Have you ever made soymilk using the presoak method. Blend 10 seconds in the vitamix and then use the instant pot for 7 minutes on high pressure then let natural release and strain or nut bag? I have a NUTR but sometimes want to make a larger batch and heard of this method.

That will work as you stated it, though I might cook the soybeans a little longer, 10 minutes.
There are 2 methods, cook beans first, then blend or blend then cook - strain after for both.

Hands down, best frothing I've ever gotten is from cashew milk.
I have desperately wanted the nutri-milk for several years but i can't justify the price or the footprint. Too many appliances already. LOL
So instead i got the arcmira and i love it. And i just ordered their larger model and love that one too. I really wanted to be able to make more than 2 cups at a time.

@@KathyHesterVeganRecipes I don't know when it came out but I don't think it was too long ago.
I actually stumbled upon it, accidentally, just a few weeks ago. And, last week, it didn't even come up when I searched. I had to narrow my search to 35 ounce arcmira and it still wasn't the first listing. So they don't make it easy to find it. LOL
But it is nice looking. The carafe section is glass with a nonstick bottom. It is white with a rose gold handle. The best part is that it doesn't take up any more space, other than height, than the 20 ounce model.
Also: the minimum amount is lower than in the 20 ounce model. You can make as little as 10 ounces.
And there is a rubber flap that closes over the plug imput when you remove the cord. This protects it from getting water in it. I really appreciate that feature.

@@KathyHesterVeganRecipes Hi Kathy. I read your post but it didn't specify what the lids are made of. I'm having such a hard time finding a nut milk maker that doesn't have any plastic touching the nuts or milk-- except for Almond Cow (expensive), MioMat (not cheap), Milk Depot (only 30 day warranty.) All the smaller ones seem to have plastic on the lid. And it's so hard to find pictures of the lid. Does the Nutr use glass and silicone? Or is it glass and plastic? I guess if I get one that doesn't heat, then it's ok. But any of them that heat I want to avoid plastic. What would be your recommendation for that since you had these in your kitchen and you could physically see what's inside the lid not just the body?

They have an even newer, larger model (35 ounces vs 20 ounce, though neither actually yield those stated amounts). It has 10 blades.
Same size counter footprint but makes 1.86x the amount of the smaller one. And it is pretty. I'm so excited about having the larger one.

      I would recommend the Arcmira

    • @vegangelist
      @vegangelist 5 місяців тому

I second the arcmira. But it only makes 2 cups at a time if you get their original models.
But they have a newer "35 ounce" model that yields about 3.5 cups. Footprint on the counter is VERY minimal (maybe even slightly smaller than that of the smaller model).
Mine just came today and I'm so excited because I've loved my arcmira but often I want more than 2 cups. And with the larger model your minimum amount is actually less than the minimum on the smaller models.
And currently 79 dollars on Amazon.

I have not used it or the Chefwave yet.

    • @vegangelist
      @vegangelist 5 місяців тому

@@KathyHesterVeganRecipes I got the chefwave from my hubby, recently. I did a string of testing the day it arrived, comparing it to my arcmira.
Chefwave went back to Amazon the next day!
The chefwave functions are wonderful! I love it, in theory! The automatic self cleaning is AMAZING! That's the best thing about it. And it dumps the milk into a stand alone glass carafe.
But that's where the excitement ends.
Here are the problems that I found:
      1. It can make a 10 ounce or 20 ounce batch. Yet the footprint on the counter is nearly triple that of the arcmira. Not to mention the price is also triple the arcmira! For that footprint and price, I want it to be able to make a large variety of batch sizes, at LEAST up to a quart, if not more!
      2. It has a heat/steam function but there is no way to turn it off. So any nut milk you make, as well as oat milk, is heated. That's fine for soy or rice milk but I'm not looking to cook my cashew milk. For the price, I should have the option to have a no heat cycle.
      3. I think the steam function is supposed to be the "feature" of this machine. Presumably, you won't have to soak your nuts as a result.
Also: theoretically, you can make nut milk with fewer nuts, as a result. But that theory fell flat.
There was ultimately no benefit to the steam function since it didn't improve the taste. And even double the quantity of nuts called for in the recipe booklet yielded a watery nut milk.
My husband consumes dairy and is generally skeptical about non dairy milks, although he does enjoy some (including some homemade ones - I'm stretching him). And almost exclusively (except on a very rare occasion) non dairy milks are what we have in our house. So I had him do the blind taste testing. I tasted them too but I wanted a skeptic's take.
For my testing, I used the same amount of water and dry material. All but the cashew milk was too watery for what I would normally make. The quantity I used was a bit of a compromise between the recipe booklets for the two machines. In all cases, the amount of dry material used was nearly double what was called for in the chef wave recipe but some to significantly less than what the arcmira recipe called for (their recipes line up better with the ratios I've used for years when making in a blender). Yet, despite this, in all four rounds my husband chose the arcmira made milk as the winner. And I agreed. The arcmira, using the same amounts, made a creamier, better tasting milk.
I made cashew milk, almond coconut milk, soy milk and oat milk (both used a heated cycle for a fair comparison). For the cashew and the almond/cashew milks, I ran two cycles in the arcmira, to more closely replicate the blend time of the chef wave.
All that space and cost and where it really matters it couldn't stand up to the arcmira.
The chef wave looks sleek, the self cleaning cycle starts automatically and the water empties into a separate bin. Even though the price made me cringe, all of those things made me WANT to love it (though I was also afraid of loving it and wanting to keep a 250 dollar machine, lol) but the negatives made it impossible.
For the price point and footprint, it shouldn't have such glaring flaws (not the least of which is making an inferior product). The operation of the chef wave is wonderful and enviable. But that's where it ends. At that price point and footprint, I should be able to make larger quantities; I should be able to turn off the heat function. And, more than anything, it should make spectacular nut milk.
Honestly, if I had played with the quantities, I could have gotten a good tasting nut milk from the chef wave but the deal breakers for me were not being able to make raw nut milk and the small quantity in a pricey machine that takes up a lot more counter space. Nope. I tried. I really did. Saying goodbye to that automatic cleaning cycle was a teensy bit painful even still. LOL
