I remember listening to this for the first time on a rainy, late-night drive. It ended just as I pulled into my driveway and I had to sit there in silence for a few minutes to process what I'd just heard. An absolute masterpiece IMHO.
Every album of theirs is so deep, emotional, and so real. Garrett lyrics is the BEST in the scene imo. You need check out their first three albums in order. The progression of their sound in the beginning to now is awesome to experience. Also if your wondering, listen to "The Night God Slept" Redux than the original, it has a better mix and has improved vocals from Garrett. Love this band to death
Id honestly suggest listening to the base TNGS album because for me, the vocals aren't as hard hitting on some of the songs, on the redux, as they are on the original album.
Silent Planet will forever be my favourite metalcore band! Every album is a masterpiece!! btw, Second Sun is one of my favourite metalcore songs ever aswell! edit: Terminal is about cancer and quite emotional, I'd recommend reading the lyrics. (lyrics are always recommended with SP tbf haha)
For Terminal, it's definitely the type of song you need to watch the music video for to fully experience it. Knowing the background makes it hit harder too. By itself, it doesn't hit quite as hard as the rest of the album. So glad you checked it out though!
I thought the same but, crazily, it hits harder without the music video. The lyrics are really relatable, and for that, it floors me with every listen.
Second Sun's chorus is one of my faves in metalcore. You definitely gotta check out The Way It Ends or The Place I Feel Safest by Currents if you haven't already!
Honestly, I love Silent Planet with every fiber of my being. Every member of the band is so genuinely nice at every show me and my wife have seen them at and Garrett is always so patient to make sure to give every person at their show some time to talk with him. Second Sun has to be a fan favorite, the chorus is fantastic and the meaning behind the song and when Garrett made the song really make it that much more impactful.
It is a great album for sure, one of my faves from them, and really love the production job on this album. Great mix by Jeff Dunne. I really hope you continue to deep dive into the rest of SP's discography (maybe you'll even get to the first ep and hear where they started and how far they,ve come since), not only to hear their sound evolution over time, and get more into their lyric lore (and hear their Depths album-closing trilogy tracks in full, tracks that other songs like Inhabit the Wound and Iridescent very much draw similarity from in terms of epic dramatic and often depressing/dark/melancholic closers (as well as a more underrated connected trilogy in the tracks First Mother, First Father, and Firstborn)), but also to hear more of Thomas (the bassist) singing (especially on When the End Began (esp. tracks like "In Absence is almost all Thomas if I remember right), I think that has the most singing from him as they increased it a bit after Everything Sound Was Sound, and I guess that album itself was also an increase after The Night God Slept; then Iridescent kind of decreased it a bit after When the End Began and introduced Garrett and Mitch singing for the first time. Mitch is the guitarist, he's the one you hear singing on soft parts, the "robotic" effect you mentioned, Garrett (who usually screams) sings the intro of Terminal, Mitch sings verse 1, and verse 2, as well as the bridge in Anhedonia and the chill 1st pre-chorus in Till We Have Faces) singing for the first time, which would continue and increase on Superbloom after Thomas had left. Thomas sings parts like the chorus of Trilogy, verse 2 in The Sound of Sleep, the high notes/singing parts in the choruses of Translate the Night, Second Sun, Sound of Sleep, Till We Have Faces, and I think him and Mitch double on the chorus of Terminal, though I'm not sure, I always hear more of Mitch on that chorus. I miss him too, I've always loved his singing as I always liked that higher style of singing, and since my own style of singing is very much inspired by singers like him as well in finding my own style and sound. Cheers, best wishes 🤘
You've gotta try When the End Began next. It was the last album Garrett did that had footnotes on every other verse citing sources as his inspiration. They used to be called "homeworkcore" as a joke because lyric readers would be learning stuff. Iridescent was a defining moment for the band because it was the bands first attempt at more personal lyrics pertaining Garretts personal experiences. Prior, he wrote songs often retelling the stories of friends, family, and even complete strangers. His works have been a huge inspiration to myself and friends.
