Retired Librarian. We would put colorful saying on the "book trucks" that we used to move the return books from department to department. My favorite one was "So many books, so little time". A book worm working in a Library is like a Diabetic working in a candy shop. Too dangerous.😊
Hello Jen! I have a degree in English literature too. And just like you, I love reading, walking everyday and travelling to other parts of the world. I visited Victoria in 2012. We may be kindred spirits....😊 Great video again!!! Love from Lia, The Netherlands
My husband and I used to buy up whole collections of books from garage sales for a steep discount, read what we wanted and sold the rest. My house is full of books! 🙂 I read a lot of books that I probably wouldn't have spent full price on that turned out to be really good.
Daphne DuMaurier was my favorite author over 40 years ago when I was 17. I should read some of her books again. I know i haven't read them all--like that one you got.
Thank you Jen. Great book haul. Your library and your office bookshelves look so interesting. The West Vancouver library used to have two book sales a year. Can hardly wait for the next one. A used bookstore, well any bookstore really, is a favourite plus to be!
I’ve also wondered about your books. I am a bookkeeper and a “book keeper”! I also have a big tbr pile😉really enjoyed this vlog and more book blogs 📚📚🇿🇦🇨🇦
Jen, thank you for showing us those outside views and your family. How beautiful that you all enjoy that. ❤ greetings from South Florida. My daughter and I enjoy your videos!
Thanks for sharing your book-quest weekend! My Saturday was spent working at the Master Gardener's Plant Sale to support plant-quest day for avid gardeners. It's out largest fund-raiser of the year! Our admission line was similar to the book sale line in this video. Happy reading!
I enjoyed this vicarious outing! I love to read and also have stacks of books around. No book sales here, but we do have 2 good thrift stores; hardbacks are one dollar and paperbacks fifty cents!
Wow do I miss Victoria. I was back last year for a visit for the first time since 1994 when I lived there for 3 years. Beautiful city and surroundings on the island
Hello from a sister reader! I recently volunteered at our library's used book sale and walked around for 3 hours straightening (shopping) and helping customers. Love your videos and your journey. Thanks for sharing! From Minnesota
English major here too! Love books and book sales, which are the best! Love seeing Victoria/Vancouver Island. Had a very dear friend from Kitsilano and she has family in Victoria. So lovely there. My friend has passed but your videos feel like home even though I'm from the east coast of the U.S.
Reading is THE BEST! I love books so much… I tend to buy used books for the most part; wherever I go I check out the used bookshops and often have to send my many purchases back by post to Quebec. 🙄😁 That sale looks like so much fun.
LOVE this!!! My dining room is my library and I also have a wall of shelving in my bedroom and the guest bedroom. I recently purged ~200 books. It was hard parting with them as my books are like old friends.
I used to read and collect books, but after several moves from one region of the country to another and the realization that I rarely reread books, I donated the majority of my collection. I still read, but as I have aged (I am 72) I stick to digital or audiobooks on my iPad.
@@dorothyyoung8231 what I like most is no matter how many pages the books have, they never weigh more than my tablet. If the print is small, I can change the font size without having to wait on a large print version or popping on reading glasses.

