- On 26th June 2016, a 1966 Action Man (GI Joe) named 'Major Bob Tom' plans a trip into near space from Coalville - the town of his 'birth' in the UK - to celebrate his 50th birthday.
The documentary charts the story behind the daring mission's conception, the reaching out to backers to fund a near space mission, the iconic mission and the legacy. The world's greatest Action Figure is still an inspiration 50+ years on.

I never had the astronaut outfit and capsule in my collection back in the 1960s but one of my friends did and I thought it was fantastic.

Very cool, with all of the publicity before and after the event, i cant believe i hadn't heard of this sooner! Somebody has probably given him a loving home who isn't even aware of the journey the little guy has been on! Haven't got an astronaut in my collection, but thats going to change very soon!

My older brother had these. I used to look at them with "awe". These and "big Jim", I later had gotten a scuba diver "big jim". I really liked that figurine very briefly. I believe it had gotten stolen or so I thought, I had later learned that a man from a House renovations crew had discovered it and had taken it for his kids.

I had a 1973 Action man green Beret with material beret had it for years. Wish I still had that toy. He'd be in the cabinet now. I could kick myself giving it away along with chieftain tank, cannon and boat. If I knew then what I knew now I would have started collecting these action figures along with uniforms and accessories in 1980 with my wages

But did the Major appear? And the capsule? Was the collision with a satellite or a UFO? Excellent preparation and all assembly, but I would like to know what happened to the astronaut and the capsule. At your command.
Early years of last year I picked up an 1982 Action man talking commander with eagle eye. Week ago called into a vintage toy shop. Thought I'd pick up one came back with 2. And saved money. A 1973 Action man Field commander and field radio boxed. And a 1992 G.I. Joe. US army soldier unboxed both in perfect condition. G.I. Joe missing a few items backpack pistol knife and case.
I nearly cried...the little guy's heroism is bound only by our imagination. Perhaps he needs a trip to the Titanic to celebrate his aquatic heritage.

He is still out there in the open somewhere. Land Owners did not allow permission to search their arable fields at the time despite lots of publicity.

Would not have helped in the way it fractured, but it was an oversight on the day. However the footage of Major Tom was clear as a result.
