Good video. Thanks! It's so sad and mad, but it's natural life. Is there a footage about a pack of lions rescuing and picking up a lion cub taken away by a group of buffalos? So the film title could be "Saving Private Lion" =D
That was pretty noble and courageous of that buffalo herd to TRY to save the calf. Too bad they didn't muster up that tribal fortitude a little sooner before the little guy got partially disemboweled. Most buffalo herds simply flee immediately without question -- leaving whoever ended up selected as dinner to their grisly fate unchallenged. Shows promise, buffalo! Keep up the evolution!
I really love seeing the very young lions learning and trying to take part in the kill......like at 5:47 that little youngen went after the buffalo as it took off running again. Great video, Rob!! Thanks!! 👍🏻🦁💜
why are some people hating on the cameraman? He did a pretty good job of editing a 9:27 video for us to watch. while I love lions and usually wish them success when hunting, I found myself cheering on the calf and admiring his fight to stay alive.
Always like Rob's videos but again wonder if the herd would have circled the lions (as in some videos) if all the safari vehicles were not in the way. Interesting behavioral changes all around.
Damn i love seeing the othawa boys. Thanks again Rob! Yes i feel bad for the buffalo calf but it's nature at it's purest form. If Lions don't eat... they die. Simple. They need meat to sustain their physical conditioning.
Can someone explain please why lions never seem to attack the people observing in the vehicles, which are completely wide open and exposed? I read lately somewhere that observation vehicles in India must be quite closed and protected as tigers WILL attack open vehicles. I don't know if that's true or not. Does anyone know for an absolute fact if there *is* such a behavioural difference between these closely related predators?
{Angelus} yeah it is, you actually can see the wound it’s just not as obvious because of the mud but you can definitely see where the skin has been peeled away.
Plenty of opportunities for just 1 of the lions to go for the wind pipe. I couldn't understand why they didn't kill it asap. The calf kept calling out which brought the adults back. So many lions were just hanging out too. Interesting video👍
This seems to be a very young pride as u see multiple males mature prides usually have one dominate male and large females that while go for the neck and won't let go until last resort knowing a quick kill is the best
I cannot believe how many people dislike this video and complain about lions attacking a buffalo. What kind of bizarre first-world disconnection with reality do you live with?
I agree with wolfie....lions could easily lose their pray because of human curiousity...a bit selfish to gamble just for a video, plus it's not even that good
1) Where is the adult lion of this pride? Why is he not hunting/participating in a kill with them? 2) The buffalo baby that escaped - what are his chances with such a large if shallow wound? Can he make it to adulthood?
I notice the vehicles y'all are riding in do not have cages. Do lions try to pull people out of the vehicles? How many people die each year at these parks?
Lions are used to these vehicles since they were cubs. With people inside they view them as big moving object w/ no threat. It's amazing how these lion come within few meter of the vehicle and roar next to your ear hole!
I've seen a lion attack a vehicle, and that's only because the driver accidently rolled on her paw. Even when she attacked the vehicle, she never went after the people in the vehicle, she only focused on attacking the tires and so did the rest of her pride.
@@taih588 lions have charged with warnings on them vehicles. Even hyenas. And I've heard of a few actually attack and jump in safari vehicle w tourists.
I'm only going by observation here, but I think it's because we're not livestock to them. In other words, we're not prey, or don't appear that way, yet. We're not part of their animal kingdom, and they lack information about us. We seldom interact with their kind as well. To add to that, the only time they will for sure attack a human close by is when they feel threatened by them, which these people in the video are being mindful of.
Human interference or not ,the lion will always hunt the buffalo.Past,present,future.There is nothing anybody can do.I am pretty sure if there were no humans around, the lions would still hunt and kill some buffalo.I know it's hard to watch a calf being eaten alive, but it would happen regardless.Circle of life. Many lions are killed by the buffalo as well. But these jeeps were in the way for nature to take its course.
....the Evolution of the buffaloes still needs time..to handle straight ahead..without hesitating in there behaivour .. the herd needs a alpha leader ..usually a buffallo herd can defend to Lions when this comes in evolution somethime...
MrSupermax77 evolution is the more suitable genes that survive the environment. Mental power is not included. Plus it’s suppose to be like this, that’s how nature works currently because that’s is the cycle of life. Nothing to do with evolution because Carnivores will stay carnivorous and Herbivores will continue to eat plants. Evolution doesn’t make buffalos better and interrupt the food chain. If it does the Carnivores will also adapt and evolve as a gene mutates that proves to be better for them to live on, and that will survive and pass on that gene which leads to evolution of that specie.
@@abcdef5010 ...ok - dont expect this great quantum transition in a medium term - maby they get straight ahead horns sometime so that will be more effectiv in the defence or attack .. in anyway .. we shall not experience this - but the next easier obviously step to changing is the buffalo herd get the conviction to react and act fast so they can surprised the lions ....allthough, the lions evolutions also will be not rest in the meantime....?!
MrSupermax77 well ya every specie is evolving, maybe in a million years they will look different, be different because what makes organisms evolve is based on environments. They need to survive in their own environment. But those evolutions are not intentional persay based on what they want, it’s no like in movies of televisions they just gets the power to be better or stronger than their predators. All evolutions are unintentional like it’s all based off of mutations and mutations are random it just natural selection to determine which mutation will help them the most therefore they could then survive and pass off offsprings containing those genes that makes those species what they are right now. But all of them probably still be predator prey relations. As long as the organism can live on through non human interference then that organism is successful as it can keep on passing off offsprings that keeps them alive. It doesn’t have to be that they will all be safe and won’t be hunted by lions by developing straight horn, because that horn might not ever be developed, and maybe even if it is the curved horns can still live on because even with curved horns they are still passing off springs and continue their species and will only result in 2 types of buffalos curved horn ones and straight ones. Those changes make no real difference. Or maybe those mutations happens be worse than the original genes therefore they get out competed and die and never happens to has offsprings. Behavioral evolution may also occurs but there is currently no need because they continue to survive even though they are being hunted by lions, since all organisms die and hunt in some sort because that’s the nature of the cycle. But of course the prerequisites is that animals won’t be extinct because of humans
Cape buffalo are hardy animals, they survive by being tough and resilient. Here’s the thing you need to know about infection : in nature infection is not a given it’s a game of chance , sometimes animals can get infections in their wounds if it’s severe enough (and exposed to pathogenic elements) other times cuts are merely superficial and heal over quickly. You’ll also notice Wild ungulates are generally more resistant to disease than their domestic counterparts, they have to be in order to survive on their own.
you have to literally change their mindset to think that they are bigger and stronger just like a lions mindset is i run from nobody no matter how big or strong they look
I've noticed in many different safari videos the guides refer to lions and buffalo in a different language when talking on the radio. Why is that, and what language is that?

Rob The Ranger Wildlife Videos was there a resident dominant male(s)? Those two males seemed too inexperienced to protect that territory but yet too old to be tolerated by their father(s)!
Perhaps it was because they knew that something was still present that could have interrupted their feast significantly, which in this case could have been the returning buffalo who made several attempts to save their kin.. They could have also been sitting around it because of how close the observers were, though I find that much less likely. Although.. By the time that the calf got to the water, I don't really know why they continued to.. "play" with their food.

I wouldn't say partially disembowelled. That calf just had the skin taken off. If it doesn't get infected, that wound will heal.
