The same goes for us Mavericks fans and Duncan. Two of the greatest to do it and we saw them in the same division for almost two decades straight playing one another. We were truly spoiled and it took this long to realize it
to be TOTALLY honest i still DON'T like a.c green david robinson and mark cuban AT ALL i still SOMEWHAT like the mavs spurs university of houston and rockets and i still LOVE a player who in my OPINION was a star being moses malone ALMOST as much as a player who in my OPINION was a legend being hakeem olajuwon
Me too, as a diehard Spurs fan. I remember the tribute the Spurs gave Dirk in his final season with the Mavs and how moved Dirk was. Great rivalry always with the Spurs. So glad the Mavs beat the Heat!!
I absolutely love the contrast of “Dwayne Wade was the imminent future, Shaq was the near past, this was Dirk’s time to be the present” and “A Blastoise of a Dirk” Nothing but poetry. Thank you for always delivering such high quality videos, filled with so much emotion and information! My UA-cam goat, the greatest NBA UA-camr there is 🙌🏽
no disrespect but in my OPINION those elite players are ranked #1 legend hakeem olajuwon a DISTANT #2 star bill walton and a DISTANT #3 star dirk nowitzki
Walton in 77 was especially dangerous. That guy made the HOF with sub-par stats overall due to the fact of "when he was healthy, he was a beast" factor. The greatest compliment I ever heard given a basketball player was : "of all the players I've ever coached, or seen play...I'd take Bill Walton healthy above the rest" -- John Wooden
He is my favorite NBA player. I'm aware he's not the greatest, but his personality, humbleness, loyalty to his team through 21 years and his 2011. run make him the greatest in my eyes. He's my idol.
Imagine how much, pain, regret, and misery Dirk must have been feeling as he walked up to the podium to receive his 2007 MVP. A 2-0 Finals lead blown and a 67 win season gone to waste. Then, imagine how he must have felt walking up to the podium to receive the 2011 championship, after defeating the Lamarcus and Brandon Roy led Blazers, the Lakers, the OKC Thunder, and the Super-team Miami Heat! A career redemption doesn’t get much better than that. 🥶🏆
Maaan I love Dirk, he is the true example of earned not given. He had one of the best playoff run ever, the best example why we love this sport, a true magical story.
Dirk is the reason I got into and love basketball. I remember it was 2002 and I was in 4th grade. My friend had a poster of Dirk in his room and I remember thinking "he's kind of goofy looking for basketball player". Cut to a few months later and I ended up accidentally catching a Mavs game where Dirk just went off. Became a Mavs fan that day. It's nice to finally see Dirk getting his flowers.
Been a watching bball on a pretty constant basis for 22 years now and this vid is spot on. 2011 cemented Dirk more than any other single title for a player. Before 2011, he was the guy who won the MVP after losing to a 8 seed...and he legacy was in question And after 2011 Dallas didn't win a single playoff series with him again (though not his fault)
Dirk is my favorite player of all time. And you my favorite basketball youtuber clayton as soon I saw notification I skipped my dinner to watch it. This is just amazing.
I wish Steve Nash never left Dallas. Dirk and Nash were actual best friends and it's a shame we only got a couple seasons with them playing together before Nash was MVP Nash.
Your past 4 videos have been legitimately my favorite story’s in all of basketball. 04 pistons, Manu, Dirk. You love ball the same way I do and i appreciate you for it.
The thing about Dirk and those Mavs is that they were known for giving up leads and crumbling under pressure (even if that isn't entirely precise). In 2011 they were just indestructible. Always coming from behind, never giving up and with Dirk being Mr Clutch himself.
Amazing! I remember those playoffs and hearing you tell that story is just amazing. I'm a Celtics fan, but man, I loved watching Dirk play. And having him and the Mavs put down Lebron and the Heat was just an incredible feeling. Like you said, everyone was rooting for the Mavs on that one.
I was definitely a Dirk doubter especially after that loss to the 8 seeded Warriors. But after the 2011 chip, I became a Dirk fan for life! What a great story about overcoming failures and building a legacy with a franchise! I wish we had more stories like his. Despite the playoff losses year after year, I believe Dirk led the Mavs to 50+ wins for 11 straight seasons, which is impressive given the depth of the West during that time. That didn’t get talked about enough so thank you for highlighting his journey!!
I've watched Dirk Nowitzki since the beginning of the 1998-1999. He's the reason I watched every Dallas Mavericks game until the 2011 NBA Finals game 6 was over. I have Dallas Mavericks jerseys and t-shirts of Dirk Nowitzki with the basketball shorts in my closet.
Same. I was Dirk and Mavs obsessed. I am just so happy for him that he won the championship. I tear up every time I watch a video like this.. what an amazing player and an amazing man.
Can’t forget when Caron Butler got hurt for the Mavs they went under the radar even more because of how significant people thought that would be on their playoff chances! Great video!
THANK YOU, CLAYTON 🥹 Dirk is my favorite player of all-time, and I’m so happy to see you finally cover him. I remember this all of this all too well, and seeing it recapped with your editing, humor, and usual fantastic writing brought a tear to my eye at the end. Love your work, keep it up.
the first clayton video i saw was the manu one soon after it was posted, i watched a lot of his videos and have been eagerly waiting for a new video to drop. absolute banger video, i love dirk. i wish i really could’ve seen him for the majority of his career but i only really started paying attention to basketball around 2010, i at least got to watch him dismantle the heat and it was one of the greatest performances i’ve ever seen
I live in Dallas and have always been indifferent towards the Mavs. But watching Dirk during that championship run impressed me. Must be one of the most clutch performances in NBA history.
This was my first time watching a video from your channel, Dirk is my favorite NBA player of all time, THIS VIDEO ROCKSSSSSSSS INSTANT SUB!! KEEP UP THE AWESOME VIDEOS!!
I continue to love your vids Clayton but I miss the stats you used to put up on screen like with the Making the Case series! They were such a staple of your videos haha, could you bring them back please!!
Clayton is the best basketball UA-camr. Wish more sports media could positively examine players careers. I’m gonna make suggestions of players to see, but I’m here for any video from this channel. Dwayne Wade Jason Kidd John Stockton George gervin Elgin Baylor Hakeem
Blastoise Dirk absolutely ascended on the 2011 playoffs man. Being a die hard Lakers fan at the time, it was tough seeing the three peat dream die. Looking back at it, couldn’t be happier for Dirk and that Mavs squad pulling off such a Cinderella run
Nowitzki made 24 consecutive free throws without missing in game 1 against the Thunder setting a world record for a playoff game. He also made 74 consecutive free throws without missing during the playoffs which was crazy.
Great video as always. I do think that one thing that was worth mentioning about the We Believe Warriors was that Don Nelson was the coach and he was a former coach of Dirks. So that knowledge about Dirk was a key element in harassing Dirk into a bad series.
Clayton I got nothing but respect for your documentation of the sport I love so much. If u are questioning what should be your next video like many UA-camrs do after finishing one might I suggest a player who u showed briefly in your preview video for the legends of the game who weren't good enough for "Making the Case" and that player is Derrick "Pooh" Rose. Even if fans don't give him the respect he deserves everyone here in Chicago looks at him like a true hero. I would love to see u give him his flowers for his "what if" career. I know u said Walton is the biggest What-if and R.I.P to Bill but in all due respect I say it's D. Rose. Just a thought and thanks for the vids
Hey clayton! Just wanted to say I've been a big fan for a couple of years and love rewatching your videos every few times. And for a player I'd love to see a video on is Hakeem. A lot of people respect his legacy and have him easily top 15, but I really havent seen any videos that actually dive into his career or his two championships. Regardless of if you do, keep up the great work!
coming back from a 2-0 finals collapse and a 67 win choke is so hard psychologically. if that happened to some young stars of today, i doubt if they can mentally overcome that. that's why 2011 was so sweet and crazy.

