VW 09G Transmission Valve Body Repair/Modification Part 1

This is a video for the O9G 6 speed transmission that comes in the VW/Audi line-up of cars. There is an issue with these transmissions that give harsh, abnormal, and slipping shifts in them. I use a Trans-Go kit that corrects this. It is a valve body repair/modification kit. It has you cut open the solenoids and open up the bore for the armature then you take the valve body apart and drill out some passage holes to allow fluid to flow more freely.

Interesting video. I may try this one. I’ve been having issues where the transmission will get to around 4k rpm in fourth gear, then shoot up and over rev. If I don’t let off accelerator, it’ll go in limp mode. But when I take it easy it always shifts right.
That said, I’ve heard of so many different fixes for these and one HUGE one that I’ve fixed is the “overheating” transmission issue. For this I simply removed the inline thermostat coming from the transmission oil cooler. When I removed the thermostat it was stuck shut. With it removed the transmission stays nice and cool. Tbh, I believe this is the root problem to all the issues in this model transmission. If you can catch it soon enough, you won’t have all these other issues.

I have used this kit several times and it works great. It may not be the easiest kit to install with the amount of work you have to do but I think it is worth. I would advise people who do not even have an issue to use it just for the fact that I think they would shift better.

Did this kit on a 2003 beetle 1.8T four years ago with a new filter and idemitsu synthetic oil and its never shifted better - like new!

I'll be honest, if I ever owned one I would put this kit on it even if there was no issues. They seem to make the car shift better and crisper. I put one on about 7 years ago on a beetle and the owners still get me to service it and it runs like a champ. They owned it new and said it shifts better than it did new.
