A couple of years back, watching a rat swim into a marina while fishing, 10" away from the wall, massive splash.....no rat! Next evening I returned with my rat lure...BANG! Lovely 13lb Pike!
Yeah, ive been spinning on he swale for trout many many years ago and have caught alot of chub doing that, very suprising when a 5lb chub snags onto ya little mepps spinner...
@@jamesalexander5588 they come in so easily after about 20 seconds of fight.... There just wet lettuces after that... Nowt compared to barbel... But still good on a spinner...
Your bloody mental mate. I'm not surprised that it worked though. I once caught a decent pike that choked up the very dead body of a fully grown rat. Yuk!
I don't understand why people find it strange that a predator will eat anything that fits in it's mouth. Pike especially, those mofo's will eat ducks / seagulls / small dogs / cats ect~ they just have to get big enough.
When I was a kid in the 1970s I found an old fishing book that was probably from the 1950s and one of the pages told how to fish with a live mouse as bait. It was rigged just like your thumbnail, a rubber band around the mouse which would hold the hook. I never used a live mouse for bait but that page of the book stuck with me forever!
Great video. My missus would freak out if she found a bag of mice in the freezer! Lol. She's terrified of them. I see an article many years ago, think it was the 70's in angling times. It was Dick Walker & a mate, catching Pike on full-size brown rats!! Dead ones. They were fishing gravel pit, where Rats used to swim across to the island, for the birds eggs. They landed a few. Great channel love it. 👍
A few years back I was fishing in a well known local river which is a tributary to the river Thames, I was fishing for Chub and having a good session. Whilst fishing a Rat was keeping me amused swimming backwards and forwards across the river with pieces of bread that people had been feeding the Ducks with earlier and had landed in the reeds so the rivers flow hadn’t washed it down stream. Anyway on its way across on the poor chaps final time a huge Pike came up from underneath him and took him whole , I honestly couldn’t believe it, the flipping thing WAS massive. I have never seen that behavior before or since I might add but it truly shocked me.
Cracking upload. Despite what bait you were using, it was a nice moment in helping the little chap out, he dont know how lucky he was!. Congrats on new arrival and looking forward to new uploads.
Ginger fisherman is the future for anglers world wide his videos and content are by far the most entertaining and insperaratiinal you will find... Chris deserves a channel on Netflix or sky sports etc.. 100% my hero lol
I found with luring predatory species, my very best results come not from casting my lures into the water, but casting onto a bank, or any structure out of the water, and letting the lure fall into the water from there. Where there's overhanging tree branches, casting into the water under branches gives a similar success rate. When you think about it, you're trying to fool the fish into thinking a mouse has fallen into the water, so asking yourself "fallen from where though," and casting there is a good starting point to figure out where the fish may lie.
That's what I wanted to mention. Anything from rabies to hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome. Never touch mice and never touch their poopies, use face mask when cleaning out dusty places where mice could be.
I have been hunting pike, in the UK, for 60 years. So, this experiment with mice and rats is very interesting. What next, a realistic looking duckling? That would prove out that theory. Peace and goodwill
First I will say CONGRATULATIONS on the new baby. I was impressed the way you managed to make those mice look as though they were swimming naturally. Chub swallowing a big mouse surprised me. Most enjoyable 🎣👍
Chris, congratulations on your new arrival. Great video once again. Looking for pike fishing advice - what is you long Reach river bank landing net ? Thank you and keep up the good work 😊 ❤ 👍
Just an idea 💡 As you used rats as bait / politicians/ how about using chicks , they also can be purchased from a reptile shop and would fit in with the natural foods 😉
"I swear down guys, I thought I was gonna end up with in the bag with the others, but somehow I managed to give the great gingey the slip" - that mouse when he was down at the rodent pub later that evening
I've been a keen angler for decades but didn't know Chub fed on rats & mice, obviously knew Pike would take them but really surprised to learn Chub feed on them as well.
Great session, the missed hook ups can be expected with only a front mounted treble, and perhaps like you said Chris, leaving a fish to turn might have resulted in a few more. Interesting, you deffo need to revisit this in the future.👍
Great video as always. We just spent most of July and August on your beautiful canal in our narrowboat. We moored very close to where you caught the big chub and my missus saw a grass snake come out of the undergrowth opposite where you were fishing and swim across the canal. I saw quite a few big chub around there
We play "rat in a hole"in Ontario, sort of. We anchor, cast our jig up on a log, sit quiet for 3 or 5 minutes, then gently pull your jig into the water and work it back.
Maybe circle hooks wood be good ? When the fish strikes at the rat undo the bail arm and let the fish eat it and then set the hook and because of the circle hook you can let the fish eat it fir longer Only a theory Nice video 🎉
When i was a kid i used to fish that bit of river especially to the right of the train bridge nearest to town . Used to chuck casters down and fished on the surface for the chub . Never considered rats but have fished with bees on the canal !
The mouse who was freed when he gets home to his friends: "So there was this giant red creature trying to catch me while I was chilling on my boat. He grabbed me with his gigantic net but I just managed to escape. He tried to grab me again but obviously I was way to fast for such a big red monster. When he saw how fast I was, he didn't even try to run after me"
Another awesome Video deffo get back to the Canal & River for round 2 maybe a multi species challenge Pike,Perch,Chub & Trout If you have any in the rivers near you
I wonder if there is such a thing as a polaroid lens for cameras to have the same effect as shades, so we could see when theres a pike coming when its sunny... would be so cool to see...
Now I know what to do with the mice I catch during the colder months. Could be fun summer fishing next year! I¨ll probably rig the mice with two sets of hooks with a wire stinger tackle, one hook at the head and one further back on the body.
Was using my friends boat that was in storage over the winter. While fishing I saw a mouse come out of the stern. I flicked it overboard with my pole. Seconds later I heard a splash and mouse was gone. The whole family came out and one by one they didn’t last 20 seconds in the water 😂