Will forever use that "lied about" line in reference to MJ after the Yahoo article As a big Bron guy, 2011 was a wildly disappointing finals series but man Dirk was just on another level you HAVE to respect it. Honestly one of, if not the greatest, playoff runs of all time. Still remember playing those early 2010's 2K's against my friends and since I was so much better, I'd make it a challenge to beat them with only one person scoring, and Dirk made that so easy with his post fade. Honestly was kind of unfair to my friends, Dirk was just that guy. If they ever redo the logo, I'm still on board with making it Dirk's fade. It's just picture perfect
12:13 - "Its why LEBRON went to MIAMI, go back to CAVS and went to LAKERS" - This line should be included as well if you are talking about Kevin Durant and Other Guys Chasing NBA Rings
That championship also validated the career of one of the greatest point guards of all time....he was destined to be on that list after he reconsidered joining San Antonio in free agency after losing to them in the finals
07 broke Dirk man. It was the most brutal playoff loss ever. I'm so happy he won the title in 11. Love Dirk, he's the reason i picked up a basketball. We believed in him here in Dallas. I should've emphasized the *deutch* in "deutchman", but I was saving it for when I absolutely nailed "Holger Geschwindner"
hi clayton crowley
; ) nice one - by the way, nobody is laughing at the Knicks anymore - do you like the All-In Move ?
Its spelled „deutsch“ btw :)
@@gintuner4371 thank u. wanted to comment that too. Germans... 😀
As a native Spurs fan, we have immense respect for Dirk especially after his chip against Lebron. Man, basketball was so intense in the 2000s
The same goes for us Mavericks fans and Duncan. Two of the greatest to do it and we saw them in the same division for almost two decades straight playing one another. We were truly spoiled and it took this long to realize it

