Great work. I just used this myself and it worked out perfectly. One suggestion would be at 1:00 where you forcefully pull away the cover. This effectively destroys the water proofing gasket. If you can just separate the back and then very, very slowly pull it apart, the seal can stay perfectly intact ensuring your watch will be waterproof after the repair.

I cannot believe I finished this successfully. First, it is hard to get the back plate off. When they say to use a lot of force, I applied enough force to open a jar of pickles and it suddenly popped while trying to get leverage with the tool. The ribbon that holds the battery to the motherboard isn't a connector. It sits in an enclosure of the same shape, so you just have to pop it out of place. If you pry on the side opposite of the ribbon of death, you'll lower the likelihood of breaking it. The force that you have to use need to be even and deliberate. I normally hamfist things, but I made sure to take it extra slow. The battery is glued to the back of the motherboard, and you're not going to be able to lift up the battery in the motherboard until you disconnect the battery ribbon. Are you trying to cry the battery off of the back of the motherboard, don't pry it. Cut through the glue with a tool until it separates. It's so much easier putting it back together then taking it apart.
Thank You very much for making a short and straight to the point video. Your camera work and detail was right on point. Opening up the watch after the initial four screws was troublesome at first with the plastic tool but instead of using the tool that came with the battery that I purchased off EBAY I used a drywall / box cutter knife that I got for a buck from the dollar tree. Worked like a charm. After that it took me less than 15 minutes for the whole swap, including double checking. I can't thank you enough. I'm lucky enough to have two Gear 3 watches so I will use this for now and fix the other later. Thank You sir.
Great video, made the replacement very easy. From start to finish, took about 20 minutes, including time to pause and play back to see more detail. Thank you for the help!

I can't get the screws out. I am pretty sure that because I spend my day working in a freezer, and then come out into humid Florida, the screw are rusted in place. Bummer. I will keep using it in power saving mode until I can afford the new watch.

Amazon sells them for around $20. I would suggest if you do this repair, go to a cell phone repair store and see if they have an electronics heating pad to warm up the rubber seal. I did this repair and had to damage my rear case to get the seal to break.

It won't even be water resistant. Can you help with this? I really don't want to take my watch apart without being able to make sure it is waterproof when I put it back together. Thanks for any help you can give!
Hi Chris! This is a repair I did for my father and he wasn’t concerned so I didn’t bother, however, there are replacement seals online! I can’t speak to the quality/effectiveness of the aftermarket or third party seals that are out there, but if Samsung offers the part I would strongly recommend going with them. As far as the watch in the video goes, my father wears it on a daily basis (it gets rained on for short periods, he washes his hands with it on so it may get splashed) and he has had no issues so far. That being said, experiences vary and it’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to these things!

I had issues with the watch shutting down every time I would sweat. Would have to use a hair dryer and sit out in the sun to get it to come back on.
