    Shout-out to you guys for teaching about Ike Jime. Underrated technique that IMO lessens the suffering of the fish on top of making the food much better. Big ups 👍

    Pro tip: accurately measure your hand, foot, or something that is always on you. My hand is exactly 8”. I can easily tell if a fish is 16” my two hands. If it’s too close for that test, throw it back. Or it will be immediately obviously bigger.

    Hi I’m 11 years old I tried using worms for bait at a duck pond but I couldn’t catch anything. How do I catch a fish with worms?

    • @Fishing22798
      @Fishing22798 4 місяці тому +3

      If you weren’t catching fish using worms that’s a problem you have probably no fishing experience

    • @ClaytonBrachmann
      @ClaytonBrachmann 4 місяці тому

      Okay what kind of worms were you using real worms or artificial in you got to your local dicks or Walmart you can but fake bass worms I recommend getting a purple senko worm and buy some eagles claw weedless hooks and you put the worm on the hook and real it in very slowly when you feel a bite let the bass take the worm and then set the hook. You may also not be fishing in a good place some places I would recommend in pa are lake wallenpaulpack core creek Tyler state park or lake nockimixion if you don’t live in pa you can find some good bass ponds on the fish Brain app good luck also can you plz reply to my comment if you find it helpful

      Guessing you're in the US/Canada? Also guessing you used the typical "hook, split shot, bobber" setup? What region are you fishing in and do you know what fish are in there? Did any of your worms get stolen, or were they simply ignored?
      My guess is either a) the pond you were fishing only has something like goldfish or, b) 2:49 most fish tend to hang out relatively shallow near some type of cover, and beginning anglers often cast straight out toward deeper water, and away from potential snags. There's an old saying, "If you're not getting snagged, you're fishing in wrong spots." You might get lucky & land near a rock pile or over a patch of weeds. But you'll often have better luck casting down the shoreline, under overhanging trees, near the edge of weedlines or over submerged weeds if you can see them.
      For bluegills/sunfish/yellow perch, you want to hook the worm multiple times so that it's harder for them to tear off without getting hooked, or pinch off a section and thread it onto the hook. I typically use #4-10 Aberdeen or cricket hooks. Speaking of which, bluegills love most insects- crickets are the easiest to buy, but invertebrates are the bulk of their diet- keeping insects on the hook can be the biggest challenge. A few to avoid though, are annual (dog day) cicadas, katydids, and certain caterpillars. Narrow bobbers like pencil bobbers are good for finicky fish, like trout walleye, but bluegills are anything but finicky. They swarm baits like seagulls on a dropped plate. And the classic round bobber is buoyant enough that, paired with a thin wire hook, fish tend to hook themselves. You can also catch them without the bobber. Just watch the line, to try and prevent them from swallowing the hook. That's where cricket hooks come in handy. They have a longer shank. For trout you want it to look more natural. Use a slip sinker (~⅛ oz.) and either powebait, or hook a red worm through the collar and let it sit on the bottom. Put it in a holder and watch the line and rod tip for signs that something is tugging at it. Catfish/bullheads are similar, but use a bigger hook (circle hooks are great for catfish- I'd start with 1/0 or 2/0), a bit more weight, and either nightcrawlers (gobbed on the hook like for bluegill) or chicken liver.
      If you haven't had any interest in your bait after about 30 minutes, move it. For bluegill that can be as simple as reeling your line in 5-10 ft and waiting a bit longer. For catfish, I would reel in and cast to a different area. Catfish tend to zero in on bait pretty quickly.c

      I think you should try a different live bait like (minnows,shiners,and fish if you want a bass if you are trying to get a bass you should use blue gill or what ever you call it)

      Try a different location and your not always going to catch a fish on a worm u could also try minnows or crank bate

    Great spot I've fished many times. I won't spot burn, don't worry. I used to fish it by kayak before I got my boat. It was actually much easier, lot less to worry about. I've never tied off to it. Always thought that would be frowned upon, like tying off to any other nav aid. I guess this really can't be considered a nav aid any longer. Doesn't even have a day marker afaik like some old disused lighthouses do. I just worry about the riprap around the base. Makes for good fishing but bad boating. Unless you're in the market for a new prop or skeg on your $30,000 outboard.

      - Good I'm glad they got caught. This is why our oceans are running out of fish. People illegally fish && unfortunately a lot of people do not get caught. I've been to RI, I'm from CT but have never fished there. Only fished in SC && CT. I'd love to one day hopefully soon. I just wouldn't know where to start unless I did one of these trips.
