Oh hey, I just realized! Not only is the time spent in the rough waters of their marriage not wasted after they got through it, but even the experience they got working their jobs weren't to waste, either. The corgi worked his way to management positions as a barista, meaning he has a good grasp of customer service and how to handle people, especially in a bakery-like setting. The calico worked as an assistant in an ad agency, and was presumably good at it and got promoted, so she knows how to advertise and spread branding really well. Both skills are needed to run a successful store that'll stay open for a while, and they have over six years of experience as opposed to _probably_ winging it with the bakery at the beginning, and _possibly_ failing anyway. The rough patch not only was needed for them to realize what they mean to each other and their dreams together, but also how to keep those dreams steady and afloat. Feel like many people have realized this sooner, especially if it was intentional, but I didn't see much in the comments, so

I think the video is about how people who use to have their own dreams get distracted by society's expectations -- superficial things, a bigger house, a stable desk job etc P.s. That crying scene really got to me, the realization that 6 years are wasted just like that, blindly following what society expects us to do, becoming the same as everyone else. I did have a part of my life where I was dwelling in that phase
Lemon Wedge sometimes people want a mediocre life. It sounds weird- but I’m sure many people dream about having a big family and living peacefully. Others, like the main characters, have big dreams. I think anything can be accomplished- as long as you work. And sometimes, you have to balance your dreams with reality too.
The heart breaking part is that the cupcake never broke! Just like their plan! They planned to build a bakery! But wanting more, their plan was forgotten, but not broken! Just like the cupcake 😢😢😢
Why is THAT heartbreaking; THE Cupcake symbolizes their Dream, and their Love for Baking & Each other; If the Cupcake broke; this would have an even SADDER Ending. . .
This animation is just so…..great. How it was the cat who was afraid to lose the plan if they don’t follow it right now, how it was her who did it all eventually. And how it was the dog who helped her remember. They swapped places.
Me watching this as an adult: I never want to not be able to see if my relationship starts to fail and be able to work through things with him if we do end up in a rough patch.
Me watching this as a teenager with ADD: "Lord that house would take at least 10 years to make considering just how expensive adding on to a house can be. Especially buying all new furniture. Although if they didn't hire anyone then it would be a lot cheaper. Also, why does the outside seem so much smaller than the inside of the house?"
Ok I love how flawed Both of these characters are rather than one being the awful person and one being the one who gives up everything. One getting completely obsessed with work and not respecting the other decisions and eventually sort of manipulating the situation and the other being unable to communicate there thoughts or feeling in an adequate manner while debatably not being able to move on
Congrats, you made classes of Middle School kids tear up watching this, and that’s exactly the reaction I wanted them to have. Many don’t understand why they have to bother with art and this showed them how powerful art can be when done right and when combined with other art forms like Music and Writing.
This says to me: "Marriage is hard, it can be frustrating and sometimes the couple don't communicate well when they try for the other person. But, never lose sight of what is important you both. Your partner. Jobs? There's a dime a dozen of. Money? It only creates rift in humanity. If you keep on persevering and stay true to each other, then there is no hurdle that can stop you."
or simply have a lot of money from the start and no need to work as hard from the very beginning. If you can't do it, do it for your children. Asian motto. Works best.
I loved the part where they’re surrounded by this everlasting gloom inside that forest of concrete and when she breaks the wall, a warm light enters. It’s like, they found their lost passion again. And their love blossomed once more.❤ brilliant details.
@eric gonzalo no, I'm currently trying to decide what I want to do as a life career: something that I really, truly want to do but may not have a very good paycheck, or something that pays really well but isnt exactly what I'd be the most happy with.
@@Melodies2319 Weird, I'm actually going through the same dilemma. I really want to help people, but humanitarian jobs usually don't pay well. If I pursue a degree in biology, I don't think I'm going to be as happy. I have no idea what I even want to do to begin with and I'm scared of making the wrong choices.
Perfect couples are not always 'same species' but persons who know their strengths and weaknesses and complement each other; are always willing to say "I'm sorry" , repair cracks and breaks....and of course 'have a plan and stick to it'.
@@dianachung8173 Well, I could kind of understand some mistaking the dog husband for a fox due to his muzzle and coloration, but.... the cat wife is so *obviously* a cat.... Tiny, gracefully small muzzle, little triangular nose. Foxes don’t look like that. Also, it’s right in the description. Why do people *constantly* mistake fictional cats with foxes? I will never understand that.... 🤷🏻♀
This story evokes so many emotions, how much time can pass, regret and sadness from not following your dreams, this was a well written, and animated story!
It's definitely more than the mood lighting. You did mention the colors, but the whole aesthetic itself was so well thought out. The first house was home-y, it was small and sufficient. It had life, and a sense of uncleanliness to it, like there was actual purpose to it. The second house still had color and still sufficed in its own regard, but the color choice - the green-blue - had a sense of coldness to it; like the life was leaving the house itself. The third, well, very clearly speaks for itself. It's neutral, colorless, lifeless. Where cleanliness overtook everything else. Empty space was everywhere, meaning there was nothing notable. Nothing to catch attention. No stories.