To me this is probably the best metalcore album I've heard in recent years, it has impactful lyrics, amazing riffs, insane drumming, both clean and harsh vocals are just godly, sometimes this band gives me vibes of what SOAD would be like if they wrote modern metalcore, the contrast between Thomas and Mitchell's cleans with Garrett screams and the guitar work take me to heaven.
the bass in Panopticon is so chonky, i tend to fixate on it when i'm listening to that song. adore it! this album is easily their best to me, which isn't to say their other albums are BAD. i genuinely love all of their albums!! just Iridescent is next level.
I've really come around to this album, was rather disappointed in it on release but I think I understand its place now. When the End Began is still my favorite, that album is massive and never fails to hit me emotionally. Not as diverse sonically but every there is so much variety in subject matter all revolving around this concept of apocalypses. One of the best albums ever written if you ask me.
Discovered their album Superbloom a couple of weeks ago! Have already booked tickets to go see them in January with Like Moths to Flames! Both brilliant bands.
I personally think that Everything Was Sound is even better and their first album is my favorite though I have to add that I discovered them even before they were signed, so I might be biased, lol. Everything Was Sound is an incredible concept album and has the incredible REDIVIDER, which is a word for word palindrome. Blew my mind when I realized that.
Amazing album, but I actually love their album before this “When the End Began” even more. Can’t wait for you to eventually check it out. Also, think you’ll ever check out any of ERRA’s catalogue prior to Cure?
Glad you checked this out! Iridescent was definitely better than Superbloom, that said I think my favorite 2 songs from SP were on Superbloom. If it makes you feel any better about the clean vocalist he had a kid and left on really good terms and still performs with them sometimes and was credited as a producer on Superbloom so I wouldn’t be surprised if he is back in some capacity in the future, sounds like they’re all still really tight.
Every Silent Planet Album is incredible! My favorite is still Everything Was Sound. You may not like their older stuff quite as much because they lean more into the spoken word poetry stuff but I really like it considering the incredible lyrical content.
@SteveOGRock I was introduced to them with Iridescent, which I thought was incredible. I went back to check out their older stuff, and it didn't immediately click with me. I don't know what exactly changed, but after a few more listens, I started to love it even more than their newer stuff.
Iridescent is my favorite SP album. The older stuff is absolutely brilliant lyrically, but it's harder for me to get into musically because of the lack of melodies and memorable choruses. Nick is a good singer and a gem of a human, but I do miss Thomas.
Incredible you take so much away from this album with even touching on the lyrical content. As brilliant as the band is, their lyrics are what really separate Slant Plant from other bands in this genre.
Ridiculously good album🔥🔥
I remember listening to this for the first time on a rainy, late-night drive. It ended just as I pulled into my driveway and I had to sit there in silence for a few minutes to process what I'd just heard. An absolute masterpiece IMHO.
That's the PERFECT way to listen to this album. Nothing like a rainy ambience paired with this deep ambience
Every album of theirs is so deep, emotional, and so real. Garrett lyrics is the BEST in the scene imo. You need check out their first three albums in order. I actually just listened to Everything Was Sound album today. That was… a lot to take in 👀
Tbh I prefer the original TNGS, just feels right
@@SteveOGRock All their albums are incredibly deep. I think Garret is one of the best lyricists in any genre.
Id honestly suggest listening to the base TNGS album because for me, the vocals aren't as hard hitting on some of the songs, on the redux, as they are on the original album.
Keep going back Stevie! Every album is a masterpiece of it's time. First is still one of my favorites.
"PANOPTICAAAAAAAHHHNNN!
That opening scream immediately got my attention. That, plus the bendy little scifi lick on "AntiMatter"... I'm a fan.
It's called thall be careful u might get addicted
Fun fact, no guitar in this song. That’s a bass plugged right into the guitar amp chain.
Iridescent is one of my top 3 albums ever, and my first introduction to Silent Planet, I absolute love everything about it

