The small brass screws with the slot in the butterfly valve do not open themselves. You need to pry them open once the screw is inserted. This stops them coming out and being eaten by your engine.
Thank you for sharing this. I pinned your comment so people would see it first if they are working on their HIF44
Great video.
As an alternative ..Petrol/Gas is great to clean and soak parts overnight...use a small paintbrush to cleN.
Also ...a good idea to set the float level after fitting the needle valve and check the float itself is not punctured.
Pity he did not set the float height as that is very important.
The overflow is not that I'm afraid. It is the highest pipe at the other side.
Hey thanks for this reply i did wonder, where should this overflow pipe be plumbed to? (so that if it overflows it doesn't just go onto the hot manifold?) Cheers
@@sukiperu1 i have a petrol tube connected from the overflow in the carb all over to the front of the clutch case so if it flow (has happened to me) petrol drops behind the number plate. It is the common solution in Minis.
Awesome video thanks so much for your explanations 😎🙌
to fit the throttle spring use a female /female wire crimp, slide it over the spring end, rotate it past where it needs to be,put the quadrant on holding it down and release it gently into place, fit the other piece on and the nut n washer, took me about 30 seconds....
The throttle spindle seals are fitted different way round if normally aspirated
That's what i need!! thanks!!
👍🏼 happy to help!
Hi Cole - good video. Small comment - the screw at 9:15 for fast idle adjustment under choke should be installed the other way around so you can access the head of it... good luck with the installation! :)
You can access the head from the side, it is installed the correct way round.
@@TimWilkinsonPoland Wow! That was a blast from the past!
@@jonstout9236 ha yea sorry, watched these videos a year ago when I was rebuilding my hif44, just getting started today 😅
@@TimWilkinsonPoland Cool - I have re-conned a few - did you get the proper SU kit?
@@jonstout9236 yea got the proper rebuild kit from the sucarb website.
Excellent video. Very helpful
Hi Cole.i have a 1275 Wolseley with a HIF44 carb.,all my linkages sit on the other side of the carb.Does that matter?and what are the other 2 pipes for?
Oh no, rebuilt the hif 44 on my difficult to work on ERA turbo, didn’t pry open the screws🤦🏻♂️
DID NOT SHOW REPLACING THE FUEL JET NEEDLE. CAN BE TRICKY WHEN THE NEEDLE SIDE RETAINING SCREW IS REMOVERED AND THE NEEDLE DOES NOT RELEASE.
Quick question, there is a "rubber ring" on the one part of the choke assembly, does that get replaced or not
around 11:30 be sure to have your hand on the mute button. The difference between the burst of music and the mic level is quite a bit.
yeah,made me jump
can you tell us how to set it up mine needs a good set up
I have another video about tuning the HIF44 carb already:

@@classicminidiy fantastic thank you for all the help you give us keep it up stay safe
Really great job, very detailed!! I've got a HS4 on my mini - any chance of doing a rebuild on one of those?
Thanks! I do have plans to do an HS4 in the future. However in the meantime, I have done detailed videos on the HS2 during my bad wolf build and the HS2 is almost identical to the HS4. 👍🏼
@@classicminidiy Great, I'll have a look, thanks!!
What about the O-Ring under Dashpot?
There is no o-ring under the dashpot on the HIF44. The only o-ring lives at the bottom float chamber. www.minisport.com/selector-carb-hif38-hif44
@@classicminidiy - I Have a Landrover Defender with 2 x HIF44 Carbs and they definitely have an O ring under dash pots.
@@classicminidiy - I am not sure if we are talking about the same part - I am talking about the O-Ring which goes under te Suction Chamber - Part 11 on exploded view in workshop manual.