This is so sweet🥺 I noticed on how the outfits changed, from cyan and a more comfortable outfit, then black symbolizing them being busy, and then both colors to symbolize them having a resolution. Chef’s kiss :)
in all seriousness, the moral of the story is to keep doing what you love. There will be obstacles but remember if you overcome them and it's worth it in the end.
I can imagine being the neighbors. "Hey, Susan, I think Kat had another plan" "Why's that, Dear?" "She's tearing a hole in the wall right now. Oh, now they're hugging" "Harold, stop stalking the neighbors" Okay stop liking this. For real. Go outside and ride a bike or something. Thanks Dillon Suduth for the name update.
At first I thought it was so cute that she had those cupcakes cause it made the gesture sweeter if she had made them herself, and then I saw the bag. That shouldn't have made me feel so strongly.
@@cyber_runner Honestly, this film has some really strong uses of "Show Don't Tell" that say so much more than with words. I really love how despite the space of the house increasing, they generally didn't space apart from each other any more than in the original house, until they started distancing in their relationship.
this is one of the most beautiful short that i have the opportunity to see, represent as is a real couple: working together to overcame the obstacles of life, in a relationship marked for love and trust, enjoying the life happily as it should be, is really precious.
Ain't gonna lie, after watching this, this made me cry, because it was very beautiful and I think at times this is all we want, somebody who shares the same dreams and understanding who cares for you, this, this is beautiful. ;-;
"My wife and I were about to divorce so she smashed a hole in our wall" Seriously though, this animation is so cute and heartwarming. I love the simplistic style of the 3D models and the lighting looks gorgeous.
Johnny think he meant that media like this typically shows the guy as the one who screws it up, and this is the only time he’s seen it the other way around.
Dear Fernanda Frick, I know you probably won't read this. No one will probably ever read this. But if anyone ever does, I want you to know that I have spent years as an artist and that this, by far, blows away anything I've ever seen. I would be astoundingly proud to have made this not I were you. This made me cry. Twice in the same few minutes. First, with sadness. Then again with joy. I hope you find or have the happiness that they have. At the end. Because the middle scares me. Sincerely, a huge fan
Don King Yea I read this.... remember me when your famous.... I’ll also be famous.... we can be famous together? Never meet tho.... just two random dudes being famous.... LOL
This was beautiful...................it really shows that most humans end up spending there hole life working to have a better life. But we get to side tracked from our real dreams, and we never get the chance to make them real, this short film left me in tears.
what I really like about this couple - they don't blame each other for their difficulties and problems. That's amazing, wish more people would get it. It's not about the difficulties you face, but how you react to them together. Also, their plan wasn't cancelled, just postponed. By working at their companies, they learned a lot of skills, and probably managed to sock away quite a lot of money as capital for the new bakery.
I wish there were more shorts or animations like this. There are a LOT of crazy good animations with great back stories, but I think this one really stands out. They took a real life struggle that some couples have, and made a relatable animation on it. These creations really pop out at me. To sum it all up, this was spectacular.
Darn it UA-cam algorithm I’m five years late because of you! This piece is so beautiful, I’m sure it will continue to make people cry and feel so many emotions five years from now. Congratulations to everyone who took part in making this rewarding masterpiece!
This is what marriage is. It's passion, and love, and dreams for the future at first, that evolves into responsbilities, and boredom, and ruts, and kids, and drifting apart........and then back together.......and repeat........and repeat........and repeat. There are times you can't wait to be together and times you wish you could just go your own way. You fall into and out of love over and over again. And if you just stick with it, before you know it, you're in your 70's and can look back at all you've shared and endured. We celebrate our 50th anniversary soon. And I'm so glad we stuck it out.
I love how instead of putting an arguement about the kitchen and makes us feel a lot of pressure, they only hurted each other by accident and break the figures to symbolize the broken the relationship very clean :0
I started to cry as soon as the cat stated that she doesn't want to start the bakery anymore. After the relationship struggles after that, I was rejoicing by the end. This was incredible. I love the animation style, and the story was inspiring!
SunSpot 다인 so she *IS* a cat, I was wondering about that . Well, it's my fault i should have known that, since she doesn't have a snout like her husband's.
Я всегда говорил и буду говорить, что всё гениальное-просто. Простая история, простые персонажи и простая цель-главные атрибуты любого кино и короткометражек.
Dude when the video ended I legit got confused when I felt water drip down my face. I was like wtf is this and then I realized I was tearing up. Damn, this was beautiful.
I would understand if they were like, 'We will be a perfect couple!' or something like that, but that's just something everyone says. Of course no one means it will actually be perfect.
I think they mean their own faulty version of perfect, that why the little statue keeps breaking, it will never be perfect again, it will always have cracks but they can rebuild and be happy again 🥰