Great outing to have with three generations of family. I got my love of reading from my parents and helped pass it down to my niece. I am buying books for the great-nieces now. But I don't own any books. I used to go to the public library. Now i don't even do that. I get my books from the public library online and read them on my phone.
Your site makes me happy…so enjoyed seeing your family…I am 78 and at one time I loved to read, not so much now, but if I had been there would have headed to the autobiography section…I love real stories…
What a huge book sale! My first look at Victoria sites … love it as I’m visiting there this fall. Oh, you’re a reader! I swear we’re kindred spirits. I’m a retired librarian. My little house has way too many books but it’s so hard to resist for my TBR piles!
Your recent haul would be what I would buy at a sale too. What a great way to spend a day.....family time and time to page through a good book or two or five. I am a reader, but not a collector of books....or perhaps I should clarify...not a collector of fiction books. A beautiful book can draw me, but I buy reference books as keepers and even those are rare purchases these days. I am an advocate for libraries. That's how my family could afford to be prolific readers and I have fond early memories of weekly library visits with my Dad.
I have a library in my upstairs sitting room and lots of book shelves in several rooms of my house. I enjoy Liane Moriarty books and just finished an autobiography on Agatha Christie. What a fascinating life she led! Her autobiography was especially good!
Can't beat a used book sale!!! The Rotary puts on 2 or 3 in White Rock (at our curling rink) every year - just had the Spring one a few weeks ago and stocked up. :)
Great video! My husband and I are both readers. I love Margaret George’s books and also noticed several Harlan Coben titles in the pile. In the 1990s , I worked with a lady from Victoria in Souuthern California. I was wondering what goodies were on your bookshelf, so glad to see this video.
I have a thing for collecting children’s books! Being a grade school teacher..it’s become a bit obsessive! My favorite bit in this video was seeing a little boy walking in with a green backpack and a reusable bag…ready to shop! Young readers make me HAPPY! ❤
Ohmygoodness!!! Such a long line! Our county library is having a book sale this week. They have two big ones a year, and have now started random genre specific ones, apparently. The one this week is adult fiction. Hardbacks are $1 and paperbacks are .50. And on the last day, you can bring a bag and fill it for a dollar. As many bags for a dollar each, as you want. I’m hoping to go tomorrow and again on the last day. My daughter-in-law and I have a Little Free Library and so are always looking for books to keep it filled. We are both avid readers, as well.
Lovely! There's a volunteer origination where I live that collects and sells books to support our county libraries. Last week I donated some books, and the librarian told me that the last big sale event raised over $100K. I used to worry that ebooks would kill paper books, but thankfully that isn't the case. You live in a beautiful area. I'm in the US, and haven't been west of Ontario. BC is definitely on my bucket list of places to visit.

The first time I watched one of your videos, I thought, “boy, I sure would like to invite her to our book club”. 😀 Thanks for taking us along on your trip! What fun.
That was an interesting video. I have never been to a book sale. I could barely believe the line of people! I couldn’t have stood in line like that due to leg and foot problems but I would like to have been there. I love to read. And those books you showed are the type I like. Thanks Jenn.
I love to read. I attended a very similar used book sale in Winnipeg where I live. Aren’t they just awesome. I saw that you bought from many genres. One of the books I found & bought was a 2022 release for $4 that sold for 45 new. Palace Papers. You looked so happy around your family. Little Skye was hilarious. Thanks for sharing your day. Happy reading
Ooooh, what fun. I just finished reading Remarkably Bright Creatures, which I really liked, and just started The Red Queen by Gregory. Have never read any by her before. Enjoy!
I miss reading so much. I used to read all the time. I have 10 books in my to be read pile. I'm on Seroquel and one of my side effects is not having a long attention span. I've truly tried reading on it, and it's not happening. *sad face. Lovely video, thank you🎉
Fellow bibliophile here. I haven’t heard of that book by Daphne DuMaurier (I presume). I see you like historical/novels. Great taste😉 I used to read them but now my taste is more eclectic; non-fiction, psychology, autobiography, biography and some science, with the occasional history thrown in for good measure. I have so many books ahead of me to read that I’m not sure I will get through them all before I fly away 🤣😂🤣 My favourite spot when I visited Victoria many years ago was Russell’s Books ❣️(Btw, we had the same career aspirations too!)
Books are definitely my weakness... I have so many varied interests... Knowing me, I would have spent $104 on books for myself alone. Looks like a good time was had by all. 😊
Jen, if you haven’t already seen it, the TV adaptation of Wolf Hall is very good. Mark Rylance’s performance is about the best I’ve ever seen. And as someone raised Roman Catholic, the portrayal of Thomas More is eye-opening!
What i would give to have a sale like that here in New Jersey USA (neighbors NYC right across the bridge). Im a reader myself and i have a home library with both reading books and coloring books. I can spend hours and days reading and/or coloring. Really enjoyed this video. It wouldn’t surprise me if this video blew up in views from all the book lovers out there. Looking forward to your next video 😊❤
I just discovered your channel a couple of days ago. I'm alone for the first time in my life, at nearly 50. Also struggling with getting my miniscule channel off the ground. Thanks for the inspiration..

Have you ever heard the quote that goes something like - if you don’t read, you live only one life. Readers live a thousand lives.
I love this. Thank you for sharing the quote
Haven’t heard that quote but how true!
I agree and same for travel.
I saw a terrific bumper sticker on a car in SF this week: "wouldn't you rather be behind a book?" lol. Sure would!
