounds cooler in English.

I remember seeing Kung Fu panda when I was like 12 or 13. I'm 26 now and still love this movie to death. Regardless of how old you are. The messages in these movies are eternal.
Michael Clarke Duncan voices the rhino guard in this movie may he rest in peace
Wait, seriously? I never recognized his voice, mostly because I'm used to the soft-mannered John Coffey more than any other role Michael played. It's almost hard for me to hear him sound so authoritative and intimidating.
Seriously??? He's gone??? I could I not know this. Oh, now I'm sad 😭
I remember when they announced that he passed away and I was sad. He was one of those actors that brought a presence in every movie he was no matter the quality, like Daredevil

Well, i just learnt that now hahaha, thank you hahaha
Man, wait till Kung Fu Panda 2, much much tears
The freeze framing of punches is definitely a more modern fighting movie thing. Tradilional Kung Fu movies tend to be very rapid-fire with the punches and kicks and weapon strikes.
I'd say The Matrix is to blame, and maybe 300.
This movie can definitely do fast action really well. The freeze framing feels "earned".
I disagree, this movie is more than goofy. It has a lot of heart.
i almost feel bad for people that didn't grow up watching this. this was a classic and I feel people who didn't watch it back then obviously don't have that nostalgic feeling attached to it. So its not as great and meaningful for them.
"After all that training he's still out of breath"
Well, to be fair. It's a *lot* of stairs.
The second film is my favorite of the trilogy but they’re all worth watching. They’re incredibly, loving well made and each has a different lesson applied to it that all feel organic, with resolutions that are hard earned.
"I'm not A big fat panda, I'm THE big fat panda."
Kung fu panda 2 hit so deep. One of my top 5 animated movie.
Yeah, that also why it is one of my favorite movies together with puss and boots.Because they both have interasting villains, interasting plots and interasting stories
Yeah, it definitely has the darkest plot of the three movies, but still keeping some of that charming KFP goof.
Me to love it
This is genuinely still one of my fave films about self-acceptance. Po's depression over who he is at the start of the movie, and then slowly learning to value himself and others accepting him on his own terms, rather than him having to become something else, is such a good story to have. Still makes me cry constantly.
The scene where we heard TL's side of the story was great. The weight of expectations really bogs people down
"not so heartwarming as past dreamworks movies"... oh just wait till you see the second one 🤭
Inner peace. Chi

@@eleven-hopper I watched it with girl friend of mine, whose father died 2-3 days before, so I took her to the movies to see this one, you know, a lighthearted animated comedy. well. in retrospect, should have chosen something lighter, like Schindlers list, The green mile or similar. but nothing indicated that KFP2 will be that heavy.
Oogway: There is just news, there is no good or bad
Shifu: DreamWorks won't make a MegaMind 2

_Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon_ (2000) may be the best film with which to introduce yourself to kung fu movies. Directed by Ang Lee, it won multiple awards from many organizations, notably four Oscars-Foreign Language, Art Direction, Cinematography, and Original Score-and four BAFTAs-Foreign Language, Costume Design, Music, and Best Director. It's a remarkably beautiful film filled with suspenseful action.

I love the first movie.. but the second movie... a masterpiece. One of my all time favorite hero/villain parallel stories.
I would recommend some of the early 2D animated Dreamworks films like "The Road To Eldorado" and "The Prince of Egypt" If you haven't seen those. Both are very good and criminally underrated in my opinion.
I’ll admit the second one has some tear jerker moments.
and another bad ass villain. KFP 1 and 2 might have the best back to back set of villains in any movie I've ever seen.
@@KS-xk2so yes the villain was awsome, and in my opinion was more personal for Poe.
You have, I think, four qualities that make your reactions really helpful to me in re-interpreting things I have seen: your intense intelligence, your deep perceptiveness, your wild emotions and openness, and your industry knowledge. And you have a really good editor.
Seconding the "all over the place" vibe. It's nice to stretch one's appreciation of different genres in almost any art form. You learn things you never expect to know and discover things you never would otherwise. 😊
The Kung fu panda trilogy is my favorite animated movies and I love that you're reacting to it
Natalie, I love your reactions and prescience!
1. Most movie lovers like more than one movie genre