Would love u to take me pike fishing as iv been out many times lately around my area's and blanked.. had good few tho over the years.....
A couple of years back, watching a rat swim into a marina while fishing, 10" away from the wall, massive splash.....no rat! Next evening I returned with my rat lure...BANG! Lovely 13lb Pike!
Chub always surprise me at how much of a vicious predator they can be for something that looks like a Roach.
Chub have some serious teeth in their throats, but yh they are definitely a bit of a sleepy.
Yeah, ive been spinning on he swale for trout many many years ago and have caught alot of chub doing that, very suprising when a 5lb chub snags onto ya little mepps spinner...
I've caught a few chub on lures.
@@jamesalexander5588 they come in so easily after about 20 seconds of fight.... There just wet lettuces after that... Nowt compared to barbel... But still good on a spinner...
I had no idea!
Tip: get a proper Polarized filter so that we can see through the water. Just remember to align it properly before each shoot.
Theres no way ginger fisherman plays that game on the phone. I just aint buying it. #TopFan
No real fishermen does 😆
Its a New game from 2014
Fishing Planet or if you sell your soul and wallet Russian Fishing 4.
Definitely not. 😂 it's just a sponsor
Your bloody mental mate. I'm not surprised that it worked though. I once caught a decent pike that choked up the very dead body of a fully grown rat. Yuk!
Gross, please don't tell me you ate the rat?

There must be easier baits to handle lol
Imagine rigging, let alone casting, a live wild field mouse 😂
Baby ducklings with rubber bands. Big Muskies.
@@markcrumegolden retriever for crocodiles 🚬🤨
Poor mouse must have terrified after watching u cast out his family for the Chubb and pike 🤣🤣🤣 great video as always 👍

Use matt Hancock as bait
Khan would be great
😂
No.... No way.... Chris could never be so cruel to a fish to expose it to Matt Wankcock! 😂
Nah khans toxicity would kill all the fish in the river within 200yds. @@tyronealaka6537
Noooo you can’t use corrupt golden retrievers as bait

I've seen that happen on the grand union in Leicester
I've seen pike taking adult coots, quite amusing actually last time he's diving on my bait 😂
I've seen rats taken, ducklings taken, and even smaller pike. A 20lb pike is an eating machine with a mouth you can fit your arm in ( don't lol )
We used to use small dace for chub back in the 1970s we used to catch a lot between the 4 to 5 pound mark . Nice job great vid 👍
Cracking upload. Despite what bait you were using, it was a nice moment in helping the little chap out, he dont know how lucky he was!. Congrats on new arrival and looking forward to new uploads.

