I agree. Sadly every time I post a mackerel video I have people in the comments clowning me for eating "bait". Had to put this video out to show them what they're missing out on!
@Tackle2thePeople Wouldn't it be better to use it as bait to catch tastier fish like Tuna? You would also make money from using it as bait rigjt? Plus if your catching them from a boat it costs money to get out there, catching some Tuna would cover the cost and provide a bigger and tastier meal. Thanks for using my "and sure enough" in your most recent short!😂
I am of the opinion that there are very few actual trash fish. Everyone's pallet is different and cooking technique goes very far. Also great to see your face. I know it takes a lot to put yourself out there and I appreciate it.
Sturgeon is considered trash fish by a lot of people because they’re bottom feeders. But we harvest caviar from them and if you’ve never tried sturgeon meat it’s one of if not the best eating fish in the world. Fry it up and it’s literally like a fried chicken texture, taste and all
Nice vid man, your so UNDERRATED even if it’s in the cold weather, different places, you still keep up with the content, giving us more fishing content even in the winter, my seasons over, your one of the only fishing channels I watch during the winter, KEEP UP THE GRIND!❤❤❤
Chiming in on your comment about salting fish as a preservation technique: that is 100% true. I brought that up with my grandmother at thanksgiving this year since I have been getting some nice croaker over here in California and wanted to know how she cooked them. She was born back when Korea was just one country, undivided and grew up during the occupation. She said that they used to eat plenty of fish and that to keep them from going bad they would salt them then dry them out in the sun. They did not have refrigerators so I guess it was better than letting it rot. As an added bonus, salted and dried fish is absolutely delicious when fried in a thin layer of oil.
Occupation? We were not occupiers we were helping you SK people from being dirty communists remember you invited us all there and your welcome! Looking at sk I definitely prefer it over nk or China
Mackerel and Bonito are actually tasty. Heck, the Pacific and Atlantic Bonito will look and taste like tuna meat on the inside if you bleed these fish properly.
I LOVE mackerel, especially king mackerel. I know a lot of people dislike them for their high oil content, but they taste great anyways. They taste great if you cooked them in a pan, fried them, or just turn them into dip. They are not trash fish!
Thanks for taking us along! I'm very picky about the fish I eat. I basically don't like any fishy taste and mainly eat fresh water catfish, crappie and large sunfish. As for saltwater fish, I only eat white meat bottom fish. No matter what type of fish it is, if I'm going to eat the fish I make sure that I brain spike, cut the gills to completely bleed them, and then I immediately put the fish on ice! I know how much better this makes the fish taste! Tight lines and God bless y'all
keep making videos by far my favorite fishing ytber. Your videos got me back into fishing after some bad memories with fishing. keep doing ya thing homie, God Bless
Here in Argentina we use Mackerel (Called: Magrú, Caballa, etc), as canned bait for Argentinian SIlverside (Pejerrey) fishing, or as chopped up bait for bigger fish. Also amazing to eat butterflied or fillet just as you said. Never ever I've heard it being called a trash fish at al lol I guess ppl in the US are picky, believe it or not lol! Keep up the great videos, they're all amazing!
Mackerel is tasty (I usually season and marinate [I use citrus and teriyaki and marinade] mackerel) especially when I serve it with rice and vegetables (I usually boil carrots and broccoli and cook snow peas and squash) and serve it with a side of miso soup.
Amazing work catching and cleaning that mackerel. I’m glad you aren’t afraid to show the whole process blood and all on UA-cam. Here for the giveaway too. Thanks!
I personally prefer to have the head on. Mainly because my grandpa swore that you should always buy fish with the heads still on to ensure quality. Love grilled mackerel.
We have tons of Spanish mackerel here in Texas. Mostly people don't eat them but they're much better than seatrout. I even prefer them to redfish. They don't freeze well unless they're brined and smoked first but fresh they're firm and white. Since nobody keeps them we catch 5-6 pounders [pretty regularly and they fight like demons.
Aside from tasting very good, they are also pretty fun on light gear! If you have them in reach and rather shallow water, you can catch them on light jigs and stuff.
In the good ol’ ‘merican south we have much bigger mackerel. Even the small ones would probably eat those size mackerel for dinner! I’ve never tried mackerel but im sure its delicious.
I usually ocean fish and i just got to lake fish for the first time yesterday. I caught my first bass thanks to some techniques i learned from your vids. Thanks homie.
Not every fish is meant to be fried There's grilling.. smoking. If properly prepared mackerel and Blue fish are delicious. Just use UA-cam or Google to find delicious. recipes.
Hey man love the videos, and the vlogs with Albert are always awesome! Thanks for giving inspiration to get back into freshwater fishing! (Btw I just went to comment for the giveaway and accidentally got sucked in and watch the whole video😂)
I get this a lot with skipjack herring and freshwater drum in the waters near me. I get a lot of funny looks, but they are both excellent for the smoker
love the video. it’s interesting because i grew up eating this fish maybe like once a week. but interesting to see that not everyone thinks these fish are good
Hey man I know this isn't relevant to this video, but your foldable kayak, I'm thinking about getting one. my only real concern is if it's easy to paddle in open water and is the seat good at keeping you upright. Any information would be really appreciated
Love your videos! Not sure if you guys have them out there, but if you do you should do a catch and cook with croaker. Korean salted/dried and fried croaker is delicious. Pretty similar process to this, just cooked gutted with the head on.
Hey T2TP, I have been a fan for years. You are one of the only fishing UA-camrs that still post. I am here for the giveaway and I am stoked for your next vid! have a nice day!😊
"One of the only fishing youtubers that still posts..." What? There's more fishing content than ever. And there's probably a lot of smaller youtubers in your area that still post regularly.
The only reason mackerel becoming trash is when you leave them under the sun, which happens normally on party boat scene. I would recommend to make mackerel pasta if you have done, yet.
i living in Turkiye and we love this fish especially in the winter season. Also I heard that people dont like to bluefish in America. we die for it lol :))))
I wish I could try some fresh Mackerel, I have only had canned and it's one of my favorite snacks. I like it so much better than any other canned fish.
Mackerel are great to eat, you oly need to know how to prepare them good .And they are great to catch then especially on lighter equipment. Great video !
I've never heard of mackerel being called a trash fish. One of the tastiest fish.
Yea mackerel are really good and are defintely not a trash fish.

I agree. Sadly every time I post a mackerel video I have people in the comments clowning me for eating "bait". Had to put this video out to show them what they're missing out on!

All fish are worth giving a try without listening to others' opinions.
Never heard it being called trash fish!
But warm smoked mackerel in tomato sauce is amazing, we love it in Denmark!
I used to catch mackerel all the time in Nova Scotia, with my father my uncle and his son. It was always a blast

Nicely done I've eaten Bonito Mackerel Jack Crevalle and all are good I scale them and cook them skin and all

My favorite fish to eat as well. Rare to catch them down in New Jersey now days.

BUT THEY HAVE TOO MUCH MERCURY AND LEAD
@@Nathanw113 It’s really not that serious.

If you hold the mackrel behind the head you can put your finger in its mouth and crack back you can dispatch it quicker
