As a writer who’s been setting aside my own goals for what I believed I “should” be doing, I feel I’ve finally unlocked my soul working on an authentic project that has sat in my mind for way too long. Awesome work Dan. Got the book on Audible. I had beautiful hair (so my mother said). 16 yrs ago my dad got glioblastoma and lost his stately silver hair from chemo. At that point I shaved my already thinning locks and embraced liberation from hair. It was a vanity that slowed me down. As men, you know we are defined by many things. Hair is not one that is critical. Wisdom flows from the heart as does the value we bring to the world. Rock on and embrace the baldness. Turn entropy into renaissance. 💪🏽💪🏽

Identify and solve the distractions (boredom, anxiety) that prevent focus and productivity. Live at the "flow state" where your skills match the challenge.
Develop a clear vision and identity for your ideal future. Pursue goals that are positive and shape your identity over time.
Create a tangible project to work on in the first 1-2 hours each day. The project should help build your future vision.
Break your project down into manageable milestones or goals that can be achieved in 1-4 hour work sessions.
Your project does not need to be perfect - focus on getting a minimum viable product or vision. Build to identify improvements.
Create an outline to plan your project. Add to the outline as you build.
Use your project to solve problems and continually learn through struggle, not just memorization. Teach others as you build.
Dedicate a clear space and time each day to anchor your focus on productive work, away from negative thoughts.

Implementing the 2-4 hours a day has been the hardest with two creative projects that I love spending time on with Embassy Life in DC and my UA-cam channel, but at the end of the day, anything past that and I do notice a massive drop in quality and productivity.
I can speak from personal experience with Embassy Life in DC, it took me a year of focused work to build up a reputation here in the DC area, and now I am in a completely different place with brands reaching out to me and vice versa.
    Am I rich? No
    Am I a millionaire? No
Am I free from my 9-5? No
The point is this: it take time to build your "vision" of the future and for a naturally impatient person like me, it is utter hell. But there is no other choice. Cheers, Dan!

I love how you have taken a courageous step in dis-identifying with your hair. I have had pixie cuts, waist- long hair and a lot in between and have noticed it is surprising how much we can identify with external things. The wonderful thing about disidentifying is you can release yourself from conforming to/supporting ideas of yourself that can be limiting and misleading. Now don't fall into the same trap on the opposite end of the spectrum 🎉

    Thanks for the vids Dan.
One of my biggest concerns listening to these vids is that, I believe, not many people actually KNOW, what they want to do.
It is the issue with all the motivational teachings.. “Follow your heart… Start a project… etc” but what if you have no idea what truly makes your heart sing, in your 20s… 30s… 50s, people are still looking for the purpose ‘from within’.
I don’t think this is a problem that can be intellectually solved either.
Please, Connect with those millions that are lost not because they are not organized or lack problem solving skill or missing the will to change, but those, who are simply stuck figuring out what is their passion!
    Respect.. 🤞🏻

I also shaved my hair 3 years ago, that moment felt like a relief literally shaving away my insecurity.
Now a few years later I have accepted my hair and found a hairstyle like Mike Thurston what really fits me well.

Attractive because you really give goal and sense to the ego, limited because it seems to end there. I'm really glad you mentioned that some creators *like* to work long hours because we see it as play. It's definitely not the only way, as you've shared (as have many others), but with the pushback against hustle culture, a new one has surfaced -- one where people want to find the one hack that'll change everything for them and learn all the "secrets" or shortcuts (there aren't any; save your money) to avoid putting in the work.
Being on either side of the extreme isn't healthy. (Even people like me who genuinely LOVE writing and creating need breaks for our well-being.)
It's something I don't hear a lot of people talk about, and I've found a lot of shame messaging around those of us who see our brand as playful work.

    Dan, hi!
This might be my first-ever comment on UA-cam. I want to thank you for all the wisdom you share with us. I've always wondered why so many influencers talk about working hard for 80 hours with no rest, promoting a way of life that leads to anxiety, burnout, and depression. And then, when should we actually live?
Thank you for highlighting such an important issue. Many people believe that more hard work and more time equals more progress, and they end up destroying their lives, relationships, and health.
Your videos have helped me a lot to pull myself out of lostness and inaction and to form a perfect vision of my dream life. What's more important is that they've inspired me to take action. Each of your videos is like a step-by-step tutorial. I'm even taking notes from each video in my diary and revisiting them to clarify some details. Thank you for your tremendous efforts and time, you're doing an amazing job!

First of all, awesome for your first comment! The hustle culture is something that has been glorified as with entrepreneurship in general over the past couple of years. These influencers make a buck off of stating that you need to work yourself to the grave, but then sell a course to teach you to work faster.
In any case, you're not a robot mate, you're a human being with dreams you want to achieve. It'll take years before you make it, but with consistent effort, you will. Cheers!

Nah see at first I thought you used a funny edit in order to catch attention with the thumbnail, but when I later found out that you did it in order to launch yourself into the unknown “LIKE YOU’VE BEEN PREACHING” it made me respect you a million times more.
You’re dope bro! We appreciate you man. Keep going. ✊🏽❤️

I love your hair now, it´s awesome to be this detached, I feel like having it cut myself now. I have done it once when I was 15 or so. To me this says - a new period begins, there is no turning point now and I ´m ready. And I looove your content, every single word so empowering. I even started making notes. Thank you and hats off.

Your videos have honestly helped me more than anyone else on this site. As a writer, I put my own goals on the back burner for what I thought I 'should' be doing. But now, I finally feel like I’ve unlocked a part of myself by working on a real project that’s been on my mind for so long. When you said that no one’s going to care about your life as much as you do, it hit me hard. It just made everything click. I hope anyone reading this is having an awesome day or night

Haha when I saw the bald head and my first thought was “that’s gotta be photoshop” then I popped in the video briefly and was like “no freaking way! This guy shaved his head!” No idea you were insecure about your hair, I think it’s one of those things that nobody realizes or notices unless you say something. Keep it, grow it. Do what you feel best with. This video was really great, lately your videos have been right on point with where I am at with my journey. Currently studying for the PMP then moving to either the 2 hour writer and/or digital economics. Not sure I’m ready for Kortex … yet but I’ll get there. Thanks Dan!

"If the outcome of your desire is good, then desire isn't bad" is a somewhat valid point.
The reason that desire that is usually labeled as bad is that desire actually keeps you in a loop-frame type of life.
For example: You desire the new Apple Vision Pro (or rather the status it provides), therefore you need money, therefore you keep doing your 9-5. Once you reach that desire, another one has already entered the mind and that's how desire (which is based on past experiences - therefore time[where the loop comes from]) keeps us going in a circle, not really facing the present moment.

Hi, Dan. I've been binge watching/listening your "videos" on Spotify and although I know how you look like from the old videos, it helps me to focus on learning through listening (while I walk my dog). Some people say that you become more accessible or agreeable when people see your hands when you're talking, but I don't need to see your face/hands to agree in all of the points you're teaching.
"You are inside of me" LOL. When I read your newsletter, your voice resounds in my head (as you read it). Keep them coming!

I've had short hair, long hair, very little hair (cancer) it's not the hair that makes the man or woman- it is the love and acceptance of self that does 💜💜
