      I might go back and polish it some more. I wanted to get it cleaned up and was avoiding going to the store for Brasso. Haha

    If you ever have A LOT of spare time, a SPICA injector pump rebuild might be a suitable challenge

    Hi Cole.im in south africa.my hif44 replacement carb is slightly diff to yours:the controls are on the opposite side to yours.is this a problem?

      Hey they made the HIF44 carb for quite a few different cars including the Mini, some volvos, and more. Some had right hand throttle cables and others had left hand cables. It wont change the operation of the carb though. :-)

    hi the 44 is basically the same as the 38?

      Operationally yes that's right. The throat size is different though. In the HIF38 it's 1.5inches, on the HIF44 it's 1.75inches.

    Young man, there is a distinct lack of greasing of shafts or lubrication indeed of ANY sort upon re-assembly ...... why? Also, think this old carb deserved a modicum more clening, polishing and fettling!

      Hey, carburetors in general are a dry assembly part. The brass used for the throttle linkage, choke, and other internals was chosen on purpose to provide appropriate amount of pivot and wear protection without grease. The only oil used in the HIF and in general SU carbs is the oil put in the dashpot. Which for this video, was left out as this is being sold and has to be mailed empty. I might go back and polish the dashpot a but more. I think it could definitely shine quite a lot better.