Never pick up wild mice mate. You can get bitten and get serious infections. Friend nearly lost his thumb recently. 4 weeks off with sepcis too
That's what I wanted to mention. Anything from rabies to hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome. Never touch mice and never touch their poopies, use face mask when cleaning out dusty places where mice could be.
Can’t get my head around how quickly your channel has blown up.
Also the sheer amount of views in 24 hours.
143k is no joke, well done mr maroon🎣🎣
Pike and musky actually crossbreed in my state of Pennsylvania and they get huge
I have been hunting pike, in the UK, for 60 years. So, this experiment with mice and rats is very interesting. What next, a realistic looking duckling? That would prove out that theory. Peace and goodwill
Man never in all my life had I ever thought of using them as bait! Can’t wait until next season now. Great video
geeez... the fishing game pitch... what a crazy world we live in...
G'day Chris, nice little session awesome Chub and pike. All the best form down under 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
First I will say CONGRATULATIONS on the new baby.
I was impressed the way you managed to make those mice look as though they were swimming naturally.

I'm shocked he hasn't tried using the baby as bait....
Chris, congratulations on your new arrival. Great video once again. Looking for pike fishing advice - what is you long Reach river bank landing net ? Thank you and keep up the good work 😊 ❤ 👍
What baitcaster rod and reel you using mate
Looks like Abu Garcia spike x
First time saw this channel… like it 😁
Best greetings from the Harz/Germany
You're using trout anglers as bait?
Awesome comment mate made me giggle so much
I was about to screenshot this and send it to you 😂
seems about right
Fly flippers......it's fly flippers
Si lo hice .... Mi cabello resultó ser buen cebo
Love seeing you help the mouse to compensatie for his fallen brothers
Yes! The rat videos are back. It’s what got me interested way back when
Great video! Fish On!👍🎣
11:42 that decked area over the other bank looks excellent lucky homeowner
Just an idea 💡
As you used rats as bait
/ politicians/ how about using chicks , they also can be purchased from a reptile shop and would fit in with the natural foods 😉
Congratulations to you and your Mrs on your new arrival.
You did good young man🎣😃😊
I don't go fishing but loved watching this episode
"I swear down guys, I thought I was gonna end up with in the bag with the others, but somehow I managed to give the great gingey the slip" - that mouse when he was down at the rodent pub later that evening
If you’ve got a fly rod, you may be able to find some mice/rat flies near you.
Congrats on the little one! 🎉
Looked alive the way it wiggled on the first shot. That opens up a whole world of hurt for someone! 😄
Nice! Success with the swimming rats. Fishing Clash is a good one 2
Would love to see you use large tadpoles or live frog bait on the next video. Also frozen seafood baits from Asian grocers could be interesting.
Try it for trout?
I've been a keen angler for decades but didn't know Chub fed on rats & mice, obviously knew Pike would take them but really surprised to learn Chub feed on them as well.
Something different that works 👍well done Chris
I can tell your a good man because you helped that little mouse absolutely brilliant 👍
I hope you kept the pike for dinner!😊❤
few fish lost there due to being an eager beaver on the striking . but still very enjoyable viewing :)
definitely one of my favourite or even favourite youtuber for fishing
Connect another hook with wire and hook the rear of the mouse too, never miss, you can also use elastic to secure it all for the best presentation.
Chris . . . still killin’ it 👍
More great content! Love this channel!
Class as always👌👊
Great session, the missed hook ups can be expected with only a front mounted treble, and perhaps like you said Chris, leaving a fish to turn might have resulted in a few more.

