More ppl are going off from OW, theres a excitation at start but after some games you start to see crazyness and wrongs of army balance and army rooster creation problems.
Hey guys, Josh has mentioned you'd like to know what put me off the old world. This is predominantly an Old World Channel which is perfectly fine, if you're digging the Old World good for you, I'm merely a guest on this show. I will just list some dot points as to what I didn't like. - Random charges - improvement on 8th edition, still not a big fan, perfectly fine with measuring/premeasure. - Magic phase - I miss the game within a game - There seemed to be a lot more skirmishers in the game, to me it made skirmishers feel less special - Linehammer - Not sure if this is still a thing or not, but I didn't like the idea of it from the get-go - Not sure which fallback rule it is, but the one where you can reform after losing a combat when you fall back seemed a bit strange? - Initiative bonus for charging - sometimes really easy to work out, sometimes really awkward - The pushback mechanic - less feel bad moments, felt like a very grindy game, taking a break check to me felt unexciting - Volley Fire / Shoot in two ranks or more(not sure what it's called) - I could never justify paying for models in ranks that don't fire - Marching column - seemed a bit unnecessary, may be great to get a unit back into the game, seen some really 'creative' ways of breaking it, some silly movement and fly abilities - Rank bonus cap seemed a bit low at 2 unless your units had horde? - The victory point scoring system - Percentages for army construction and how easily it is abused - 1 lord per 1000 points - Base size increase - Psychology, namely fear seemed a bit underwhelming, maybe in 6th/7th it was a tad OP but I much prefer that to the old world version. - combat reforms - overrun when your unit is charged?? - 3 saves on a dragon lord - The need to have a dragon and/or a level 4 - The game feels like a job to play There are probably some more but I can't think of them off the top of my head. After GW blew up the WHFB I was kind of sad that it had all ended, when I look back at it now I'm glad they blew it. It made me realise that I want to play the game for the game and enjoy it, not for the community behind it. PS. 6th edition is far from perfect.
@@benkochskamper3092 thanks for the response! Btw don’t take my question as demanding an explanation why you don’t like the perfect old world system, I’m always just curious to hear people’s different opinions on the various editions and why they prefer one over another
@@glimmer_twin All good, there was no pressure at all. As this channel is an old world channel I just wanted to tread lightly :). Personally I'd prefer to be playing 7th core with 6th ed army books but it seems that is a tough sell.
Great to see some 6th ed content! Me and a group of friends picked up 6th ed last year again after a 15 year break. Even after old world came out we haven't looked back carrying on with 6th ed and putting together some bat reps!
I worked for GW when 6th Ed came out. I read the book cos I loved fantasy but the only games I played were in an internal tournament where I beat the rest of my store. Thing is my army is sent painted and to progress I had to fully paint my army so I dropped out went to uni and left the hobby for 20 years. 6th sounds great and I’m somewhat happy I don’t have the nostalgia for it if it was better than old world!
hey do you have somewhere where your campaign rules etc are available? i'm trying to formulate a narrative campaign for my gaming group using general's compendium and warhammer skirmish adapted to TOW but i'd really love to see how these things are run as i've never done it before - no pressure of course, love this content!
For sure. My campaign book is here - drive.google.com/file/d/1yH0LhYsFqDJxMXcIhaW8d0PU0YOrfN5A/view?usp=drive_link it's a pretty unique ruleset I designed that strips out a lot of the fiddly tile rules used in the compendium and focuses on using the tiles to dictate what actually happens in the battles themselves
Great episode lads
Would be interesting to hear why Ben bounced off of the old world so much. What particular changes from 6th did you find the hardest to enjoy?

He has some strong opinions but I think he was trying to hold back a bit! I can get him to expound on all his thoughts if you want to hear

6rh was the whfb version of most of my youth, will follow this one too. (Though I play 7th with friends)

Yeah, 6th ed is my favorite. But I’m also fairly happy with TOW and I’m sure it will get tuned up reasonably soon.
Might be an idea to split into a different channel, UA-cam algorithm and all
We'll see. It's only one a month at this stage