When you choose your job over your spouse, even though youve been together for years- they can suddenly feel like they dont matter to you anymore. Always remember to communicate and put your partners needs in mind
I think it takes understanding on both ends. Some things are out of your partners hands like having to work late despite making plans beforehand or maybe something takes longer than expected due to something out of their control. But I guess that just tied into communication.
@@Leegen2118 No, let me give you life advice; The only ones who will remember you worked late, are your loved ones who are living a life absent of you. Don't take life too seriously, you never make it out alive in the end and miss out on the beautiful things you couldn't see due to overworking and being stressed.
Communication is important but the husband in this film didn't communicate to his wife at all, he was just passive aggressive by ignoring her and giving her the silent treatment and never actually telling her what was wrong. He wanted her to quit the career she had worked so hard on because he held HIS wants of having a bakery above his spouses' career. He eventually manipulated her into quitting everything she worked for by threatening divorce, and then when she finally succumbed to his manipulation, he went right back to being lovey-dovey with her because he got what he wanted. Sorry for the essay but damn I just realized how shitty the husband in this film was being after a rewatch lol. He doesn't love his wife unconditionally, he only loves her when she's doing what he wants her to. She never ignored him and was actively trying to show love to him and maintain the relationship despite their busy schedules. But that wasn't enough for him. (I bet he was jealous and felt inferior because she was making so much more money than he was LMAO)
I really love the way their house reflects their emotional state. It was so small but cozy, so colourful at the beginning but lost all its colours, became so dull and empty as they did.
@@idontwantanysubscribers1157 I know youre joking but the whole message about "quit ur job and achieve ur dreams" is kind of what this animation is saying, which, news flash, is fucking impossible unless you were born into at least medium wealth to afford all the bills of not only running a business, but also survivability.
*warning spoilers* The choice of color for the house and the couple is great! You can really see as they gain more money and lose sight of their dream they become complacent and lose excitement in their lives. Color (early days) vs black and white (bland new life that feels secure for the couple). It shows that sometimes we go through life scared of taking risks but in the end, if we do take the risk, there will be a great reward. :)
Loner Wolf also, the light gets less and less, but when she takes the final choice, it all regains colour. Also, when they build the house there's an apparent feeling better, because every time it shows more light
I love how simple the art style is in this it's clear the animators didn't have a massive budget but they put the limitations to there advantage to make a really beautiful looking animation I especially love the lighting and how it tells the story.
It seemed to me than one of them wanted to ensure their relationship while the other one got stuck into the job priorities. And honestly it's adorable how at the end they managed to have a new plan that brought stability to them, not only financially
Omg what a mind blowing thing I didn’t even catch. This is always saying what’s the plan, the plan, the plan… etc. I didn’t even know how it applied directly to this story. I just knew they were planning, but wow they made plans for financial growth and then shifted for plans for their relational growth- and that was the most important planning! 😱 Amazing
The Academy Awards literally has an Oscar specifically for "Best Animated Feature Film" and one for "Best Animated Short" in addition to qualifying for visual effects and music categories.
The amount of detail put into this piece really shows. The richer they got, the colder the environment became. All of the colors are dull and lifeless. Even just having the glass dolls break, the subtle messages are sooo good. Really shows how money just does not buy happiness. Sure it can bring comfort but it's not worth sacrificing so much of what you love for it. This is just so well made. one of my all time fav animations for sure, just wonderful work
The screenplay is really simple but with the animation, cinematograpy and acting choices you made the story was enhanced, visual storytelling at its finest. You are a really talented director.
I don't think that the story being simple is a point against the short. The story being simple helps the message be more clear, and its such a universall message that I can´t actually see that as a flaw. Most movies don't get its themes so well developed as this little film could in only 20 minutes. That's something I'm sure is worth celebrating. And yes, the direction and visual storytelling is on point :)
She could've been looking for evaporated milk, shelf stable milk, powdered milk, condensed milk, canned coconut milk...none of those need refrigeration.
@@iraidarodriguez8929 that's a good guess, the milk ingredient would be stored in the pantry not the fridge. Still at this point in the story, they haven't baked in years...
Always come back to this animation at least once a year. Just something about it the message is a good reminder. And I make a rule to watch it straight through with no distractions or clicking off or pausing.

Yup! Mood lightning can really affect how a story plays out. The lightning and colors were really thought-out well!
No stories.

@@Ohmman it doesn't. The message is that you need to work to achieve your dreams, even if you start to forget why you're working.

The choice of color for the house and the couple is great! :)

I don't think that the story being simple is a point against the short. The story being simple helps the message be more clear, and its such a universall message that I can´t actually see that as a flaw.