Very funny to aim for the hole ^^

I watched with the sound down, when you saved that mouse/rat I thought you were catching it for bait ! Thought “brutal” but fair play nice rescue 🤣
We play "rat in a hole"in Ontario, sort of. We anchor, cast our jig up on a log, sit quiet for 3 or 5 minutes, then gently pull your jig into the water and work it back.
I find baby ducks the most productive bait
Maybe circle hooks wood be good ?

Only a theory
Nice video 🎉
Back with a bang... Bonkers haha!
Hi mate watched many of your videos I wish I had a clear canal we had 40 boats go past on the north Oxford but had a 5.5lb zander😊
what type of rod and line did you have for this type of fishing?
When i was a kid i used to fish that bit of river especially to the right of the train bridge nearest to town . Used to chuck casters down and fished on the surface for the chub . Never considered rats but have fished with bees on the canal !
I have always liked surface lure fishing for pike, good video again thanks , cheers for now. Think ill have a go at making a mouse/ rat lure !
Next installment i caught a pike using A Old mouse from my computer 😂😂😂😂😮
Hope the fish in the shed pond are doing good
Found this really interesting I loved that chub you caught 👍 I had a rat lure but my gear got robbed
Keep up the good work Chris I love your vids❤

Ok
Another awesome Video deffo get back to the Canal & River for round 2 maybe a multi species challenge Pike,Perch,Chub & Trout If you have any in the rivers near you
Cheers from Kentucky!
Great idea, soak the bait in WD40 over night the fish looooove it. Happy fishing mate 👍🏻
I REMEMBER UR FIRST VIDEO ABOUT RATS FOR DEADIES LOVED IT
I tried fishing with a rat as bait but the landlord wouldnt fit on my hook
That's a beautiful area. When i lived in harrogate, yorkshire there was a couple nice spots within 5-10 mins from my house. I miss home.
Woooohoho Naturally Amazing 🤩👌💪💪
Greetings From Poland ✋👊
Try the rats as dead bait !!!! So fish it with a bobbin or deadbait system in the bottom
was thinking with all the missed hook sets maybe using trailer hook towards the tail as well would possibly help with more hook sets.
Definitely going to try our snake's leftover tiny mice for this.
I was so expecting you to switch to live bait after the pursuit on the barge…
Very nice video to watch. 😊
What would you recommend for someone who would like to start out lure fishing for Pike, Perch and Zander Rod setup.
I use reef runners for walleye, catch muskee often with them.. I use the deep divers and troll
I’m trying to do pike fishing for the first time this winter do u have any baitcaster rod and reel recommendations or any lures
Cracking video mate
Nice Pike bro !!
Can you post a barbel fishing video at the woodland stream would be a great video to watch
Do you know of any good spots in Leeds for pike ?
Try rigging it with a trail hook towards the back of the rat it will increase your hookups
Good session. GoPro's are great like that lol
I wonder if there is such a thing as a polaroid lens for cameras to have the same effect as shades, so we could see when theres a pike coming when its sunny... would be so cool to see...
Brilliant, you never stop amazing me with your ideas
Now I know what to do with the mice I catch during the colder months. Could be fun summer fishing next year!
I¨ll probably rig the mice with two sets of hooks with a wire stinger tackle, one hook at the head and one further back on the body.
I wish we had chub in Northern Ireland, seems like a fun fish to catch.
@The_ginger_fisherman
can I ask what lour rod you use in this video please?
Was using my friends boat that was in storage over the winter. While fishing I saw a mouse come out of the stern. I flicked it overboard with my pole. Seconds later I heard a splash and mouse was gone. The whole family came out and one by one they didn’t last 20 seconds in the water 😂
are locks good to fish around?
I'm Canadian, so I've never seen a chub in my life. Looks like a carp to me.
I would love to see if you could catch a large brown trout on a dead mouse!
the best fisherman in the uk!!