Has a Mavericks fan I love the fact that that is the one stain on LeBron's Legacy that keeps him out of the goat conversation
I'm a spurs fan who lives in Dallas, during those years I rooted for the Mavs and Dirk whenever it wasn't against the spurs
My UA-cam goat, the greatest NBA UA-camr there is 🙌🏽
Blastoise got me rolling
Best content on here
They might think it's glazing, but that's love though
just when the world needed him most, the legend returns
He never went away, he just uploads videos less often than a lot of people, but his videos are excellent at what they do.
In particular the writing.
If Clayton posts a video, I drop everything to watch it
Favts
Yep. Clayton and EthosLab are the only two UA-camrs I do that for
me when i’m holding a 100lb weight but the clayton noti goes off
That's sad. Hopefully you don't have a baby.

Walton in '77. Hakeem in '94. Dirk in '11. The most legendary championship runs by single superstar teams.
no disrespect but in my OPINION those elite players are ranked #1 legend hakeem olajuwon a DISTANT #2 star bill walton and a DISTANT #3 star dirk nowitzki
What’s your opinion of Duncan ‘03?
Rick Barry in 74-75. Even though it's been awhile.
Walton in 77 was especially dangerous. That guy made the HOF with sub-par stats overall due to the fact of "when he was healthy, he was a beast" factor. The greatest compliment I ever heard given a basketball player was :

He's my goat, im very biased being from Dallas. But man this guy was and still is special

Dirk is my favorite player of all time. And you my favorite basketball youtuber clayton as soon I saw notification I skipped my dinner to watch it. This is just amazing.

Dirk’s 2011 playoff run got me back into basketball after having been soured by a decade plus of Lakers/Spurs reruns in June.
What’d you think of the Pistons, Heat, and Celtics teams that won?
That’s a refreshing take lol
The goat dropped
That game 1 against the Thunder in 2011 was the game you gotta watch to see how insanely good this guy was.
The thing about Dirk and those Mavs is that they were known for giving up leads and crumbling under pressure (even if that isn't entirely precise).
In 2011 they were just indestructible. Always coming from behind, never giving up and with Dirk being Mr Clutch himself.
The quality of videos is getting better and better each time! I love how you’re implementing humor more and more
Loving the extra personality in this vid
Clayton's rambling, watching the games go bad for the Mavs is the standard Dallas sports fan experience