I totally agree. Terminal is their best song imo. Masterpiece
I thought the same but, crazily, it hits harder without the music video.
The lyrics are really relatable, and for that, it floors me with every listen.
I love these full albums videos. don't stop. :)
Second Sun's chorus is one of my faves in metalcore. You definitely gotta check out The Way It Ends or The Place I Feel Safest by Currents if you haven't already!

That’s great to hear!

OMGGGGG I'M SO HAPPY YOU'RE FINALLY CHECKING IT OUT
You've gotta try When the End Began next. It was the last album Garrett did that had footnotes on every other verse citing sources as his inspiration. They used to be called "homeworkcore" as a joke because lyric readers would be learning stuff.

The Sound of Sleep is ridiculously underrated. It’s such a fun song and goes unnecessarily hard
the bass in Panopticon is so chonky, i tend to fixate on it when i'm listening to that song. adore it! this album is easily their best to me, which isn't to say their other albums are BAD. i genuinely love all of their albums!! just Iridescent is next level.
Alive, as a Housefire is definitely my favorite on this album, that chorus just scratches this crazy itch in my brain!
The more I listen to this album, the more I think it could be my favourite album ever
"Till We Have Faces" and "Alive, as a Housefire" are my favorite songs from this album. Nice to see you checking them out.
One of my favourite albums of all time 😍
Silent planet doesn't miss. One of my all time favorite bands since their first album dropped
Such a masterpiece of an album!
Great album. Second Sun probably my favourite song from this band, close with Anti-Matter
Discovered their album Superbloom a couple of weeks ago! Have already booked tickets to go see them in January with Like Moths to Flames! Both brilliant bands.
I personally think that Everything Was Sound is even better and their first album is my favorite though I have to add that I discovered them even before they were signed, so I might be biased, lol.

i love sp its so hard to say what their best album is, they're all so good and all so different, theme/vibe wise.
The Sound of Sleep is still my favorite song to this day, I have to limit my listening of it so I don’t get sick of it 😭
favorite album ever I just love everything about it
If you love their high notes, you should definitely check out the album before this. It's an amazing album with more of such singing too!
Terminal is my favorite song
Glad you checked this out! Iridescent was definitely better than Superbloom, that said I think my favorite 2 songs from SP were on Superbloom.
If it makes you feel any better about the clean vocalist he had a kid and left on really good terms and still performs with them sometimes and was credited as a producer on Superbloom so I wouldn’t be surprised if he is back in some capacity in the future, sounds like they’re all still really tight.
36:33 kinda sounds like Chester.
I’m so “bass-ic” what a god dad joke. Stealing that one
Silent Planet is my favorite band and I've listened to this album sooo many times and I never noticed 112 is 1:12 long 😑
Every Silent Planet Album is incredible! My favorite is still Everything Was Sound. You may not like their older stuff quite as much because they lean more into the spoken word poetry stuff but I really like it considering the incredible lyrical content.
You are correct ✅😅 Recently heard EWS album for the first time.
@SteveOGRock I was introduced to them with Iridescent, which I thought was incredible. I went back to check out their older stuff, and it didn't immediately click with me. I don't know what exactly changed, but after a few more listens, I started to love it even more than their newer stuff.
I see WSS - You Are We in your recent library, did you recently check that out or is that a return album for you? I always come back to that album :)
This album is fabulous.
Iridescent is my favorite SP album. The older stuff is absolutely brilliant lyrically, but it's harder for me to get into musically because of the lack of melodies and memorable choruses. Nick is a good singer and a gem of a human, but I do miss Thomas.
I’ve since heard “Everything Was Sound” and I think I agree with you 👀
I love these album reviews. Can't really judge an artist by a song. Haha
Panopticon so far is my fave. Lovely bass. 🖤
Drums have been consistently good for the whole album so far.
Easily better than Superbloom, yesh!
Incredible you take so much away from this album with even touching on the lyrical content. As brilliant as the band is, their lyrics are what really separate Slant Plant from other bands in this genre.
I didn`t enjoyed none of albums of Silent Planet😑. Maybe someday
